GE microwave with poor design
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Our last GE profile built in microwave lasted 20 years & I absolutely loved it. Of course I ordered the same microwave recently, only in black. I must say I am disappointed in that there is no light on the control panel. It is very difficult to see even in the daytime & also has small print. Sometimes the door does not open properly. The latches are made of plastic!!!! This is very annoying! We ordered the black trim & it is plastic & DOES NOT fit, even though it is the matched model for this microwave! Fortunately I saved the old trim which has to be repainted but fits perfectly on my new microwave. So right now I have a new black microwave that the door sometimes opens quickly & an old bisque colored trim which is made of very substantial metal. I feel very bad for the flaws in the production of the new model. GE can do better than this!!!!

Wish we had more options for built in microwaves

Owned for 5 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good microwave--dislike that every time you have to buy a new built in GE microwave when the old one breaks down, you also have to buy a new trim kit. Dislike the dark interior of this microwave, though I do like the noise silencing options. The button to open the microwave stuck from day one, making it hard to pop the microwave open, but it took so long to get the microwave when we ordered it that I didn't want to bother to return it for a new one that might have the same issue. Hopefully the button will keep working to open the microwave though it is a pain that it doesn't work easily. Also, it is always difficult to figure out which trim kit we need when we buy these.

Sticky latch

It is sleek, very big inside, and looks very nice in my built in space. My only complaint is opening the door. The latch is not easy to use, sticks when you try to open it. Otherwise it is ok.

GE Profile Microwave

Our last Profile exploded and GE gave me $100 towards a new one. So, since it is the only microwave that will fit in that space, I ordered another. As luck would have, I also had to order a new trim kit. I installed it but now had to call GE to come out as it doesn’t open all the time.

Sleek looking but not sure about reliability

I did my online comparisons and looked at reviews. Due to the size opening and change in designs to drawer or drop downs, I didn't feel I had much of a choice. I had to go with the newer GE Profile even though there were many reviews on which the door opener button broke at a year or less. I wrote to GE customer service to ask if the reliability had been improved. Instead, they told me how to properly press the button- firmly and in the middle. I have to say I got it at a great price as an open box item but I can definitely understand there customer concerns. Also, the duration of microwave does not seem accurate at less than 20 seconds.

Door stopped functioning

In researching the problem, this appears to be a common issue with this make and model. For the price, I would have expected this unit to function longer than 2 years.

Great Microwave but too monochromatic.

The door opening button should be a different color so that it is visible in low light conditions. The dark gray interior makes it hard to see inside it even with the interior light on.

Door Broke - Very Disappointed

The purchase was made in July 2019. A few days ago, when I tried to heat up our dinner, the door broke. The button to open the microwave door is completely non responsive. We paid almost $400 for this microwave and the door broke just after six months of use!! GE appliances is one of the biggest appliances manufacturer in the US. It is known for its quality and reliability. However, the microwave we purchased is an inferior product and the quality of this microwave is below standard. As of today. our dinner is still in the microwave and we cannot open the door to get the food out. We are very disappointed with the purchase.

Don't Buy

Repair person came and fixed it. That lasted one month. Was cooking some food and when the timer went off the door latch completely broke and we couldn't open the door to get the food out. Additionally, the control panel went dark. Repair person came out (thankfully got our food out) but now we've been waiting for over 1 month to get parts. GE refuses to replace the unit and says it can be fixed, but the parts to fix it are on back order with no delivery date it sight. Best Buy won't allow a return because it's outside the return window. Bad product.

DOOR IS NOT OPEN AFTER PURCHASE- BRAND NEW

Owned for 2 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this new microwave on August 2021, and after installed, found immediately the door is not able to smooth open, and contacted with GE immediately on 8/12/2021, and GE sent their own authorized repair company on 8/16/2021, with 2 months wait on the parts of the control panel, yesterday 10/14/2021, the technician finally came back and replaced the control panel, and after that, the door is totally not able to open at all. I spent tremendous time of communicate the Premier appliance company ( GE assigned), normally I call 8-10 times a day, 5 days a week, they will return back to me with one message. Spent 1-2 hours on phone with GE customer service every time. Until now, this brand new GE microwave is still not useable and I can't either get it repaired or replaced .SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SHAME ON GE

Hard To Open

You need to push hard on the release button, something several times. Had I known this I wouldn't have ordered this model. The feature are good.

We got GE because it was for over a GE oven and we wanted it to match. It just doesn't have the features our old one had at our previous home. This one the door seems hard to open at times.

I researched microwaves and it took almost 2 months to get this delivery from Best Buy. IT WAS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!! The quality of the new product was below expectations for a GE Profile appliance. The push-button to open the door is rickety and gets stuck easily. I have purchased GE appliances exclusively for the past 25 years but this microwave plus trim kit are the most raggedy products GE that I have encountered. What happened to this company? Deep, deep regrets!

Holding my breath and hoping for the best!

It could easily have been designed to be compatible with the frame of the virtually identical GE microwave that it replaced. As many people have complained, the push button to open the door is very hard to operate which is probably why so many break. The function grid is nearly impossible to read since it has no lighting.

Awful quality

One day, it kept running after taking food out. When I tried to reopen the door, a plastic part inside snapped. Had to unplug it to stop it. Luckily, Best Buy was awesome about returning it. 5 stars for their customer service.

Then, after 5 weeks, while food was finished cooking, the door would not open and the tray kept spinning. Had to pull the plug. The door still won't open and the food is in the microwave along with a plate. returning it to Best Buy and they will break door to get my plate and spoiled food. DO NOT BUY THIS MICROWAVE!
