We love the Surface Pro. The size and weight is perfect for traveling. Definitely recommend the i7 with at least 256MG for great speed and performance - for the non-gamer! Prob needed bigger and faster if you need quick graphics.

Extremely Satisfied, Wish I Purchased Next Upgrade

My main purpose of purchasing this device was from an artistic/writer standpoint in hopes of a device that could meet my needs and expectations while providing more portability than a laptop. For digital art and photo editing, I wanted to be able to use a Pro Stylist directly on a graphic screen vs the Medium Wacom Intuos Art tablet that I was using with my HP laptop. After a long period of searching, I narrowed the search down to a Wacom Cintiq tablet, the latest Ipad Pros, and this latest Microsoft Surface Pro. I ruled out the Wacom Cintiq for the reason that I did not want a graphic tablet that would still need to be connected to my laptop during use as it would prevent it from being portable for my traveling needs. I also wanted to be able to have more functionality for writing, which the Ipads and Surface Pro would allow for both this and the portability that I wanted. I ended up siding with the Surface Pro instead of an Ipad as the Surface Pro is more of a computer interface coupled with a tablet interface whereas the ipad pro only has an IOS tablet interface (in other words, 1) I would have a larger selection of digital art/photo shop software to use on the Surface Pro and 2) I could use the Surface Pro as a portable laptop (easier to transfer and work with files from my laptop to the Surface Pro with Microsoft Windows)). Though the Pen and keyboard is sold separately from the Surface Pro, I will mention in this review that I am satisfied with the functionality of the Pen and the Keyboard. As with any computer stylist, the pen does take some getting use to. It is not like writing on paper, nor is any stylist for any device (at least that I have tried), though I have seen screen covers that are suppose to create a textured surface to make the interface more paper-like. The pen has multiple sensitivity levels and also functions as a quick eraser by flipping the pen to the eraser side like a normal no. 2 pencil. The keyboard is made as a cover to the Surface Pro, includes a mouse track pad, and has back-lit letters. It connects magnetically to the base of the tablet (so it is not a bluetooth connectivity which saves battery life) and folds over to cover the screen. I have also separately purchased a Urban Armor Gear (UAG) case that adds protection to the back and sides of the tablet with a slot to hold the Surface Pro Pen. For writing, Ipads are a little limited (in my opinion) on apps for simple writing that are easy to transfer (without using email, dropbox, evernote, etc) word documents. I wanted to have more of a computer interface for creating documents with my writings without having to use external databases. I know that Apple IOS is improving on this and has in the recent year created apps to help with storing and transferring files, but I wanted something that already had all of that worked out on a solid interface. I sided with Microsoft Windows and Office, knowing that it would be easier to transfer files to/from my Windows laptop to/from the Surface Pro. I chose this Surface Pro with the Intel Core i-7 and 8 GB memory knowing that it would be enough power to run Photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop elements or Corel Paintshop. At the time, I did not want to spend too much on this in case I was not completely satisfied with the tablet, however, now I wish I went ahead and spent the extra $600 - $1,000 for the next upgrade to the i7 - 16 GB with 512 GB hard-drive or the 1 TB hard-drive instead of the 256 GB hard-drive that this one came with. For the reason that I have fallen in love with using this Surfce Pro instead of my HP laptop (don't tell my laptop). I've been using the Surface Pro for other computer projects, however, my primary focus was a portable artist tablet function for On-The-Go art when creativity sets in the moment. Other Pros: -Battery life is fair. If I had to estimate, I can work on it for about 5-8 hours with photo editing software/streaming video and 11 to 13 hours for just writing/web surfing. Of course, I use battery saving settings such as keeping the screen dim, turning wifi and bluetooth off when not in use, and the actual battery saver setting on during most of my use of the tablet EXCEPT when using the photo editing software (have to be able to see vibrant colors, screen needs to be bright for best color quality). -Pen can also be used to take hand written notes, if using Microsoft OneNote it can convert the hand written notes into text and keep sketches in the notes. -External Speaker is good quality sound from the little speakers, perhaps a little better that an Ipad/Iphone, but I prefer to use headphones/bluetooth speakers. -Includes headset jack, kickstand, front-facing camera, rear-facing camera. It states that there is a MicroSD card slot, I have yet to find the slot as it may be under the UAG case that I have on the tablet. -Light weight and reasonable screen size for portability. Cons: -One USB port (3.0). There really is no more room where they could have put another USB port in the slim device. The easy fix is to purchase a simple USB dock to have extra ports when necessary. -No HDMI port. There is a "Mini DisplayPort" that you can purchase a HDMI adapter to connect a second display. I have purchased the adapter and can confirm that it works just to connect as HDMI though I wish I did not need an new cord since I have several HDMI cords floating around the house for my other devices. -Device can get hot when working on the tablet while charging, the case I have vents pretty well from what I can tell. Device is cool when working off battery or when charging on idle. I would definitely recommend this product! Hope that my review helps a fellow shopper!

I adore my new surface pro! I got the i7 8 ram model and battery life is good get around 10 hours with web browsing, multi-tasking work, and listening to music. Its fast processing and very portable. Lightweight to carry and gets job done efficiently! Fun to tinker with windows ink and what it has to offer with Iris graphics. Recommend any tech savvy to get their hands on this. Can't tell you enough how much I love my new laptop for college. I believe i5 model is just as good too! Another thing is that reading etextbooks and news is great in tablet or studio mode.

My concern before buying the Surface Pro

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

So I stressed over changing my computer. I use my computer all day long, 7 days a week with my work and personal life. I need my equipment to be fast and efficient and when I really like my computer, it's difficult to change. My last laptop was an Asus Zenbook. I have really loved that computer - fast and lightweight, but it was getting to be time to change. I had been watching the Surface series for years. I like it, but I just didn't know how well I would adjust to the keyboard and kickstand. I need to be able to type on the fly. I sometimes work when sitting on my couch and I need to be able to plug in and use multiple screens at the office. So with the new Surface Pro - and the Best Buy return policy - I thought what the heck, lets give it a try. My experience - THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST LAPTOPS I HAVE OWNED. The keyboard is great, its flexible in use, and the kickstand opens up more possibilities for places I can work. Right now I have my feet up on my desk with the Surface on my legs typing, the kickstand has the screen set at a perfect angle. It's better than my old clamshell laptop design. I have the Surface Pro i7 model, it works perfectly, never hear the fan running and it stays cool. I plug the computer in and charge it for an hour or two or in the morning and I am good for the day! If your hesitant like I was over the keyboard and kickstand and its use in everyday life - don't be. I wish I had made the jump with the Surface 4 when it came out.

My husband, the computer guy and I spent quite some time researching before deciding to purchase the Surface Pro for my Real Estate business. I like the size, speed and portability most of all, and the arc mouse is very comfortable to use. I'm struggling with One Drive and getting into my full picture gallery in my phone from the tablet. It is only showing a small number of the photos in the gallery. I would like to just be able to go into it the same way I do from my desk top. I need this for a large portion of my work. and hope to solve this issue soon. Other than that I'm very happy with my choice.

I have to say as a retired Microsoft employee (1988 - 1999) I cannot believe that the Microsoft Surface Pro is here. I have looked for something to replace my Samsung tablet and my Sony Vaio computer. Now, I have my main computer, as well as my tablet, all here in one device that is fast, efficient, beautiful and compact design ready to travel or just go outside and work on the patio. Thank you Best Buy for recommending this device for my personal needs.

This computer is fast, responsive, light, and overall exceptional quality. The 4K screen comes on all models and looks wonderful. I love removing the keyboard (not included) and using the computer as a tablet for watching HD videos and movies. The speaker sound quality is very decent for being built in so small. The device holds an 8-hour charge, making it reliable for a day of taking notes at school (as long as you aren’t playing games and whatnot all day in between or have things on in the background). The SSD makes it start up super quick like a phone, rather than after 2-5 minutes for full startup like standard laptops. It wakes from sleep in an instant, like turning on your phone screen. No accessories included and it requires some little niche devices for full use (like a mini display-port to hdmi for screen mirroring) but it’s all worth it. I have no performance issues with the i7, but it is pricier. I would reccomend going all out though as this device will perform well years. 9.8/10

I bought one of these for my husband to use to teach his class. Took it along on an overseas trip so I could get it setup and figure things out for him. Loved it so much I bought another one for myself! My husband is getting used to it (and he's not an easy one to please), using it with the stylus with OneNote to do real time class notes he shows on a screen. It is light in weight, but very sturdy. Advise that when you use it in PC mode, keep the screen double clicked to the keyboard (don't put it into the slightly unsnapped mode). I'm still figuring out some specifics, but can pretty much google "Surface Pro 4 then the question" and get quick answers. Was super easy to set up. Only has 1 USB port, so you might want to get a good USB 3 splitter (I got one for my husband, but I decided to get the flex mouse for mine which is bluetooth, so 1 USB port is plenty). The difference between this newer Surface Pro and the original is like night and day. Screen resolution is great for watching videos, and everything including the cord, and my new mouse are compact. Love this thing (and I don't usually use any words of affection towards computers).

My laptop died several years ago and I have been putting off buying a new one. I tried replacing my laptop with a tablet which proved difficult and I did not want something bulky that I would have to drag everywhere with me. The surface is the perfect in between product for me. It it lightweight and easy to carry around, fits nicely in my backpack! I was not sure what to expect from this product but so far I am very pleased.

Although my first Surface Pro had a motherboard failure, the folks at Best Buy, using the Total Tech Service, were very efficient in getting me a replacement - like immediately! I had no issues with performance prior to the issue and am having no issues with this current Surface Pro. Very versatile and useful. I don't miss my PC or laptop at all. Easy to take hand written notes or typed notes during a meeting. My coworker just bought another Surface product on my recommendation and she really likes it.

To cut a long story short, the Surface Pro will appeal to someone who wants to make the most out of Microsoft software. With tools such as the Surface Pen, the tablet can also let you get creative and provides a formidable competition to the artistic proposition sold by the Apple Pencil. In terms of productivity, I would certainly recommend the Surface Pro over the iPad Pro, as the former comes with a Windows 10 Pro operating system. But just like the iPad Pro, the Microsoft Surface Pro is just the tablet and you will need to purchase the Surface Type Keyboard and the Surface Pen and Surface Arc Mouse all sold separately. This is in addition to the Surface Pro tablet itself. That's quite a huge bill if you ask me. Microsoft should at least have bundled one accessory or better still, gave users a choice on their preferences whether they want a Surface Type Cover or the Surface Pen. This is because, adding up all the prices takes the Surface Pro to an amount in which you can get a much powerful Windows laptop or even the latest from the Mac stable. I guess portability is the key here.
