Great all-in-one HDTV

I have had this TV for about 2 weeks now and so far I am loving it. I use it mainly for TV and Netflix, and it's also great for DVD's, Blu-Ray's and video games. During the Holidays we used Pandora, tuned to the Christmas station, to add some holiday cheer.
What I love most about this TV is that you can use it right away without having to hook anything else up to it. The Wireless was fairly easy to setup and once it was done I was able to add the TV to my Netflix account (it gives you a code that you enter on the Netflix website) with no fuss.
If you have cable but don't want to rent another box than you can hook it right into the TV and get local channels with the built in tuner. I have FIOS and was able to pull local HD channels without a box as a test, but I ended up hooking my cable box to this TV anyway.
The Blu-Ray player works very well, though I recommend going into the menu and disabling BD-Live. If you let BD-Live try to connect it can make the disc take twice as long to load, and most of the content available is trivial at best.
My other Blu-Ray player is a PS3 which is easily the best player out there. With that in mind, the built-in Blu-Ray player does a good job with loading times and so far I have not had any playback errors. Also, if you watch DVD's, they are upscaled to 1080p and look great!
The only component I have hooked up to the TV is a Nintendo Wii. The Wii is not an HD gaming system, but it still looks great on this TV.
Now for my short list of minor things that could be better:
- You have to go to the Blu-Ray input in order to access Netflix and Pandora. If you have a disc in the drive, then you have to wait for the disc to start playing, stop the disc and then enter the 'connected' menu to access Netflix / Pandora. Slightly irksome, but you get used to it.
- The included stand for the TV is more complicated to install than necessary. I think it requires 12 screws, maybe more. My other TV's stand snapped right in.
- If you change the aspect ratio of the screen when switching between types of content, it will stick to that same ratio for everything unless changed back. Ex: I was watching a show in standard definition (SD) that was in letterbox format (bars above and below). I zoomed in so the image would fill the screen. When I went back to an HD channel, the screen was still zoomed. (On my other TV, switching back to HD will cause the screen to automatically adjust back to the correct aspect ratio).
- DVD's don't pick up where you left off if you turn the TV off or go to another input. Blu-Ray's will depend on the disc. Some are programmed to remember where you left off, but most are not.
- The one major downside to having an all-in-one device, for me anyway, is this: Let's say you and your significant other are watching a movie when they get a phone call. You decide to pause the movie and play a quick round of Mario Brothers on the Wii while they're away. If you do that, the movie will stop (since the Blu-Ray player is built in, it automatically shuts down when you go to another input) and since it does not remember where you left off, when you switch back to the movie you will be forced to start it all over again and skip ahead to where you left off.
- Lastly, the advanced menu options for picture, sound etc. are less robust than other sets I've owned/used. Not a big deal to average users, but advanced users should be warned.
As I said, these are minor issues and probably won't bother most people. Overall this is a great set. Picture quality is very good, audio is good, disc playback is very good (some other reviews mention the noisy disc drive, but honestly it's barely noticeable) and for me at least, it was pretty easy to setup.
I would recommend this to anyone that wants a medium sized HDTV. For me it's a great second TV for my smaller living room. My 46 inch TV would be way too big for the room, and this TV makes life easier by having the extras built-in. Great space saver!

There are many things to like about this television. The picture is great, the sound is above average, and the back of the television is well designed to hang on a wall.
I currently have this TV connected to an HDTV setup and the picture is absolutely wonderful, but occasionally I have to watch a channel that is only available on standard definition and it still provides an adequate picture.
There are plenty of adjustments available which allow you to customize the picture to your liking. Insetrting a DVD or Bluray is extremely easy if you mount this TV on the wall due to the location of the built in DVD/bluray player. This TV was ment to be wall mounted. Installing it in an entertainment center is not an option if you plan to access the DVD/bluray player. I also like the multiple HDMI ports and the ethernet port for networking. Nice touches.
Now for the downsides. The DVD/bluray player is very noisy when you first turn on the TV. Also this television is not compatible with my cable company's universal remote, but it is compatible with some of the universal remotes through Best Buy. So I have to use the TV remote to control the ON/OFF function, the TV sound and the DVD/bluray player. I use my cable company's remote to change the channels.
Would I purchase another, YES, I already plan to get one for my exercisie room, because I love having the ability to watch DVD/Blurays but I hate the clutter and wires ofter associated with these devices.

Decent performance - Great Price

Great picture and decent sound. I use it for all of its built in functions plus as a computer monitor for an HP Pavilion Elite.
Tip: If you're using it for your computer and connect with an HDMI cable, disable "Overscan" in the Advanced Video options.
Pluses: Stunning picture, decent sound, compatible with WiFi protected setup (one-button process on compatible routers), USB port for Blu-Ray Live/Storage is on the side (thumb drive), tuner is excellent (mine is plugged in to amplified antenna but previous TV didn't receive all signals and often froze)
Annoyances: Tuner lags several seconds in-between channels, Blu-Ray player sounds very mechanical when loading and has no "straight to menu" function, getting to Netflix and Pandora are not really intuitive and require switching to the Blu-Ray player first, tech support is available but not always able to answer simple questions
Overall, considering the picture quality and the technology confined within a single unit, it's a great buy. WiFi streaming is great, Blu-Ray works just fine, works great as a computer monitor and the tuner (with guide) is easy to use (device set-up begins when you first turn it on so have your antenna connected).

Great idea product

The first thing I noticed when setting this up was that the instructions didn't seem to match the product at all. (To set up the internet you have to have to be at the Blu-ray menu) It hooked up to the hd-cable box fine and delivered quality picture from the Comcast HD channels. Sound was fair, but it has a lot of features to adjust the sound, so maybe playing with it will make it sound better in the room.
First time trying the Blu-ray player it didn't recognize any disks. I put in a brand new disk and even a couple DVD's. It was really loud and I determined to take it back the next day. I tried again the next morning and it still didn't work. After putting in an audio CD it finally recognized a disk. I put in a DVD and it worked. The player started getting quieter, and then it started playing Blu-ray disks. I have no idea why, but if you like this TV and get one that won't play disks keep trying a few disks and it might just start working. It works great now. Maybe it automatically downloaded a firmware update or something while I was playing with it. Or maybe it was just stuck.
A good product that has a lot of features but isn't probably the quality you're going to get when you pay twice this price for a Sony or LG with this many features.

When I shop for electronics or big purchases I do a lot of research, the same goes for when I wanted to buy a new HDTV with 1089p. I found this one on sale for only $500. I was hesitant to purchases this after reading alot of bad reviews that the Blu Ray player made noises and didn't work. But I went to my local best buy and had them test the on-site model. The blu ray player worked great. I was heavily pleased.
I bought it and am very pleased. The picture quality is great and the sound quality is wonderful. I used to have a 19" 720p hdtv and this was such an awesome upgrade. I do not own any blue ray discs, but the players work great with my dvd's. Like other reviews have said the netflix and pandora are accessed through the blu ray player...which is kind of odd, but not a problem.
My biggest love is my Netflix streaming, I only pay $8 a month for unlimited streaming to my tv, which steams really fast over my wireless network. I don't use Pandora much. Just remember, this only has pandora and Netflix, no other apps like Youtube are accessible.
The stand was really suprising, unlike newer tv's with flimsy plastic stands, this tv has a heavy metal stand so your not worried about it wobbling around.
Very satisfied!

great all around tv, definitely best bang for your buck. saved space with side mounted blu ray player!! Picture quality is great for the price, started out using it with RCA component cables and was fine on a 32" and definitely noticed the difference with HD box and HDMI cables!! Blue ray player is a llittle slower than PS3 but about as normal as a midrange stand alone model. Few folks had issue with loud start up for the blue ray but really isnt that serious unless you put your ear next to it and are only looking for that sound. Another lowered the score becuase they didnt know you couldnt get HD without HD signal, just because you have HD tv does not mean your going to get HD tv lol but over all its a great tv and like i said best bang for your buck. Love all the component inputs specially the VGA, easy to hook my mac up and watch missed episodes of CBS, NBC, FOX etc in full HD!!!! And using it as a bigger monitor for either one of our laptops while laying in bed is sweet as well... sound is fine for a bedroom and crazy surround sound isnt one of the selling points anyway for the tv. For what it is, its a great tv and like i said sound is plenty good enough for a bedroom. Very east to setup, ive only used samsung tv's and it took about 10mins to set up and figure everything out. Blue ray and HD look great!!

Beware Faulty Blu-ray Drives!

I bought this TV mainly because of the Blu-ray player combination. It was relatively easy to assemble and the picture quality and Wifi internet connectivity are great. However, the blu-ray player failed to recognize any disc I put into it. We exchanged the TV for a new one and unfortunately realized when we got it home that it had the same problem with the blu-ray player! We returned this unit to the store and before we took another one home we verified that the player worked (and in the process found one more unit at the store with the same problem). So, long story short, good TV but make sure the blu-ray player works before you take it home if you want to save yourself some hassle. I have to say that the Best Buy staff were very helpful and made the process as easy as it could be.

Best All In One TV For Its Price
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This TV is perfect for a small-mid sized room. Its worth the price because it includes a built in internet adapter with WIFI G/N standards. It works best with WIFI N. It also has a blu-ray/DVD player hidden into the side of the unit. It also is a 1080p so you get better picture quality than a 720p. The refresh rate is 60hz and to be honest that's enough for the eyes not to see flickering so I'm not picky about that. That's the standard anyway for most TV's. I love that I don't need to use so many wires and nonsense to plug separate stuff in. Its all built into the TV. The setup was quick and easy. I also like the Netflix application. It has a very good interface with pictures of movie titles and it gives you suggestions based on your interests in movies. You can add to your instant queue via TV. But I don't think you can search movies on the TV. The Pandora is good too. It connected to the wireless in my home in a matter of a minute. It was very quick. You must read the manual to make sure you know what your doing.
The only thing I would say I liked less is that the remote it came with doesn't glow in the dark so you kinda have to guess what your pressing if your watching something in a dark room at night. It also takes an average of 5 seconds to change a channel. I'm not sure if its like that with the cable channels because I haven't hooked up cable to it yet. I'm talking about antenna tuned channels. I seems like its taking a few seconds to tune into a channel when you change it each time. I think that is silly. So if you are trying to quickly switch the channel back to something you saw, you will probably miss the scene because it takes a few seconds to switch. At least analog antenna TV's switched channels in less than a second. Also, some movies in Netflix actually don't have standard TV quality streaming especially, some of the instant stream movies. Don't know why but that's just a Netflix issue not a TV issue. Also, it was defaulted to a picture quality that was literally hurting my eyes. The colors were too sharp and bright. It was easy to adjust in the menu, I applied the warm colors scheme and reduced to super sharp bright colors. Now it's much easier on the eyes to watch stuff.
The sound quality is also very good on here. I would not compare it to a Bose sound system but it is typical for what a TV would have. I would recommend playing around with the sound options in the menu so that you can adjust it. While I was watching a blu-ray movie it was defaulted to make the background music sound very loud and the talking to be very low. It was annoying cause then I'd have to turn it up a lot so that I can hear what they are saying but then all of a sudden it would be blasting music and sound effects way too loud. So yeah...please do manually adjust the sound scheme unless you like to watch movies that way. Also, if you start the TV in blu-ray mode you will hear the blu-ray spinning. Some people find it annoying but if you start it in TV mode then it won't do that.
Over all, this item is worth the buy because I have yet to see other brands sell an all in one item like this for such a cheap price. In my opinion, if I have to deal with a remote not being glow in the dark and the channels taking a few seconds to tune while switching then its still minor compared to all the great things this TV offers for such a cheap price.

Good value for the money

On the surface, this television is a pretty good value. It’s easy to setup up right out of the box. With built in Blueray/DVD, Ethernet (for wired networking), WiFi for wireless networking, USB, 3 hdmi ports, a headphone jack, VGA (for a computer), S-Video and a whole assortment of other stuff to connect, you’re ready to roll. Whether it holds up long term with normal use, wear and tear remains to be seen. Ultimately, a product’s quality and longevity without repair is the true test of value.
That said, as another reviewer stated, this unit is best used as a wall mount and has connections on both the side and the bottom. Four side connections (Ethernet, USB, 1 hdmi and headphone) are recessed and out of sight; aesthetically this works for me (it looks good). The rest are on the on the bottom, also recessed a few inches up behind the panel. The side-mounted manual menu, input, volume and power buttons provide for a clean look when facing the unit and are handy should you misplace your remote. The disc player is side mounted with manual controls. It’s surprisingly noisy during operation and some computer discs don’t play well; there may be some compatibility issues. The HDTV picture is good overall but you’ll have to make some adjustments (an onscreen, relatively easy process – the remote is easy to use too - with a sufficient number of options). The standard definition picture is adequate. The sound isn't that great, but in a small room, does it really matter? There are adequate options built into this unit for hooking it up to a sound system.
If you’re really serious about TV – high refresh rate, super-duper picture quality, technical enhancements, etc., you may be a little disappointed particularly if you’re comparing this to high end units. This is, after all, a value TV. But if you’re looking for an extra unit for the bedroom or you simply don’t want to spend $1k or more for a television, this may be the unit you’re looking for. It works for me.

I purchased an Insignia Blu-ray TV combo last December and had many problems with the Blu-ray player. After several trips to Best Buy for repairs it was decided by Best Buy to replace my TV/Blu-ray combo with this model. The TV part of the unit works great with wonderfully clear pictures and great sound. However, during my very first use of the Blu-ray player while watching a Blu-ray copy of "The Sound of Music" at about 1/3 of the way through the movie the TV screen filled with scriggly (My best description) lines and after a minute or so the screen went solid green. I was unable to use any of the Blu-ray controls on the remote or on the unit itself, so I turned the unit off and turned it back on and was able to start over watching the movie with no further problems. Today as I was watching a standard DVD of the movie "Flags of Our Fathers" the screen once again began to fill with somewhat different looking scriggly lines and then changec to the Insignia Blu-ray logo and after 30 second to black. Shortly thereafter a box appeared with the simple statement "No Signal." Niether the controls on the remote nor those on the unit have had any effect on the operation of the Blu-ray player. I read the owner's manual and tried every remedy suggested with no effect. I cannot even eject the disk. It is in the unit even now as I type this. I have tried repeatedly today to somehow make the Blu-ray player respond, unfortunately, to no avail. I will have to return the unit to Best Buy with the disk still in the player. If offered a replacement unit I believe I shall request a seperate TV and Blu-ray player. The combo units simply seem to have problems.

We have only used this tv/blue ray combo for about 2 weeks but the video is great and the sound is fine for a small bedroom. I don't know how it would sound in a larger room. We are still getting used to the controls (how to switch back and forth from DVD to TV, and have not yet tried the internet options. I'm hoping to be able to figure the internet portion out but at this point, Redbox is still cheaper than movies you get through the internet. The price was fantastic (about $500 for 32" combo). We use the stand - which does not swivel like we were told it does. I used to be partial to Sony products and most recently, Samsung - but the Insignia LCD is just as good in my opinion. Way to go Best Buy!

I bought a 32" Insignia Blu-Ray Combo a few months back for the price and my needs for that day. Let me daughter know she could have it when she moved this fall as I was still shopping for what I wanted as my primary TV............As I am shopping the BB site today these are listed with the status coming soon and my local store does not have one in stock either. I hope they arrive soon. She moves out in 6 days, and I want another!!!! Easy, good pic, sound is decent, love all the ports. Really love the ability to play DVD's/Blu-Ray with out having to have another device cluttering up the works!

I'm happy with the TV and Blue Ray. It serves my purposes. Two things that are frustrating. On the remote the "Fav" button is too far from the up and down arrow buttons. Channels cannot be changed using one hand. Also, when putting my stand on the TV, I discovered that the stand was not machined to fit on the TV straight. Consequently when my TV is facing forward, parallel to the wall, the stand is at an angle. I'm not sure if the TV screen is supposed to rotate in the stand. It definately does not with my stand. I can live with both of these issues. They were just frustraing.

Can't Beat the Deal

I searched and search for a combo unit that was 1080. This was one of, if not, the only one that I found. It was priced very close to the 720 units I was finding with DVD. Then, come to find out it's not only 1080, but it's BlueRay instead of just DVD. To be honest, that's all I needed to know at the price. When I received the TV and unpackaged it, I realized that it had Wi-Fi...just an added bonus for me, but pretty cool. This is by far the best value that I found on the internet and I have not been at all disappointed. I would recommend this product if you are looking for a combo unit and/or you would like to be connected to the internet. One drawback to this TV for the application that I am using it for, is the sound. The volume is fairly limited, so I may end up connecting it to an external audio source...not a bad deal, since that would provide surround sound for the BlueRay. I just wish they made it in a larger size, but maybe I just overlooked it. In my searching, nobody make a built-in DVD player on a TV over 32 inches.

This is our first HD TV. It works very well...the picture is excellent and for the price - you can't beat it! The only thing they really should improve is the connection to Netflix. It's odd that you need to select the Blueray player. I'm sure this could be fixed in the software to make it more user friendly. Also, it would be nice if the remote were backlit.
Other than those small details, this is a very nice TV.

Really love this TV so far. It's a great secondary TV for a smaller room. It is a perfect size and really love that it includes a blu-ray player (very hard to find this all in one combo) and all for a very reasonable price. The only complaint that I have is the sound comes out the top/back of the set so I have to have it turned up to hear it and also the sound doesn't have enough bass but I may have to see if there a way to adjust that. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this TV and would definitely recommend it. ALSO, PLEASE tell people when they purchase this set that the base of the TV appears to go on crooked when putting it together but to go ahead as the directions say and that once you set the TV/stand upright the WEIGHT of the TV will make it swivel and the stand will be straight. The directions do not tell you that and I thought I was doing something wrong or that it was broken! It would be helpful if people are told either when they purchase this set or if it were written into the directions.

Good TV, Netflix is great, buy the Protection Plan

I have had this TV for about six months and, for the most part, have enjoyed it; however, I have had my share of trouble. I took the first one back to the store because I thought there was a speaker problem. I saw an earlier review that talked about the problem with using the external speaker setting. If you don't switch back to internal speakers before you turn the tv off or switch format; when you turn it back on, the volume will be up all the way. I spoke with Insignia and was told my set was defective but when I got my new tv home--the same problem. So I just don't use my surround sound much anymore for normal tv viewing.
I have had problems before with various tvs, so I purchased the black tie protection plan. And, right on que, about 3 months after I had it, the blue ray player quit working. I was told that the part was on backorder to fix it, but after three months of waiting, I have now been authorized to return the tv to a store for replacement.
Why do I still give it three stars? Because I bought it mainly to stream Netflix and in that regard I have not had any problems. It is tricky at first because you have to enter Blu Ray mode to access Netflix. However, once I got that figured out, I have really enjoyed Netflix. Also, you can't beat the price for a 32" Smart TV. I am just thankful that I purchased the protection plan, because I am already on my third tv already. But I have peace of mind, knowing that I will be able to have my set fixed or replaced for four years.

Christmas Disappointment
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Read the reviews. This unit has big problems with the Blu-ray player. I opened up the unit on Christmas Day and the Blu-ray player sounded like a blender and would not work--at all! Many other reviews also mention problems with dead blu-ray players (i'm not sure why more of these people don't rate this a 1 star rating).
Sound is bad, but that is typical of flat screen TVs these days. The problem is that if you want to hook the TV up to external speakers with the analog RCA jacks you will have a BIG problem. There is a glitch in the unit where if you have the set set to external speakers (so the RCA audio out jacks will work) then every time you turn the TV on or change the input (like going from TV to Blu-ray) the internal speakers suddenly turn up to full volume and you cannot turn them down! The remote locks out the volume and mute functions, requiring you to go deem into the setup menu to change the audio settings from external speakers back to internal speakers, then back to external speakers (then the volume goes back to the regular level). For me this makes the TV unusable and is even more of a problem than the dead blu-ray player (which I assume would work on a replacement model).
The menu system is horrible and the remote is hard to use. Netflix is hidden in the blu-ray menu under "connections" which is virtually impossible for anyone not savvy in negotiating electronic menus to find. The button on the remote that says "BD" does not switch the unit to Blu-ray (i really don't know what it does). To switch to blu-ray you have to push the video input button and scroll down to blu-ray! Seriously, how about a little integration since the blu-ray is actually built in, you'd think they might incorporate an easy way to switch back and forth between TV and Blu-ray.
I took a chance with the Insignia brand and am very disappointed. I will return the unit and go with a better quality brand.
On the positive, the picture quality was good.

The reviews on here are true. I read all the reviews for this tv, and a good amount of people were having issues with a faulty blu ray player. I decided to jump on it anyway because of the fairly good deal and and the fact it comes with built in blu ray/dvd player. I bought this tv as a bedroom tv for my parents and they have limited space, and this tv offered the built in blu ray player plus connectivity to the internet for pandora and netflix to maximize space. No extra blu ray player needed.
As soon as i bought the tv and got it home I popped in Dark Knight and sure enough, it had a faulty blu ray player. It sounded like a blender(exactly what happened to another earlier reviewer). I can't say I was surprised so I took it back and exchanged it for the same set, but I (like another reviewer) made the geek squad make sure that the new replacement set had a good blu ray player. They did, and thankfully this new set works as designed. I am now happy, as the tv is working as designed.
Bottomline, Insignia seriously needs to do some better quality control so they don't get faulty products on the shelves. I recommend it but don't be surprised if blu ray doesnt work. Good buy as long as it works.

I bought this as a bedroom TV for my daughter. It was pretty easy to set up and the picture looked great. The sound is not the best, but for the speakers it has, its not too bad. I have watched a couple of movies on it and everything looks really good picture wise. If you are looking for a decent LDC with a built in Blu-ray player, this is a good choice. I did get the extended warranty because I had read some complaints about the disk player breaking, but hopefully I wont have to deal with that.
