Really want to love it, but...

To be fair, the product works very well. Typical good build quality for this brand, and I really like the textured material used on the back of the remote (helps with gripping the unit). You may want to consider my two gripes: 1) No way to enter a channel number. You can pre-program your desired channels, but there is no way other than the channel up/down and arrow keys to change channels. I think they should have a soft keyboard function since there are no number keys. 2) I hate that I have now have to use two different software applications to program my various logitech remote. Big miss and inconvenience!

I have used Harmony remotes for some time and this is another solid offering. The charging cradle is much improved over previous models that eventually failed. The setup is easy, although the Harmony software on the computer is very antiquated and needs a refresh. Initially, the placement of some of the physical buttons is opposite DirecTV, but we quickly adapted. The swipe functions on the screen worked okay, but find we don't really use them very often.

    My 5th And Last ...

I've always been a fan f the Logitech "Touch" remotes; however, after getting this one - I think my fondness has come to a screeching halt. The software updates in the MyHarmony software have been so bad for this series that all my remotes are operating incredibly slow (mind you, I operate five televisions on five separate Logitech remotes) that I am on the verge of getting rid of all of them and looking for a new brand. I've purchased these since their first release (I think my first one was $350!) and have always been so happy with them -- but I cannot give it a glowing review as in the years past.

Poor excuse for a high end Harmony.

The MyHarmony.com page is a sad excuse for a replacement of the previous software. Layout is very poorly designed. The remote is not near as flexible as it should be for this price range. Touch gestures are pointless.

I was looking to replace my Harmony One so I could move it to my bedroom. I read about this one and could not wait to try it. First, I have to say that the setup was unbelievably easy! The Harmony software that comes with the Harmony One is garbage. It always had problems running on my Mac and PC. I was skeptical about the web interface, but it was extremely user friendly and worked perfectly on my both OS's. The transfer process from the Harmony One to the Harmony Touch was simple and setting up the favorite channels was easy. Setup took about 15 minutes, tops. Using the remote is so much easier because of the size and functionality of the touch screen. I run DirecTV, my Blu-Ray player, Apple TV, Xbox 360, and PS3 with it and they all work perfectly with it. The touch screen is responsive and the buttons are perfect sized. The favorite TV shows work perfectly, too. I think the Harmony One is a great remote and didn't think they would be able to top it. With the Harmony Touch, they did.

I have been using Harmony remotes for the past 10 years. They were great, then Logitech took over. It seems the software gets dumber and dumber, losing critical advanced programming features, necessary for many installations. This version is their worst. Now they release this 'touch' A touch screen remote is never a good idea, touch screen are great for a device you are interacting with, but a remote you are interacting with the TV, not the remote, so you want your eyes on the TV not the remote. Not intuitive. They also moved the critical and often used DVR buttons to the top, which is not reachable without changing your hand position. Then there is the touch screen, and it's "gestures" There are only five you can program, you can't do this through software but must do it on the remote, again non-intuitive. But it does not default to this state, so you not only have to activate your current activity, you then must hit the gestures button after to activate the touch screen. This touch screen is no iPhone either, it does not work well, it misses a lot of commands, and there is this little help '?' at the bottom that is constantly getting hit taking you to a seemingly endless loop, again not helpful. To be honest this feels like it was designed by people that have never used a remote control, TV or another other audio device, nor an iPhone/touch screen device. It seems like they were trying to complete a checklist of features: touch screen; check, black; check, fewer buttons; check... none of which they do well. And for $250 it is very expensive considering it is still an IR only universal remote, no RF, no bluetooth, no replaceable battery, the software is their worse yet (web based only, with a very poor and buggy interface) This could have worked if they would have: Left all the buttons on the bottom where your fingers are. Made the touch screen gestures default to on, let the user add more gestures (5 is not enough) replaceable battery add RF and bluetooth more than one activity per screen right now you only get one, the screen is larger that the Harmony One but yet they allow much less information. and I am sure a hose of other items... or just listen to your users and not the marketing people that have people to operate the remotes for them. They should have never discontinued the Harmony One. I for one will be looking for another company to supple my universal remotes from this point forward.

    Excellent Easy Software

This is a very good, truly universal remote. It can truly replace your existing remotes (minus few RF-only devices like a Wii or some uncommon DVRs). It has a wide blaster that can usually hit all of your devices in the general direction (with line of sight open or glass). This uses the newer MyHarmony software which is excellent, very polished, and easier to use, which would be great even for someone who isn't as tech savvy. I really like the polished look of the software, intuitive use, speed, and drag-drop to buttons on the remote picture. You can configure everything for any device in the activity. You can add, remove, or reorder soft buttons for any available action from any device in an activity. You can configure any of the physical buttons to any device too. Plus it can learn buttons from your existing remote if you need to teach it one that it doesn't know. The MyHarmony version doesn't seem to know as many buttons as the older software, such as my TV ratio buttons to directly toggle to 16:9 or standard or zoom. The harmony database often knows more buttons than your actual device remote had available, but the old software had even more, at least for my devices. You can also make modifications directly on the remote, which will save back later if you synchronize to the website again so they are not overwritten. The touch screen also offers gestures that you can map to anything, although fairly limited to 5 - tap, swipe up/down/right/left, such as to swipe right to fast forward.

    Untested software

I bought this unit to replace my Harmony 550. The software for it was bullet proof and worked perfectly. This new unit requires new software. It was, apparently, developed by a team that is learning to program. The new software works by temporarily downloading an XML file and running it. (One would think that if it is an XML file it would run under Linux. It does not.) I was trying to use it under Windows. It installed but when running it just hangs or stops half way through. When I called support they said that their software only runs under certain types of internet connections. Their old software works fine under all internet connections! I would not recommend buying new Harmony units until they fix their software or hire people who know how.

This is probably my 5 or 6 remote from harmony. This is by far the worst unit was more difficult to program then previous software versions. After programming it and using it locked up and stopped working after resetting it worked for a half hr then went dead again reset it once again then lights stopped working on remote. returned it and got another harmony 650 I now own 3 of them they are a no frills remote but they work like they are supposed to and don't freeze.
