    MANY UNITS WITH OUTDATED FIRMWARE!!!!

This CAN be an awesome smart speaker.. I bought two for my bedroom, one apparently was from a batch with the latest firmware, the other wasn’t.. The one with latest firmware does everything its supposed to, when you ask for temperature it says and DISPLAYS temp, you can set alarms and even sleep timers, BEWARE NONE of this works with the unit with outdated firmware!! It says “There was a glitch” when you try to set an alarm, it says “This feature is not supported yet” when you try to do a sleep timer... Etc.. I returned the first one with outdated firmware, bought another & one for mother in law.. BOTH of those had outdated firmware!! I went to a different Best Buy in attempt to get a different batch, and replaced those.. BOTH of those had same issue!!!!!! The EXTREMELY irritating part of all of this is that there is NO way to force a firmware update.. You have to wait for one to eventually, hopefully be pushed to your device... Giving it a day doesn’t work... I researched up and down & called Insignia to no avail. So except for 1 out of 6 total speakers, I experienced Smart Speaker with no smart features. Terrible. ... If they all worked like the one with correct firmware, I would give 5 stars.. Listening out of two of these speakers sounds awesome.. But if I can’t even set an alarm with the darn thing, what kind of “Smart” thing is this?

    Won't stay connected to Wifi

Let me preface this with pointing out that I've got 1 Google Home, 2 Google Home Minis, One of these speakers, and one more that is the larger battery version of this speaker. And this speaker has _never_ been able to keep a reliable connection. The larger battery powered version has worked fine, and all the Google Branded speakers have as well. The issue is that this speaker has some sort of sub-standard wifi chip/antenna in it and the slightest of (and normal) fluctuations in wifi causes this device to disconnect and then the speaker never even attempts to reconnect on it's own. You've got to constantly reconnect this thing to wifi from the Google Home app. It happens multiple times a day. If it wasn't for this issue this would be an easy 4-5 stars, but this issue is prevalent in all of these devices, you're MUCH better off going with the Google Home Mini, while it doesn't have an always on clock, it's speaker is just as good (the google home mini is not quite as loud, but this speaker is really bad quality at the louder volumes) and it's I've never had an issue with it randomly disconnecting. Plus the Google Home Mini is significantly cheaper most of the time. The always on clock display and USB port to charge your phone on the back was why I bought this, if it weren't for the crappy wifi in this thing it would make a great option for a bedside clock.

    Dead after 2 weeks.

NS-CSPGASP SKU: 5865801 I bought 2 speakers when they was on sale. I really tried to like Insignia product but this will be the last time. The speaker worked well for 2 weeks then one day one of the unit keep saying "there's glitch, please try again later" , At 1st I thought it was Google server but when I test on other Google home products in the house and they're working fine and there's nothing with my Wifi. I reset the device a few times & even delete my Google home app and reinstall it in an attempt to reconnect the device then another error pops up in my app "unable to connect to the cloud". This is when I begin to suspect that there's something wrong with the device wifi antennae that prevented it from connect to the wifi. I ended up returned the device at a local Best Buy. My other experience with Insignia product wasn't good either. I also bought 2 Insignia digital radio clocks and they too died after a year when the light on the digital number failed to glow and the other just died. Over all, I am very disappointed with Insignia products. Insignia is more than welcome to contact me for further info on the products. I should just spend a little more in the beginning to get a "name brand" device and save on future problems & extra spending. PN

Google Assistant is great, but awful alarm clock

Bought this for a bedroom alarm clock. Kind of a cool idea to mix that with Google Home...but then I tried to set it up. The clock is controlled by your wifi/smartphone app. For some reason it won't set the correct time if you live in Arizona, so I have to change my phone settings to get the correct time synced to the clock. Not only that, but any time our wireless signal restarts or goes off, I have to completely re-setup the Insignia, changing my phone's date and time setting back and forth each time. It's extremely annoying to have to do this when you're about to go to bed. Also, google assistant won't work if the wifi signal goes off, so if you reboot the router or your power goes off, you're looking at a 10 minute setup process for this stupid device. So this is next to our bed, but the blue light is incredibly bright. We have lost sleep, we have stuck dimming sheets over the clock face. Why couldn't they have added a dimming feature? This thing only has one real button, and that's to turn the mic on and off. I've also found the bluetooth feature difficult to use. You have to press two fingers on the top of the clock to start bt sync, which for some reason is a feat of prestidigitation that I can't manage half the time. I don't know how clear I've been, but in my experience this device has really been a piece of crap--which is really quite rare these days. I guess I'm gonna put it on ebay and buy a regular alarm clock and an echo dot. I wouldn't recommend this product to my worst enemy. The price of this thing has been plummeting, and it's easy to see why.

Terrible product - wifi does not work

I purchased this product on ebay-bestbuy last week based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews on this site. I bought a google home mini in December and have enjoyed using it, so thought this would be a great second speaker for my bedroom. It's not. I submitted a review on ebay as well, but it was not displaying, so I'm reviewing here to hopefully add some helpful criticism for anyone else purchasing it. This speaker must have the wifi antenna in a poor location or just a weak antenna. I am unable to get it to connect to the internet, unless it is about 15 feet away from the wifi router. I use a TP-Link Archer C2 AC750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac/n/a. This router provides signal throughout my home. I set this up in two locations and it did not work in either places. The google home mini worked in both of the places. I tried putting it on the shelf right next to my google home mini and the only response I got was "there was a glitch" or "something went wrong." I am unable to use this in my bedroom for an alarm clock as planned. Based on this experience, I would not recommend anyone purchase it. Stick with a google home mini.

    Very Buggy

I have this Insignia speaker in my bathroom, but I have other Google Home speakers in other places in my house. With the other Google Home speakers, they can determine which device is closest to answer. If the Insignia hears the question, it will answer even if I'm much closer to the other Google Home speakers. This is frustrating because I often cannot hear its response if I'm in a different room. This only happens with the Insignia and not the other Google Home speakers. Also, the Insignia has performance problems. If cannot stream music when there are multiple conversations going on around it. I recently had several people talking near it while it was playing music, and the music became very scratchy while the Insignia was doing voice detection. As soon as everyone stopped talking, the music went back to normal. Finally, it's frustrating that it has a built-in display for temperature, but it doesn't display it unless you use voice to ask. It seems that most or all of these problems could be fixed with software updates, so I'm hoping to update my review if Insignia fixes these bugs.

I Bought this speaker and ran into problems during setup. I got this error message: "There was a problem setting up Insignia NS-CSPGASP." I clicked on the Help button and it took me to Google tech support. When they found out is was an Insignia device they said they could not help me and told me to go to Best Buy for support. I went to the Best Buy support forums and there are many other people with the same problem. This is what Best Buy has to say: "Thank you for bringing this to our attention! We are aware of this issue and have reached out to our Insignia engineers to request additional information regarding these errors. Although we do not have an estimated timeframe for a resolution, we will be sure to keep you updated here with any news that comes our way. This is unacceptable! This speaker is going back to the store. Don't buy this. They should have never released this. They shouldn't be selling things that don't work and they don't a clue about how to fix them.

Sound quality is decent for the price. That’s the only positive thing I have to say about this product. The version of Google Assistant this thing comes with is VERY old and buggy (mine is stuck at version 105, the current version available is 314). Lots of errors while giving commands, no calling, no routines, no continued conversation, no broadcast capability. The worst part is there is no way to update the firmware to a version of Google Assistant that works properly. The support people at Insignia are not helpful. They say the product will update automatically - it doesn’t. I’ve had mine for almost two weeks and it’s still on the same years old, useless firmware it was on the day I got it. Stay away.

I bought 3 of these at sale price at bestbuy for 49.99. First one had all ready been op-ed and returned, and magically ended back on shelf. 2nd one did nothing at all. I was on tech support for an hour. 3rd one and 3 hours wasted and it can't hear me if you play it past 60. If you wave your hand over it The volume go to 20 for 3 sec and then back where it was. Seems useless feature. The temperature never showed up on any of them no matter how I asked the dam thing. Also it does not have the latest firmware update. Insignia is a best buy brand and they out to keep up on this. The up to date version includes the ability to tweak audio and certain other things. I would definatly pass considering they have gone up in price in the last week. Only gave it one star because customer support although not being able to help was very nice and did try.

Doesn't work with Google Home Mini

    Posted
    DallasGG

I received my Insignia Smart Speaker in Dec 2017. I have a Google Home Mini within hearing range of my Insignia smart speaker. Even if the Google Home Mini is closer when I say "hey google", the Insignia smart speaker "takes over" and responds. I read somewhere online that this used to work correctly...that the insignia smart speaker would let the google home mini respond when it was closer. This NO LONGER WORKS CORRECTLY. The Insignia smart speaker ALWAYS responds even if it's much further away. This makes using my google home mini's almost unusable. THIS MUST BE FIXED or the Insignia smart speaker is basically useless....at least as far as my situation is concerned. If someone from Bestbuy/Insignia is reading this, PLEASE FIX THIS SO THAT THE INSIGNIA SMART SPEAKER AND GOOGLE HOME MINIS WORK WITH EACH OTHER!!!!! Note: as of 1/7/2018, this was still not working correctly.

Not as Advertised - not Bluetooth

    Posted
    bestbuyguy100

Even though in the title it clearly says it's a Bluetooth device, it will not play music from your phone. By bluetooth, it means you can use your phone to tell it what music to play via bluetooth, but not stream them from your phone. You must upload all your music to Google's cloud, and then you can listen to it that way. If you have limited bandwidth, this is going to be a problem. That also means you can't use it for anything else, either - not for playing the sound from a game or another app. I returned mine. I bought mine online. Interestingly, the actual product doesn't have bluetooth in the title - " Insignia Voice-Voice Activated Speaker", though on the box it does say bluetooth compatible, though again doesn't specify that it won't play from your device.

I bought this speaker less than three months ago and half the time it doesn't work. When I say "OK Google" and ask a question, it replies "Something went wrong , try again in a few seconds." So I wait a few seconds and try again, and again, and again. I contacted Google Assistant tech support and they were helping me until I mentioned that it was an Insignia speaker with Google Assistant. They told me because it was not a Google product they don't offer tech support and to contact Best Buy, and they won't help you unless you pay for Geek Squad tech support, which costs more than I paid for the speaker. I have tired rebooting the speaker by unplugging it for one minute, but that is not a long-term solution.

I am so sad I bought these. I picked up two for Christmas gifts thinking I would be upgrading from a Google Home Mini. The functionality (having a clock) and the speaker are definitely an improvement over the comparably priced mini but the wifi cards in these are completely useless. Unless you are right next to your router they will constantly cycle and lose connectivity. I literally threw them both in the trash and went back to OEM Google products.

I was looking for an alarm clock and bought the insignia voice smart Bluetooth speaker and alarm clock with google assistant because it was on sale. It worked great for 5 days. Then I began having problems with the music. I’d ask google to play something from pandora and the music pauses every 5 to 10 seconds. It got so annoying that I stopped using it for anything other than an alarm clock. The numbers on the alarm clock are fuzzy, not clear. I should have returned it right away. I don’t recommend this product to anyone. I tried looking up on how to solve my problem. It seems others have had the same issues. Problem is still not solved. I’ve owned this for a month. I’m dissatisfied.

When I saw the capabilities of this product and the my reaction was of happiness. Unfortunately when I took it home 2 things stood out. I could never set the time right as it was always 1 hour behind or 30 minutes. Followed the support staff instructions with no success. I also noticed I couldn't use automation commands as Ok Google, Good Night to perform the pre-configured task. The item was returned to the store after 4 days of troubleshooting the time zone issues. Used many time zones with no success as the setup process depends on the phones time settings could not configure independently. Hope the next updates fix this.

I've had two of these for a little more than a week and I think they've actually been CONNECTED to the internet for less than a third of that time. I have to set them up literally every day because not only do they lose connection to WiFi (despite one being in the SAME room as the router - like 6 FEET away from it), they basically lose their identity and need to be reset over and over and over... So today they went offline three times. Back in their boxes they go for a return to the store tomorrow. If it were just one I'd say I got a lemon, but TWO behaving in identical fashion leads me to believe these are junk and that's why they were on sale for so little. AVOID.

I purchased this thinking it was basically the same as a google home but it isnt. You'll be quick to find that a lot of the features present on the google home are unavailable on this device because it is a few firmware versions behind and it is completely up to insignia on if they will update the device as google updates theirs. This means potentially dropped support in the future. If I can return this, I'm 100% going to and I'm getting a mini instead. Certain features this lacks are routines and phone calls, both of which were available on the home for quite some time now.

Junk is putting it nicely. Doesn’t work. Bought 10 of these for $19.00 each for their door buster sale. I thought I was getting a great dea... little did I know I was buying a $19.00 paper weight. Alarm doesn’t work, set up is a joke, everything that’s asked to google gets error response. Only good side is as of right now the clock works. So if you want to buy a clock/paper weight this is the item for you. If you want to buy it with to perform any of the task it was designed to do you will be disappointed. Consider yourself warned.

Randomly appears as open unsecured network

Device randomly appears as an open, unsecured network in list of available wifi networks. I don't understand why and it seems like a security risk for someone to backdoor their way into my secured home network, though I'm not tech savvy enough to know if that's a warranted concern or not. Insignia and Best Buy customer service both seemed completely incapable of giving me instructions on how to secure the device. Otherwise, it was kind of cool but I'm going to try to return it because it's making me uncomfortable.

    Clock stuck on Eastern Time

    Posted
    Rlonjohnson

I wish I was joking, but I purchased this product yesterday at a Best Buy in Phoenix, set it up via the Google Home app, and the clock displays only Eastern time! There doesn't appear to be a way to change the clock physically. I called tech support, and the offshore rep's only advice was to reset it, and when that didn't work, told me to return it. If this is a known issue with the device, Best Buy's should pull this from the shelves or post a warning. Maybe this will be fixed with an upcoming firmware update, but the clock is the one differential feature vs. a Google Home Mini, etc.

Hello, thanks a lot for your review! We're sorry you're having issues with the Time Zone on your speaker's display. This occurs when you have selected the "manual" time setting on your phone or smart device. Here is how you correct this problem: 1. Do a Factory Default Reset (FDR) on your Insignia Voice™ speaker by pressing the microphone/mute button on the back for ~12 seconds until the LED's turn solid Orange. 2. Make sure your phone (device) is set to "AUTO TIME ZONE" and is showing the correct time. 3. Once the device announces "Hi, I'm You're Google Assistant . . .", finish the set up on the Google Home app. Contact us at 1-877-467-4289 if you continue having issues and one of our representatives will happily assist you!
