Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the extensive gameplay and large map as significant strengths of Fallout 76 Tricentennial Edition, with many praising the opportunities for exploration in the open world and online play. However, a recurring concern revolves around the presence of technical issues, including bugs and occasional crashes affecting server stability. Some players also express disappointment with the game's narrative, finding it lacking in comparison to previous installments. The overall experience appears to be a mixed bag, with substantial playtime balanced against technical shortcomings and narrative weaknesses.

I've been a huge fan of the fallout series for a while now and I really started with Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360. I never completed 4, but will be going back to it soon. Especially now that I've shelved Fallout 76. I follow the two Fallout (Fallout and FO76) subreddits and while I appreciate what Bethesda has done for communication, it has really tarnished my feelings for the developer and in the future, I will be hesitant to purchase another one of their games until we see how it turns out. The lore is great. The exploration is fantastic! Unfortunately, this is about all the game has going for it. It's a huge bug-ridden mess, there are so many issues. Combat is clunky and don't even get me started on V.A.T.S. I play on an LG C7 OLED TV and while there is HDR, there are NO video options for brightness or anything of the nature. My TV is calibrated perfectly, yet this game is so bright - even in dark scenes. It all just looks washed out. The lack of including even the simplest things really drags this game down. The building feature of Fallout 4 was pretty much an "experimentation" leading up to this game. There are just far too many issues and the game feels so lonely without the NPC's and dialog trees to go through, which are all highlights of any grand Bethesda game of this scale. Save yourself the money. Get something else instead. Wait 6, 9 or even 12 months and see if this game shows any improvement over that time span. Hopefully, Bethesda doesn't abandon this game. The ONLY reason I give this game 2 stars is because some parts of it are very enjoyable (the lore and exploration)...WHEN it works. This game does have promise and if handled properly, could be a fantastic addition to the franchise. Maybe they will "rework" this like what happened to Final Fantasy XIV, when they turned it into "A Realm Reborn".

Let it be known that I loved Fallout 4. It was my introduction to the Fallout franchise. While I did go back and play bits of Fallout 1, 2, New Vegas, and 3, I played through Fallout 4 three separate times, eventually getting the platinum, 100% completion trophy on the PS4. Even when the story ended, I loved wandering around the Commonwealth and the DLC zones, finding all the cool little visual vignettes the designers had hidden in each broken down shack and ruined campsite. Each time I'd wander out -- alone -- I'd come back with bits of junk that would help me reinforce my settlement, personalizing my own little corner of post-apocalyptic Massachusetts. And in my survival playthrough, I'd have to think very carefully about just how much food, water, and ammo I had with me. That's what Fallout 76 is like, but in West Virginia, and with this constant feeling that some jerk is going to step out of the woods and end you for your inventory full of junk. It's light on story (yet heavy on lore, if you like reading terminals and listening to holotapes) and all about exploration and survival. Life is about food, water, radiation, ammo, and the deterioration of your weapons and armor. Now, I've been playing since the beta, and that hasn't happened to me, yet (knock on wood scraps). The limited number of players on each server and the humongous open world map make it really easy to not see another human-controlled character for an entire gaming session. When you combine that with the absence of any human NPCs, however, that can make Fallout 76 a very lonely experience. There has been a lot of controversy connected to the launch of this game. It is buggy. I have been disconnected a few times. There are choices that the developers made to make this work as a multiplayer game that futz up the solo Fallout experience I enjoyed in Fallout 4 (e.g., bobbleheads are a single-use perk, almost like a super chem), and others that are just weird (e.g., you can pack your power armor up and carry it around with you). I'm hoping Bethesda will do what Hello Games did with No Man's Sky and spend the next few months carefully addressing the issues their gamers are raising, while at the same time adding new and cool aspects to a 2.0 version of the game. If they do, I would come back and boost my review to 5 stars. If they don't, I could easily imagine this game fading to a 3- or even 2-star experience.

This is a great game so far, with lots to do and a huge map to explore. But the elimination of NPCs and their story lines is kind of a let down for me compared to other fallout games. The strong multiplayer part may be more appreciated by others. But still a good game.

Great graphics and lots of fun playing on a team. It upholds the Fallout style and tasks. Got to see Mothman and he just stood there to let us attack him. Now we periodically see a Vengeful Mothman and he's tough. Didn't give it a 5 star because it's a new online. It still has some server crashes, which is to be expected since it's new. They do uphold their scheduled updates and improvements. They give you a 10 min. warning when they have emergency server shutdowns which doesn't take all day to perform. They listen to player feedback and work to implement some of them.

I feel like there's a great game here somewhere, it just hasn't made it there yet. Fallout 76 looks great and the area is vast to explore, but the lack of NPC and inability to really communicate with the other human players is a serious drag (at launch time). There's a chance that Bethesda could eventually make Fallout 76 like No Man's Sky in that the launch version was underwhelming but patches and updates could make it more fun. As it is, there's just enough to keep me interested, but not enough to make me hurry back to the game.

I'm having a pretty good time running around Appalachia with a few of my friends. While I don't enjoy the crashes or the glitches... I don't feel like it ruins the game completely. Is it perfect? Definitely not... but my free time is going to this so I can experience the world and hang out with (actual) friends across the states. Looking forward to the improvements and to see what the future holds for this game.

The game is huge and very similar to the previous fallout games in good and bad ways. The graphics are awesome and definitely an improvement. The online play is odd to me and I'm not sure how best to utilize it in a game of this style. The glitches to be fixed before the game lives up to expectations.

This game has the potential to be great. If you love the Fallout series, you will enjoy this one too. However, since it’s launch it has been riddled with crashes and glitches. If Bethesda can work out the kinks, there is definitely an awesome addition in the series.

If you like the game controls and play of the Fallout series, then you will like Fallout 76. I bought this for my son as a gift and he loved Fallout 4. This special addition gives you some outfits to make your character standout. Although there is less computer character interaction, the game lets you play with others on line. But don't worry about mobs of people. The map is huge and there is lots to do. Now you can either get help or help out others when you meet. There a lots of new monsters and mutants to take on and lots of new guns and gear to checkout. But, the best part will be the co-op play and how it shapes up.

Some people will actually like this game, I thought multi player wouldn't be a big deal - the other players don't actually bother me much at all. The issue for me was it feels like its geared to leveling up go here go there fast fast. Fallout for me was for the exploration, taking your time to look around. The map is great but I feel like you cant really explore it, enemies spawn all the time - clear an area and they re spawn so quickly. Not being able to pause and when dying having to go get your stuff back are online games I get that, I just don't like it. I have only played for 2 days but have gone back to red dead so take my view with that in mind - 2 days to decide I didn't like the game. I was looking for fallout, the small things you see like vault tec make you smile but overall the game play has changed enough for me not to like it.

Fun game in the series however very laggy and does Not have as many NPC’s to interact with as this is an online game. If the Game bugs and load times gets better I would give this a full 5 star though!

Despite the numerous glitches this game tends to suffer from, there's still something to admire about it as it attempts to flip the script from a single-player to multi-player experience in the Fallout universe. I've throughly enjoyed this outing as it rewards the player for exploration. Sure, being able to play with other people detracts from the isolated feel of the original games, but I still keep coming back to it as Bethesda continues to make gradual improvements. For those who enjoy the Fallout world, I'd highly recommend it.

It's a huge difference from the original Fall Out game. I was so used to playing by myself with the original and now it's online play, I'm not sure how much I like it. I'm sure once I get used to it, it'll be easier and more fun. It seems like nobody wants to join your group and other online players will attack you. I'd think everyone would want to play together, not against each other. The game itself it still a great game, but so far the online play isn't for me.

I watched many reviews that bashed the beta but I did not want to base my opinion on early beta game bashers I wanted to have my own opinion so I bit the bullet and here are my impressions/review. After playing for a few hours of trial and error I bumped into a few players that added me to their group and that's when the game picked up for me. I have a few memorable things happen to me in the game,I was in a abandoned building with another player online and he said he would be back he was grabbing a snack so I decided to roam around outside while he came back but all of the sudden a level 20 scorcher elite came out of nowhere with his goons trying to kill me and I was just like lv 7 at that time and I had to run back into the building my friend was in and hide and you could hear the monster saying "you will have to come out some day" I was like what?? lol so then my friend finally came back on and we ended killing the orcs and that was really fun. I like the perc card feat the leveling in the game etc. I am not too fond of the survival gimmick but its not a deal breaker because at times it makes me feel immersed. ok now the bad: Game lags like crazy and sometimes when you teleport to someone it will teleport you in the middle of zombies! smh.. another thing that is cringe worthy is how sometimes you have to do a mission were dracula in dragon form spawns out of nowhere flying in the sky spitting some green fire.ohh and he is level 50! it becomes such a pain to get to where you need to go. over all the game is fun with some frustrations that I am hoping they will fix and I think that at this rate it is too early to fully bash on the game since its so early and games like the division and battlefront had bumpy rides also so we will have to wait and see.

I am a big time fan of Fallout. Have played all the ones released for consoles. I enjoy the story, the characters, map and gameplay. Fallout 4 was fun, but I didn't really care for the camp building and stuff. This game has a lot of that. I also was excited about playing with friends and having an online community. The game is really buggy and its not as enjoyable. I bought this game on release because i always believe in Bethesda, but this time I got let down. The game even dropped down for Black Friday, just shows how bad it is. I havent played it for 1 week, im focused on red dead get that game instead.

This game has plenty of bugs at the moment I wont' lie. That being said there is plenty about this game that I am having fun with. If you are a HUGE fan of Fallout I would still recommend this game especially seeing the price drops. I'm sure Bethesda will flesh out most of the bugs soon. It's not "unplayable" as the internet would have you believe but it does have many issues. Buy this with it in mind that it's basically a beta as of now or just pass.
