Set up was pretty straight forward. Product works well. Definitely see improved connectivity within the house. Tried the model EX6 but it didn't provide much improvement so went with the higher cost model

Easy to set up and very fast. I’m getting great coverage everywhere in my house now and at the spec speeds. The WPS and WiFi name syncing is great - one seamless, powerful network. Triband is the only way to go!!

Bought one of these to compliment the Nighthawk X6 R8000 which is located downstairs in my house to get reliable coverage in the upstairs portion of the home and on the opposite side from the R8000's location. Mainly because my son is a gamer and there is no good way to get a physical ethernet cable to his room and wireless (2.4/5GHz) was marginal in his bedroom upstairs. Installed and configured. Placed this unit in his bedroom and connected his PC to this unit via ethernet cable. His speeds are no different from my Mac or Linux machines that are hardwired to the R8000 directly. Solved juniors gaming issues remotely without cat5/6 which I cannot get to his room from the main R8000 router.

First and foremost, I used to be a huge Netgear fan. After ditching a previous competitor, I sought a product and company that I could stand behind. Netgear was that company. I purchased their routers with no issues and after I purchased a larger home, I found some dead spots. I started with the power line series of extenders until this bad boy came out. I was pleasantly surprised by the speed and coverage this offered. At the time of purchase, my Internet connection was in my basement. All went well for the first three months. Almost immediately I noticed some of my devices losing connection to the network. I noticed the 169.x.x.x address and knew that there was a problem with the extender. I disconnected the extender and immediately was able to connect to my network. I powered on the extender again and the devices were able to connect with no issues; I used the Genie app to determine which Netgear device my devices were connecting to. I thought maybe it was a glitch, until it wasn’t. The next time this happened, I checked for the latest firmware and started some digging. I upgraded to the latest firmware and things go south from here. Apparently you have to factory reset the device after a firmware upgrade. Ok, odd, but I did that. Once upgraded, the issue seemed to be resolved. Two days later, the issue resurfaced. At this point I was near the end of the phone support, so I called up support and spent at least two days with them. We went through moving my extender closer to the main router. Then I even went ahead to move my router to the main level of my home, which is the most ideal location anyway, and moved the extender to my basement; again closer to the router. After all this I told the support person that I believe the router is faulty and I need a new one. It took nearly an hour to get the support person to agree, even after escalating twice. Received the replacement extender a week or so later and tried again. After initial setup and recovery of my settings, everything look good. This time, a week later, the same issues started up again. I called up Netgear again, not wanting to waste any time, and the person on the call told me that I needed to hardcore my IP address. I immediately started balking at this because things like my mobile devices and laptops travel with me and connect to different wireless networks. While I am technical, my wife is not and I cannot expect her to clear her IP address every time she connects to another WiFi network. I agreed to the support rep and continued discussing this blatant oversight in how the extender handles DHCP. This seemed to have worked better and when I had the IP address hardcoded on my devices, the connection was stable and speeds were fantastic. A few months later, this is where I just threw my hands up, the extender would just lose connectivity to the Internet. It was still showing up and connected to the router, but the Internet was unavailable. I unplugged my extender and all started working again. Plugged the extender back in and all was fine for almost 24 hours. I started digging again and found that more and more people are seeing this same behavior, Internet loss until the unit is rebooted. Someone actually is coming up with a plan to reboot his extender everyday just so this doesn’t happen. If you want to live with this behavior and enjoy powering things off and on every day, like the 1990s, then this extender is the model for you. I would recommend saving yourself the headache and find another alternative. I gave this two starts because when it does work, it is pretty solid. Every month or so I still hold onto hope that a new firmware comes out that will make this the rockstar this extender was meant to be, but I essentially have a $300 paperweight.

I have tried for several years to obtain good wireless coverage to all areas of my home. The equipment that the cable company supplies is not high quality. I purchased the Netgear Nighthawk X6S router and I was able to greatly increase my coverage but still needed better coverage. I later purchased the Netgear Nighthawk X6S Mess Extender and my speed increased 3-4 times. Prior to the extender I was getting speeds to the far end of the house of 100-150mbps. After I installed the Nighthawk X6S my speed increased to 300-400 mbps. Finally able to achieve the full benefit of my wifi.

We bought this to extend our wifi to the other side of house. It works great most of the time but occasionally drops the signal and shows a red light for low connectivity. We primarily use it for Netflix connection and for cell phone wifi in the main room of home. Stylish and it works.

This mesh wifi extender works just about as well as I had hoped. It greatly improved signal strength throughout my house and made streaming from every room that much better. The only reason I did not give it a full 5 stars is because there are still a few dead spots in the house that it did not fix. Overall, I am very happy with this product.

This thing has been the best ever ex-8000 never loses signal the 5G goes really far I believe it's a dedicated line (and I'm in the basement) ... UNTIL THE FIRMWARE UPDATE ..(enter dramatic music ) it pretty much destroyed it. the 224 Update . now nothing works right! Network is supposed to roam seamlessly ...but now it's split it up into 4 SSIDs. 2 guest networks w/ 2.4&5 - 2 original networks 2.4&5 ( Xfinity which has one name for both bands.). Don't fix if not broke ,wish I never got that email. Not happy.

This is a powerful unit. Word of caution -- I set mine up using the nighthawk app which started out great. Had it all set up then asked did I want to do a firmware update. This resulted in my unit being bricked -> then had to factory reset and reinstall firmware via Ethernet connection to my PC. I was able to recover this by using a lot of help videos on the website. Recommendation: Set up the unit using ethernet connection and only update the firmware via ethernet connection directly to your computer. There is a handy youtube video on how to do this by netgear. I would not recommend the mobile app for this reason.

If you just want to set it and forget it with your current network and don’t do any kind of network managing, this does the job. If you’re in need of two of these, it’s best to just buy any other complete mesh systems as they will be cheaper or around the same price. The Nighthawk Mesh X6S pretty much does what it’s advertised to do — Extends your Wi-Fi via mesh and provides one Wi-Fi name. Setup via App or WPS is the best way since, for me, desktop base setup wouldn’t even finish because I would get a Error 400 message(forgot the actual message but it had 400 in it) after it would ask me if I want one Wi-Fi name. But maybe I’m getting that error because my Nighthawk R8000 2.4/5ghz were already under one name. If getting extended Wi-Fi coverage is all you need and set it and forget is what you want, then this is good enough. If you have a fairly large home or at least 3,000sqft but with interference issues and need two of these, best just get an Orbi RBK50 since it’ll be cheaper. That said, I like to manage my network and know which devices are connected. I have relatives in and out all the time and I’m usually buying some piece of tech. Device recognition on this EX8000/Mesh X6S is non-existent. Everything is unknown. Looking at my attached devices on the main router, everything connected to the extenders were recognized as extenders. If you change one of the names/icon of a device connected to an extender, everything on that extender will not have that name and icon. Really frustrating. So after just one day of having two of these, and also testing a Linksys Velop WiFi-6 I’ll be going back to Orbi RBK50 I had. Each has its’ problems/issues, but the Orbi was the least and tolerable

I have had this extender for about a week or so. I was running a double router in the house to try to get full coverage, but something was just not right and trying to keep up with which network we were on was becoming silly (especially if you are running multiple smart home items). Installed and was connected (running a Netgear X10 router) in 5 min tops. Ran a speed test in all areas of the home(4000sqft) 500mbps+ on all capable wireless devices all over the house, and Gig speed for all wired. Do it, you need it.

My wife bought this extender for our home office because our router's wifi range downstairs was not strong upstairs. After installing the Nighthawk router extender, and hard wiring are computers to it, we have had absolutely no internet issues. This device is worth every penny! If you have a two story home and your office is upstairs, this product is a must!!! Easy setup and peace of mind knowing your internet strength is strong and reliable!!!

This actually a step better than the router with which it is paired and that router is not even a year old! The range is much better that the wall-socket extenders and you can wire other devices to it which makes it great if you need it for your entertainment center across the house.

Probably had this extender for about a month. It looks nice. Set up wasn't too bad. And seems to work okay. I would be happy with it, save for one fact. It seems like the Roku, which is only ten feet away, claims not to have any internet connection more often than with our previous extender, which got moved to another room upstairs. And that seems strange, because my phone will have an internet connection working fine, so I know that the wifi signal is there. I try rebooting the Roku and/or the Nighthawk and one or the other usually fixes it. I don't know if Best Buy would let me return it now and the store isn't even open, so I'm just living with it. Don't know what the problem might be.

It was easy to set up and it works great. Although on the pricey end, it is worth the money since it extends the wifi better than lower end products. I bought different extenders at different prices and was not satisfied with them. This one was perfect for me.

I have lots of extenders but this one beats them all. One thing is that you can you use just one username not lot other extenders your have to be different and your wifi around the house have to cater to that one extender to make it work. Speed is never a question...I get 455 mbps down and 22 mbps up. Without it I will get 30 up and 5 down. It covers my 4000 sq ft home without no problem. I am used Netgear Nighthawk x 10 and that bad pushes out. Coverage wise it is ok!!!

This is the second Nighthawk Mesh X6S WI-FI mesh extender that I have purchased. Set up is quick and simple. The current Nighthawk Mesh Extender works very well in the lower part of the built in entertainment center with the TIVO and Roku player. No more buffering issues! Expecting great results from the second Netgear Mesh WI-FI extender to be installed in the front bedroom to boost signal from Netgear Nighthawk router in the back of the house.

I’ve had this product for more than a year now and I haven’t had any problems with it. It has expanded our WiFi coverage to the outside of our house and works at least 40 feet from our front door, and has also expanded coverage to the game room floor below. It never needs to be reset and has always worked as advertised.
