I was in the market for a smart thermostat and really my only two options were between the Ecobee and the Nest. However, When comparing side the side, the Ecobee 4 has SOO much more to offer and its actually $1 cheaper than buying a Nest!! The final choice was a no brainer. When ever I have visitors they are instantly intrigued by my talking thermostat. I've been using Alexa on a daily bases to play music, answer random questions, and control a few of my home smart devices. The fact that my thermostat also saves me money on a monthly bases is just an added bonus. In my opinion, the only reason anyone would ever consider getting the Nest over the Ecobee is if they are seeking a certain aesthetic to go along with their home. But I'd argue that the Ecobee 4 has a nicer and more modern look to it.

I bought one of these thermostats at the recommendation of a friend for my brand new home, and not only did I like it so much, I went back and bound a second one for the other zone in my house. What is there to say about this thermostat that isn't covered in countless reviews? It's super smart in that you can set it to slowly reach your desired temperature at the desired time versus dumber programmable thermostats. The room sensors let you aggregate the temperature in multiple rooms in a zone, as well as act as motion detectors to tell the thermostat when someone is home and to auto-set "home" mode. You can combine multiple thermostats (above and beyond the room sensors) to provide complete control over your house from your app. The web interface provides access to historical charts and logs that were vital to me to prove to my new home builder air flow wasn't working right. So in a sense these have alread paid for themselves. The only negative thing I will say about the Ecobee 4 is the Alexa integration is limited compared to a full blown Alexa device, and sometimes it's a little frustrating not knowing what command/feature will work and what won't. That being said it's a thermostat... and being able to talk to it at all is pretty amazing. The number one use in our bedroom is asking Alexa what the weather will be each day so we can dress accordingly. So to recap I have 2 Ecobee 4 thermostats paired together, 3 room sensors tied to one and 1 room sensor tied to the other. That is true home HVAC control IMHO.

My ecobee4, One of the best purchases I have ever made. I would recommend it to a family member or friend hundred percent yet I just bought two for Christmas. Now for Christmas and I play my iHeartRadio Christmas station all day long and it may my house more festive. The only downside of it is that it does not support Spotify yet.

I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of installation from a non wifi thermostat to this one. I had to deal with the HVAC wiring, which is older, but it took about 5 minutes and I'm not an electrician by any means. It synced with my Echo Dot 3 and now I can play music from my thermostat or ask Alexa questions from there as well. It was easy to setup after install.

I love my ecobee4 WiFi enabled thermostat. It was easy to install and program, and best of all it works with my Alexa. Besides looking sharp, it’s easy now to quickly make adjustments either with Alexa’s assistance or the ecobee app at any time. With Alexa built in, I now also have another speaker to stream music from.

You have the option to use your phone or tablet to program and change settings. It’s also works as an extra speaker in the house, you can play music ask Alexa questions. It also advises you if there’s a problem with your AC unit, if the unit needs service.

I purchased 2 of these as my home had 2 units. Best purchase ever. Each Ecobee 4 comes with a sensor you can place anywhere which tracks motion & temperature. It takes an average temperature at the thermostat and remote sensor and learned what my comfort settings were. Bonus, it has built in Alexa smarts and app is easy to use away from or in the house. It trounces Nest Thermostat gen 3.

I’m glad I didn’t have to install this, although the guy who did said it was clear and concise and if he needed them there was install videos and quality instruction. The product is wonderful to use, great design and I’m gonna go back and get more sensors, they are wonderful at averaging temperatures in the house to get a more responsive system

I love it, I get to control everything thru the app from anywhere, easy to set up if you follow the instructions.

I recently installed the ecobee4 and I cant believe how great it is. If your thinking about buying it , then buy it .

We purchased this in JULY of 2018, it is AUG 2020 and this thing is completely toast. I've been having issues with the heating and cooling in my home for around 6 months. The "remote sensor" has been reading off for quite sometime and I unpaired it months ago. After vast troubleshooting and other issues we replaced the units in our home. Once we did this, there was no real change in how the unit ran. Come to find out, it's this piece of crap causing the issues. I purchased several external humidity and temperature monitors to place in my home due to the thermostat saying low temperature and high humidity. This thing was so far off it's pathetic. It claims to be a "smart" device, but it has a long way to go for that title. I replaced this with another name brand WiFi capable thermostat and my A/C unit instantly worked properly. I will say the Apple Homekit integration is nice and I wish more thermostats had the capability. The app always worked right and the connectivity of the device was good. But if it can't read the temperature properly then it's useless.

The integrated Alexa voice service makes this already great smart thermostat even smarter. Add this to remote temperature and motion sensors, Home Kit enabled, SmartThings enabled and an excellent phone app and you easily have the best thermostat on the market for home automation and comfort. And installation and setup are easier for the DIYer.

If you're like me, you're tired of living in a home that has a thermostat that doesn't care if you're hot in the summer or cold in the winter while you're sleeping. I spend almost half of my time st home in the bedroom, yet there has been no way to control the temperature in it reliably...until now! The ecobee 4 really is a great addition to any home. Being able to totally ignore the main thermostat when controlling my HVAC, and instead using a remote sensor that is measuring the temperature that I actually care about...the temp in the room I'm in! Set up is relatively easy. I've never changed a thermostat before and I was able to do this in about an hour, including splicing some lines. I did call ecobee customer service twice and got the same analyst, Nick, who provided the best customer service I've ever received, for anything. I emailed him photos as we were on the phone. He coached me through the whole thing. The ONLY reason I am giving 4/5 stars is the voice recognition for Alexa. I essentially have to be standing in front of the thermostat and speak to it in a raised voice to activate her. Other than that, it works seemlessly. Other have noted that deactivating Alexa will give you a red light, but I would recommend just leaving her activated because she isn't going to hear anything anyway! If you're purchasing this because of this feature, I'm not sure it should sway you

Intalled by myself. Not a problem. Well made instruction. I followed step by step in the booklet. Working great. Connected to my smart home system. Change the temp. by smartphone and voice command - Alexa is included.

Bought two of these Ecobee's. One for myself and another for my mom. Install was super easy thanks to their explicit instructions. setup after install was a breeze. so far it's been great to be able to control the temp from anywhere in or out of the house. It was a toss up between this or the Nest and I read that the nest has to cycle the house fan (run it) in order to charge its lithium battery. That wasa no go for me as I seldom run the heat or the AC, and the Electric company is already gouging me for usage. Seems pretty lame to have to run a whole house fan just to charge batteries. The Ecobee give you a power pak adapter that you run between the thermostat and control board and that powers the Ecobee without having to run anything. Two Thumbs Up!

If you live in a newer home, and you have a heating/cooling system that is also newer, this thermostat is an excellent choice. If you live in an older apartment, or older home, you should look at your present thermostat and it’s wiring to make sure this thermostat is compatible, or you are ready and willing to make it work with the heating/coolingsystem in your building. I would suggest that you do some reading online and familiarize yourself with what a “ C wire “ is. If you’re technically adept enough to install this thermostat on your own you should also be able to find a way to make it work for you, it’s not that difficult. I’m sure you’ll be as pleased with the results as I am. P.S. Don’t Forget, there are rebates being offered until December 31, 2017 by the utility companies on these thermostats making it a much more affordable choice!

I’m addicted to smart devices and their integration with Alexa is essential to my setup. When I first started the install, I assumed something was wrong with my wiring so I contacted Ecobee support- they contacted me within minutes asking for pictures and within minutes of submitting them, they responded with step by step instructions to get me up and going. The setup was a breeze and integration with Alexa was just as simple. Set your comfort zones, set your schedule, and you’re done. I have it integrated with SmartThings so that once my presence is no longer detected the thermostat sets itself to a specific temp. If I’m coming home before schedule, my presence sensor alerts ecobee to initiate my home setting earlier than scheduled. Ecobee’ app is great and I love the ease of use. The second room sensor is a great addition as well.

Easy installation. Easy to use. Has built in Alexa which connects to other devices and allows access to information. I can adjust temp from anywhere using my phone.

I have held off for a while from getting a smart thermostat after hearing of people having problems with another popular unit. I had tried another programmable one which was too hard to operate and our simple one was easy to set temp and turn on and off that I didn't want to complicate our lives any more. But a tech savvy friend recommended this model so when it came on a daily deal I decided to try it. It was easy to install, even in our 50+ year old house. I found it easy to program comfort settings which keep the temp comfortable at different times of the day. It can be easily controlled via the app or Alexa. The Alexa can be turned on or off but it has been nice being able to talk to our thermostat so we will probably leave it on. We have found that it has saved us from constantly adjusting our thermostat. Once we set comfortable temps we don't have to touch it all the time like with our old dumb thermostat. Also just got a $50 refund check from So Cal Gas so that was nice. I highly recommend this unit, especially with the built-in Alexa for hands free control.

We are very happy with our ecobee4! It functions just like the Nest but better with more options such as Alexa, sensor for each room, includes two but I purchased 4 more. The sensors really work. We use the follow me feature and every room that is occupied is the temp we set. Pros: It works, it is fun, and saves on energy costs! Another pro is the sensors! I have sensors all over my house and use them to help get the most accurate average temperature reading of my house. I love the fact that they can detect if a room is unoccupied and therefor will focus on making sure the rooms that are occupied are at the desired temperature. The sensors can also be used as a motion detector. Amazing!!! Cons: the Nests app is more responsive and with little to no delay. The Ecobee app is delayed about 30 sec or more. I’m hoping they can fix that with future updates. Overall it's a fantastic product. If you want to upgrade your thermostat from Basic thermostat or even Nest like we did. I highly recommend this.
