Customers find value in the D500 DSLR Camera's superior image quality, fast frame rate, and excellent low-light performance, frequently praising its ability to capture sharp images even in challenging conditions. However, some users noted concerns regarding the lack of a built-in flash, battery life, and the cost and availability of XQD memory cards. The camera's weight was also mentioned as a potential drawback by a few users.

Basically if you are looking for a professional grade DSLR but you don't want to spend more than 3 times the amount on its bigger brother the D5 than this is the best camera on the market. I'm not a professional and I was in between the D7200 which is an older model but obviously less expensive and I truly wanted the D500 but it was a little out of my budget and I'm so glad I did because I love everything about this camera. If you truly love taking beautiful images and aren't afraid of putting the time in to learn the operations of this camera than this will be a home run out of the box as it has been for me!!

So I bought a D7500 bundled with a couple of lenses and some other stuff from Costco. It was a really nice camera. After using that camera for a while and continuing to read camera reviews, I decided to return that bundle and just buy the D500 body from Best Buy. I did this because every review listed the D500 as the "best" DSLR you can buy today. Well, I usually like the best, so why not?
In another lifetime I owned a Nikon D80, but the shutter stopped working on that so I went into "strictly iPhone camera" mode for a while. That old D80 took a lot of great family photographs which I now cherish. Since I spent a bundle on this D500, I decided to recycle some old equipment from the D80 ... such as my trusty 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens and my SB-800 Speedlight. The lens is a great "all-around" lens and has worked great on my camera so far. The Speedlight works fine, too, but haven't needed it much since this camera does so great in low-light.
Now ... I'm not a photography genius and I am someone you can usually find using the "auto" settings. But wait ... there is no such thing on this bad boy. Well, it did take some investment of time ... mostly watching YouTube videos ... but I think I've now got some of it figured out. And it turns out there are still some ways to get the camera to do things for you, aka "auto," they just don't exactly call it that and designate a dial or button for said function. Probably to maintain the image as a photographer's camera LOL.
Anyhow, the pictures this thing takes are stunning. FPS ... when cranked up ... sounds like a machine gun. Put on the right settings and you will freeze every step of your son's next drive to the hole! Snapbridge software where pictures transfer to iPhone right away is pretty cool.
Aside from camera, I've jumped into some of the Adobe software for post-processing and that provides another learning curve all its own.
Bottom line ... great camera ... but expect you will have some learning to do if you are coming in from the cold or the dark ages. But I think you already knew that! ;)

I have had several Nikon DX cameras n was learning new things all the time! This D500 gets u as close to an FX (as much as I can imagine) as u could get!! I have a d3100 n d7100 n it has been gr8 for my photography b7t this d500 blows everything away! I have to learn it all over again! Shooting at iso 1600 n 3200 is done now at 800/1600 n w 6400 is amazing! Having the buttons for wb, mode, qual on the left n easy to get to, w the iso button by the shutter release makes it all simple to do while looking thru the view finder! I'm learning more n am having a blast w this camera! The special deal of getting the power pack with it, I can burst shoot 200 shots n get gr8 photos!! It's worth every penny/dollar!!

I have been waiting for this camera from Nikon for quite a while! For many of us "advanced amateurs" and "semi-pro's" this camera fills a void and is reasonably priced for those of us who can't quite get to the Nikon D5 price level.
In fact the Nikon D500 is basically a D5 in the Dx format. The quality of your photo's are just amazing. At 20.9MP with no Low Pass Filter, the sharpness and depth of field are just incredible. I shoot product photography, artwork and jewelry and the details this camera picks up compared to the D300s are night and day!
Even my friends who have the D800 are so impressed with the focus and sharpness of the photo's plus the 4K video capability want one!

It was a choice between this and the D850. This won because of the higher shutter speed and the lower price. Haven't had any issues shooting in lower light. Love it so far!

This camera is a BEAST! Great for every type of shooting environment, subject, weather, low light & no light and skill level. It has a slight learning curve and a "little" weight (that's probably more attributed to the 18-140MM lens I used solely). The last camera I'll probably purchase.

The Best Wildlife Camera on the Market

This camera is insanely fast and crisp. I noticed an immediate difference when I upgraded even with the lower end lens. My followers on Instagram have notices a huge jump in the value of my pictures as well. I will say that the camera is not easy to learn for novice people. I myself am still learning a ton. Also if you really want to take advantage of it you have to upgrade your lens which I am in the process of doing. Finally it is not good in low lighting situation. Do not expect in focus or sharp images unless you are using something like a tripod while shooting in these conditions. However, these things are minute and you will not be disappointed.

I'm interested in taking wildlife photos. I couldn't afford the top of the line Nikon but wanted to camera that had the fps I would need. After doing a lot of research (pros and cons) I settled on the D500. Wow! The first time I took it out, I was impressed.
The camera has a sturdy build and is weather-sealed. It also feels comfortable in my hand. It is a DX format (i.e. 'crop' sensor) with about 24MP; fine for the size prints I will most likely make.
I haven't had a chance to test it out in low light so I don't yet know at what ISO level the noise will be unbearable.
I'm glad I purchased this camera and would buy it again.

I bought this camera for the 10 fps burst mode, since I do a lot of wildlife photography. Also, the high ISO capability is great in low light situations. You really can't go wrong with this camera. Besides that, it was on sale and came with a free battery grip.

This is an amazing camera. I was thinking about going full frame but couldn't afford to get new glass as well as a new camera. This was a great compromise! So happy with this camera it is AMAZING! The ISO capability is crazy awesome in low light! It seems to fit just right in your hand too. I previously had a d7000. To move to to the d500 has been just awesome. Everything about it is about 10 time better. Very happy with this purchase. Highly recommended!!!!!!

This is with out a doubt a superior camera to anything in the canon line as well as nikon.
Switched from the canon 7dmkii over to this and I have to say it did take a little while getting used to all the location of the control.
Settings on this are unlimited and outstanding.
Picture quality is the best I have ever seen from a crop sensor and a lot if not all of the canon line cameras.
I can't say enough good things about this but I will say this and leave it at that.
The auto focus system on this blows the 7dmkii out of the water..

I purchased this camera Mai lay for sports action but also use it for portraiture, landscapes, and weddings. I use professional FX lenses on it and it is just AWESOME!!!! This is the best DSLR I have ever shot with (that includes some of the $6,000 + models) and the buffer seems limitless. The autofocus is lightning fast and all of the controls are set up as a pro camera and it is easy to use. Make sure you pick up a Lexar QXD 2.0 card because the SD card slot doesn't do this camera justice.

Just what I needed! Perfect semi-pro body with a fast shutter. Interchangeable lenses make it an efficient tool of the trade. I upgraded from the D300s, and although there isn't a CF slot there's still an SD. Haven't used the alternate card yet (need to buy one or two). Shot a wedding with it recently. Photo quality was on point. All-in-all, proud of my purchase.
