Posted .We appreciate your feedback and encourage you to follow our recommendations for descaling your Opal every 2-3 weeks and sanitizing the unit every week or more often depending on your water quality. Works just as advertised and makes delicious chewable ice. We did not run out for 6 people. More expensive but worth it if you can afford it. I did purchase on sale. There are good smaller ones that may work for you if only 2 to 3 people.

I would like know if this is normal, according to the manual the descaling hooks be about once a month, maybe I got a bad one? It’s a tedious process as it has to sit with vinegar for about 16 hours. It’s very expensive to give this much hassle.

Posted .Keeping the Opal ice maker and side tank accessory clean ensures you have plenty of fresh tasting ice. The Opal ice maker will indicate when it is time to clean the unit using the display ring around the round button on the front. When the display ring is solid yellow, it is ready to be cleaned. Cleaning instructions vary depending on which model you own.Descaling should be performed every 2-3 weeks, depending on the hardness of water used. We would suggest searching on our website "Opal Ice Maker - Cleaning and Descaling" to get more information and step by step instuctions. I can agree that this icemaker is much quieter than Frigidaire I previously purchased. That was a waste of money. The machine was super loud and broke down before a year.
