Posted .When Opal is in need of defrosting, it may start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and may take 10 to 45 minutes. More frequent squeaking usually requires white vinegar cleaning to remove internal mineral scale buildup. It will not last. From squeeling all the time from the beginning of ownership to sensor and even wifi issues this thing has it all. Does make great ice but be sure to keep a good warrenty cause you will be let down. Swapped mine a week ago that just quit working all together and even upgraded to the newest model. Day 1 wifi wouldnt setup (only nice for scheduling). I overlooked that just to get making ice. 1 week later its quite working and has the dreaded "add water" issue. I'm done
