Excellent product! The install was a breeze. The range is excellent and very reliable. Have not lost internet signal since I bought it (9 months).

Defective Product

I bought this today and attempted installation. I was unsuccessful. I’m not sure if the fact that this box had been previously opened had anything to do with this defective product.
The installation seemed to be going smoothly until I had to enter my WiFi password for the extender. “Use the same password that you use for your WiFi router.”
I did this. Again, again and again. “Incorrect password.” No, it’s not an incorrect password.
So I start viewing posts about similar password problems and they suggest resetting the extender. I hit the reset for “7 seconds” and try the entire process once more.
Same password error message.
I give up. Back to Best Buy for a refund.

Worked great for a couple weeks

I bought this item about a month ago. After setting it up it worked great. I am glad I waited to review it because after a little over two weeks, it shows connected and full signal strength, however it doesn't ever get off the spinning wheel wait for connection. I rebooted it, rebooted my wireless router and all my phones and computers, but it still don't ever connect.

Returned it! Did not like having to use an app to set it up.

On first set up I had to have this thing right next to the router for it to get the signal. Finally got it working, but a couple months later our internet carrier did repairs on our local bandwidth, then all of a sudden it wouldn't pair with our router. Tried everything using Nighthawk app (it would tell me I need to be connected to the extender, and then tell me I was connected to the extender--great! Thanks! Won't pick up the router but my computer does from farther away.) Tried resetting to factory specs TWICE and still the same. Not at all impressed with this $100+ device.

This worked perfectly on the first time that I used this but if you set up the extender in a new location you will be forced to update the security protocol through a 3rd party that will charge you $200 for the service. So if you buy this make sure you have no plans to move.

Didn't work

Purchased to use for ps4 but ps4 keeps dropping the signal tried all arrangements possible. Did not work.
Tried to return to best buy but apparently I purchase too many items and have a high return/exchange profile so now they won't let me return or exchange a defective item. It's funny they never said I bought too much items. Maybe if the electronics you sold WORKED I wouldn't have to return them. But seriously I buy stuff there multiple times a week! This is junk service.

Buy something else. Instructions and app are awful. Product names don’t match instructions. I see no manual that matches current product. The extender seems to be connected but app tells me it isn’t. I log in somewhere it mentions and there is says extender is connected.

I'm sure this works well for others but not for me. I'm in an old building where I have to rely on a weak CoxWiFi hotspot and this doesn't boost it all that well. The app is helpful

You need technical experience to use this device.

We purchased from Best Buy for about $90.00 dollars. Device set up was ok, but once connected to internet, we started getting "no internet" shown on WiFi network. Went onto NetGear forum and found out that some modems (Spectrum?) (Technicolor) don't support extenders, and that I need to check the Extender's firmware - so if you can do that ( I am not a technie) this device may work for you. For me, it's going to the garage as a door stop.

This thing drops it like its hot. That is when we are speaking of wifi. Tried it in both configuration for weeks at a time to give each one a chance. Access point is wired from router and still drops access to router but is a bit faster if you are stuck with this. As an extender you lose 80 percent of your download speeds. Pretty sad for 90.00 range extender. My original review is under makah21

Connect the two devices was easy enough however password protection should have been easier. I found the set up to be a royal pain and took much too long given I already had a Netgear router. Although it is hooked at this time unsecured, the signal in not better and I have tried a couple of locations, it did not live up to it's billing at the premium price I paid.

Bricked by Firmware

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The product itself worked just fine, until it told me that I needed to do a firmware upgrade. Upon finishing the upgrade the extender bricked itself, and wouldn't you know it, right after the warranty died. Apparently the new business plan for netgear is to break your equipment and hope you buy more.
