  • Super slow focus and hardly ever got the focus right and it felt it's stuck and can't pass certain range until I manually twist the focus ring to adjust that stuck up area.Andy

For the price this is a great lens and I'd strongly recommend it over the f/1.8 version for both sharpness and distortion reasons. The distortion with the lens is easily corrected in Photoshop or Lightroom.

Wide open, as with many, this lens is very soft. CA is extremely high. In studio at f11 it's extremely sharp with good color and contrast. I shot it with a D7100, so is probably much better full frame. Good for the money, but I find the 1.8 to be all around sharper.

Although a bit expensive is a great lens. Great in low light and I love the bokeh it achieves!

One of the best lens deals when it goes on sale and Best Buy has it as cheep as it gets. Fast prime and is better than I expected. I thought maybe I got a good copy but there's a lot of videos on YT that show it's potential.

This is one of the best prime lenses Anyone can use for a first time prime lens user. Also if you are a student like me, this will save you a lot of money and get high quality images from nikon dslr's. Although sony lenses are more of the high technology generation, the nikon Af-s 1.4g lens is one comparison that will not disappoint.

I was hesitant to buy this lens, however I am very happy that I did! This lens is excellent for portraits, and has the ability to achieve the bokeh needed for amazing portraits. This lens is also great for low-light areas, as I used it in a museum with little light and still achieved great photos (with a little trial and error).

This is a great value compared to the $1600 lens! This lens takes just as sharp photos as the more expensive one. Beautiful bokeh as well

I previously owned the 50 1.8 and wanted the shallower depth of field. I didn't notice too much of a difference. It is a great lens, but I would recommend saving your money and getting the 1.8. Even better save your money and get the sigma art lens.

The Nikon 50mm 1.4g lens is an excellent choice for any SLR user. It is a little heavier than the Nikon 50mm 1.8g, but the weight is balanced by it's exceptional light gathering capabilities. You can shoot without a flash indoors even at night. The 1.4 aperture also provides excellent depth of field control with awesome bokeh effects. The price is great for a lens of this quality and features. Metal mount, rear seal gasket, and internal silent wave motor focusing system are a few of the premium features you'll appreciate with this lens. A little more expensive than the excellent Nikon 50mm 1.8g, the 50mm 1.4g offers excellent value for long term ownership. Every SLR owner should have a 50mm lens and this is an excellent choice! Once you use the 50mm, you'll find it will be your go to lens for any shooting situation. I use mine 90% of the time...

Highly recommend this lens to beginners. The pictures turned out to be clear, sharp and has great color rendition. I have no problem shooting in the light or dark areas. This product is worth the money.

After months of research, I finally decided on this product from Best Buy. Why Best Buy, because there is found the "Best" price; and although the lens was not in the store, they were more than happy and took the time while I had them switch from screen to screen while I checked the specs vs the price. On top of that, they offered free shipping to my address of choice and it arrived on time. I was surprised that I didn't receive any member Points for the purchase; yet they still remain my "1st Stop 2 Shop" when it comes to my electronic and photography needs for my business. I'm relatively new to the world of true photography, so the 50mm lens is taking a little getting used to. I tried working with it for kids photos, and have to figure out the "sweet spot." I have a D7000 body and am still learning that, too. Yet despite my newbie status this lens has given me some great images inside and out. I'm very glad I picked it up!

I love this lens. I have had many lenses in my collections over the years but none have been the sharp or this fast. On top of that the bokeh is great! This is the way lenses should be. A great portraiture lens for DX bodies. Great job Nikon!

I purchased this lens as an upgrade to my 1.8G FX lens. I was looking for the professional 1.4 look and it's there. This lens is a little heavier/meatier than it's 1.8 counterpart. Picture quality is great, I'd say it tends to shoot a little more on the warmer side than the 1.8. Now, I have seen reviews online that the 1.8 is technically sharper. I haven't personally done any side-by-side comparisons, but if you're shooting at 1.4 it's going to be a little soft. If it's between this lens and the 1.8 I think it comes down to how much you want to spend. If you've got the money, go with this lens. If you're on a budget, the 1.8 is a great lens.

I gave away my 50mm f/1.8G Nikon to a friends kid interested in photography about 6 months ago. I had missed that lens ever since. When I upgraded, I decided to go with the 1.4 instead. It is no where near the worth the jump for cost. Get the cheaper lens. I shoot a D850 and there is honestly so little difference in my shots that I kick myself for not saving the money every time I load up this lens. Don't get me wrong, this is a very nice lens. If I never had the 1.8, I would probably love it. But, comparing the two just makes this thing way overpriced. Don't do what I did.
