Maybe a step back for Harmony

I have been a Harmony remote user for a very long time. I have 4 currently, all of varying models. There are things I really like about this one, and some I really don't. Pros Like every Harmony, setting it up is a piece of cake. Just either create or log into your account, add your hardware, and create Activities. You can then customize the individual buttons. If you're migrating from another Harmony remote it's even easier. This is definitely where the Harmony remote shines. I've used many others, but none can compete with the simplicity of setup, and the awesomeness of the Activities. The Harmony remote knows the status of every device, so gong from one thing to another is quick and easy. Much better than creating macros with other remotes. I like the touch screen for the most part (see cons). Flipping from screen to screen is easy, and the screen is very responsive. The colors look good, and the screen is easy to see/read. Having a screen full of favorite channels is great. The charging cradle is very nice, a huge improvement over some of the cradles Harmony has used in the past. The rechargeable battery is great, mostly (see cons). Cons The button layout is terrible. No really, it's terrible. The Play/Stop/FF/Rew buttons are really inconveniently located way at the top of the remote. It's hard to hit them while holding the remote in our hand. Poor design. The battery life isn't great. The rmeote needs to be charge every couple of days. This is fine, as it charges easily in the cradle, but annoying when you forget and pick up the dead remote. While I like the touch screen, I hate that the number keys are only included on it. I generally find myself on the favorites screen, which means I need to swipe over a couple of screens to get to the number pad. I find myself changing how I use the remote to avoid having to do that, and it's a pain. Bad design. The remote ergonomics aren't wonderful. It doesn't fit well in your hand, and the balance is off. Overall, I *think* the pros outweigh the cons, but if I had to do it over, I may have gone with a different model from Harmony. I got this one because BB had it as the deal of the day and it was cheap. At full price I'd definitely skip it.

I purchased this as a replacement for my harmony one. This is a nice remote but I feel the one was a better remote. The battery life seems lower than previous versions. With the one it would warn you when the battery is dying. The touch had not given any warnings just shutdown. I had to put it in the cradle to charge so I could shutdown my system. Maybe there is a setting I am missing for this feature. Logitech also moved the play, pause, rew, ff buttons to the top of the remote. They are in an awkward spot as these are the most used buttons when I watch shoes from my dvr. The harmony one had them in the middle were the ergonomics of the remote are. The touch also got rid of the chapter skip buttons, these can be programmed to the touch screen, but physical buttons would have been nice. IEnjoy the remote and would recommend it but the innovation is a little lacking.

I really wanted to love this remote, and the fact I got it for 66% off definitely didn't hurt, but it's got too many quirks to give it 5/5 stars. First, setup was quite simple. Download the program to your computer, connect the remote, and program away. I had it ready to go in 5 minutes. The rechargeable integrated batteries are a nice touch, and I wouldn't mind charging it every month, but it seems that the remote doesn't hold a charge for longer than a week with moderate use. Also, when selecting the activity, i.e. watching tv through the cable box, Apple TV, or a DVD, it seems hit or miss whether the proper actions will take place. Learning to hold the remote facing the TV & components for 5-10 seconds takes some getting used to, but is doable. The biggest qualm I have is the design of the remote. It's fine to hold, but as soon as you set it on the coffee table, it rocks back and forth for a few seconds trying to steady itself. Not a big deal, but just an annoyance that could've been easily fixed by either flattening the design, or placing some stabilizing bar at the front of the remote. Overall, nice remote and easy setup, but I wouldn't pay full price for it.

Still trying to get to this work with current video equipment. Called tech support and they said for some reason the Volume UP on my tv won't register to the remote, and they were supposed to update it online, but still haven't been able to after a week. Pretty frustrating. That aside, assuming this will work eventually, it seems pretty easy to use, although holding it in one hand is awkward of you want to use any button besides the touch screen. But I guess they had to make a choice which would be easy to press, and they chose the screen over all other functions

Button placement at the bottom of the remote hinders the ergonomics, and a page up/down button that's not part of the touch screen would have been nice, but works well overall. Logitech website says its upgradable to home hub if you have a non IR remote box such as Amazon Fire TV

I am a first time buyer of this remote, or any type of advanced universal remote control. I was originally interested in the Logitech Harmony One, but I decided to buy the Touch because of the sale price and money back gift card that came with it. I will start off saying I am not comparing between previous Logitech universal remotes because I have never used them. I am only reviewing the Touch. Ergonomics: The overall appearance is nice; however, the ergonomics is rather clumsy. Due to the groovy mold of the remote, laying it on a flat surface causes it to wobble left and right. If you put it down real hard and happen to put it on the edge of your coffee table, you could very well wobble it right off the edge of the table. I haven’t had that happen but the fact that it wobbles is rather annoying. The screen is a great size, but having it in between the remote’s buttons is rather annoying. If you must use the top buttons, you’ll easily activate the screen by your palm or edge of your hand. The screen should have been placed above or below all buttons to maximize convenience. You can easily hit another function on the screen options and change the input; therefore deactivating your equipment and having to restart everything. It would really suck if this happened while gaming, but it’s very well plausible. Another design flaw would be the lack of physical number buttons. You have to use the on screen menu to access numbers. It’s just another two steps, but if they were on the remote physically, it would maximize efficiency in changing channels or navigating through the guide. Because they are touch buttons, you physically have to look down to make sure you’re pressing the right numbers, something I never have to do with physical buttons. Software: The software suite is very nice. It’s nice that it’s all online and you do not have to install any software but a simple driver to recognize the remote. The online suite is step by step and gives you utmost control of every button on your remote, the way you organize your on-screen commands, and layout. I will not get into great detail on this because it’s so intuitive and can be used in many different ways to customize your remote. Don’t be afraid to venture into the options, because everything is step-by-step and walks you through exactly what you’re changing for your convenience. Other notes: Battery life is nice. Considering I do not use it all that much, it can easily last five days or more. I have my remote hooked up to several devices: A/V receiver, Blu-ray player, TV, Xbox, Xbox 360, a Lasko Tower Fan, and a heater, yes an actual heater! You can literally hook up anything to this remote that uses a remote control. Logitech’s online library codes will help you get anything connected to it. Things I’ve come to notice: Sometimes I had to resave my online profile to the remote because it stopped turning on my A/V receiver with the command it was associated with. I also had this happen to my Xbox. I re-synced my remote but it really didn’t do much good. I’m not sure what is up with that but it’s an easy fix. Each time you press a command to turn on your components, the wizard will ask you if everything turned on. If it didn’t, the wizard will guide you through each component from power up command to input command to make sure your devices are on and on the right inputs. Overall, this is a good remote. I really like it in contrast of replacing 8 remotes. I do think it is a good investment but not so much if I didn't catch this item on sale. Due to the ergonomics and lack of physical number buttons—this is what contributed to my over all ratings. Hope my review is helpful! Good luck :-)

I got this remote to replace a Harmony 650. This remote offers some fancier features with the touchscreen and the favorite channels. I think it's also more visually appealing. However, I think the 650 is just as functional, if not more. The Touch gives you the ability to control more devices, but the 650 still had more than plenty for my needs. I actually prefer the ergonomics of the 650. I prefer the buttons on the Touch over the touchscreen for most functions...it makes the Touch awkward because the important buttons are at the bottom of the remote. It would be a HUGE improvement for both of these remotes if they used Bluetooth. All in, here's my take: get the Touch if you like techy devices and can catch it on sale for a big discount (I've bought a couple for $99/ea). For your average everyday user, just get the 650 and call it good.

I am a big fan of Logitech products. However this is the worst product they ever made. Very poor design. The remote is very short and sits awkward in the palm. The main function buttons are in the wrong spot. Only plus is the preset station favorites. Returned to Best Buy. Will keep using my old Harmony 650.

Pricy but well worth it to have 1 remote out instead of 3. Design would be better for people with bigger hands if it had a little more length on the bottom half of the remote. Only command I have not figured out how to do is look at page 2 of the info on a show on our time warner connection. Recharging stand works well and is not obtrusive sitting on a table. Holds the charge well.

Poor Ergonomics, not nearly as user friendly as past harmony remotes, poor design, have to press a button for remote to light up as opposed to past remotes which light up with movement(a key feature). I've had three prior harmony remotes and this one does not stack up.

It's an ok remote but in my opinion has major ergonomic issues. The controls should be placed differently, the menu is CONFUSING AS CAN POSSIBLY BE!! I will add that the setup is better on the My Harmony site. I still use my old 650,just can't groove with this new one.

After making a recent TV change to my current set up, I tried to sync my beloved Harmony One with my new TV...I had this remote for 4 years I think. I tried to update the remote, but due to the old software, I was unable to sync it. I went to Best Buys and purchased the Harmony Touch for only $99..I set it up and got it going, but wasn't really feeling it. The next day I bought a Harmony 700 (same physical design as the Harmony One) and I still kept the Harmony Touch...So I had both remotes together and spent a lot of time using each one. The Harmony 700 has so many advantages over the Touch, mainly the functions, usability and ergonomics. The Harmony Touch has the touch screen and looks better. My Harmony Touch only cost me $99, instead of $299..that's why I got it, less $$ than the Harmony 700...I'm stuck, but this review is about the Harmony Touch. If you can get it for a great price like I did, then get it. If not get the Harmony 700. The Harmony Touch works very well once you learn it, which doesn't take long, but it's not worth the Moola. For the price wouldn't recommend it.

Worst Harmony I have ever used

I bought this remote to replace a Harmony 880 that was getting old and the power button was broken. The design on this remote is so bad. There is no tilt sensor, so when you pick it up the back light doesn't turn on. So when you are using it in a dark room, you have to push a button first which in turn sends commands to your devices. The DVD controls are on top above the touch screen. So when you use them you hit the touch screen which sends commands to your devices. The IR emitter is so weak you have to point it directly at your device receivers almost comically or it won't register. Which then puts you in a half started command limbo where you have to use the troubleshooter. Also, the weak IR makes you have to hit the buttons twice most of the time. When I set up the remote to control my theater with a Panasonic VT50 TV it wouldn't change the HDMI inputs with the one touch command. Customer service was worthless; making me go through all these menus on the TV, like it wasn't the remote's fault. I finally just lied to the remote and told it I had a VT30 to make it work. I only use the remote for movies and Xbox which means I use the remote to turn it on, push play and then turn it off when I'm done. Every time I shut everything down I check the battery life on the remote to see if I have to plug it in. When it gets to about half life, the next day it will be 100% dead. I can't imagine how bad the battery life is if you use it to watch television where you are constantly changing the channel or using the fast forward button on your DVR. I honestly don't understand how this remote gets such good reviews, because it's so bad. I guess if you have never used a universal remote before, this one seems like magic. However, I own three other Harmony remotes and I have set up 2 additional for family members. I can honestly say this is the worst one I have ever used.

The remote is a big improvement over the One in many ways such as: -the huge touch screen -change settings on remote -reconfigure the remote directly on the remote using big screen -inclusion of favorite icons -dedicated buttons for Red, Green, Yellow and Blue functions used by almost all DVR's -Gestures - great for page up/down and Skip Back/Fwd -After two weeks very comfortable in hand now although took a while to find the sweet spot Cons: -Not having two sets of back/fwd buttons -No dedicated skip fwd/skip bkwd button - -s on screen now and just not as convenient -Screen takes getting used to -Where to hold takes getting use to -Placement of trick play buttons seems really odd at first - did adjust though -Tech support did not know how to reorder the Activities - took multiple tickets and turns out it is really simple on the remote directly -Sure tech support will improve as they also get more use to the remote

I had been asking for another Harmony remote for the other TV as I LOVE the Harmony 900 we use. My wife bought me one last Christmas. The clerk told her to buy the "new better" 915 HARMONY. Worst mistake. This remote is awful in EVERY way. Hard to handle and hold. Awkward design causes me to hit the touch screen accidentally all the time screwing everything up and trying to figure out how to get back to where I need to go. The touch screen is so big it is very difficult to use any of the other buttons without hitting it unintentionally. The huge design on the bottom makes it impossible to change channels and hold with one hand. There is NOTHING good about this remote & EVERYTHING bad. I have wanted to throw it out the window daily. I want the 900 harmony! Newer doesn't mean BETTER! PLEASE call me I WANT to trade DOWN to the 900 superior remote!

Bought this thinking it was the "successor" to the Logitech Harmony One... so I got it home and thought I could just hook it up to my Mac where I had the Logitech Harmony software already installed. WRONG. It not only told me that I had to go to the web site to manage this, but that I had to install Silverlight, of all things, along with the Logitech Harmony software in order to do the setup management. I was completely displeased with this and have a complaint in to Logitech about it, including a demand for an exchange for something that does not require Silverlight. Why even require me to have the Logitech Harmony software if I cannot use it without Silverlight? This is lazy programming on the part of Logitech. That said, it does perform similar to the Harmony One. I'm just not sure about the ergonomics of this one compared to the Harmony One.
