After much research and hands on experience at my Best Buy, I decided to purchase the Nikon Z7. While I am still learning how to unleash the power and potential of this camera, so far I am thrilled! The fact that I am easily use all my F mount lenses with this camera is a real plus, especially since I like to photograph wildlife and need a good zoom lens.

Amazing Images - No Autofocus On Some Lenses

    |
    Posted .
Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.

I've had this camera for a few days and can't say enough about the image quality. Probably the best Nikon has produced. My only complaint so far is that there is no autofocus motor built into the camera body like I had on my D610. What that means is that my D series Nikon lenses lost their auto focus capability. So now I have to work on my focusing skills, which is a challenge with my old eyes. So if you have D series or older lenses with no autofocus motor in the lens, you will have to manually focus with those lenses.

This is the best camera I have ever owned. The pictures are great. we used it on a trip out to Moab, UT to take night photos. 1st time doing that too. I was given the camera setting to use by a friend in order to shoot the milky way. ISO was supposed to be 1800, but I made the mistake of setting it at 180. Well, the camera shot was awesome at 180 ISO. Hmm... not sure how that worked, but it did. Day shots and low-light shots are great/fantastic. I have noticed that the bright light shots are too light on auto. It performs much better on manual with some slight adjustments to tone down the pic. Keep in mind that the older or cheaper DX lenses don't really work on this camera. I bought a 28mm to 300mm Nikon VR lense that is perfect. Shot the night sky with a 1.8f 35 mm lens.

    Excellent first MILC for Nikon!

I own a Nikon D850 and have a bunch of expensive lenses, so getting the Z7 with the FTZ adapter was something I was looking forward to. It took a couple days of testing to get really comfortable with the Z7 because some things are different from the DSLRs, but many things are the same, so it isn't a completely new experience if you have used a Nikon DSLR from the last 10 years. Most of the controls are there, they just may be in different menu locations. The displays, including the EVF are amazing. Seeing the exposure in the EVF before you take the shot helps so much in manual mode as the meter may under/over expose a little when you really want to nudge the exposure the other way, I like to get as close as possible to the final image from the camera, even though I always shoot RAW (NEF). So far, I took both my D850 and the Z7 to Las Vegas with the idea that I would focus on the Z7 and use the D850 if required. Well, I didn't even pull the D850 out of my bag. I used my Z7 the whole time and never found that I was lacking anything. That said, I would probably still use my D850 for a lot of the fast action images like sports, at least for now. I don't think I'm comfortable enough with the Z7 for extremely fast action shots.

I originally purchased the Z6 and I was not happy with that camera. And I took it back in and exchanged it for the Z7 that has better MP. I have shot with this camera and it is good for video it is good for standing still but there needs to be a little bit of work done to focus from the back screen as it doesn’t have like a vibration control and the pictures do not come out sharp while being handheld.

Powerful yet compact full frame camera

I’ve shot Nikons for early two decades. This is my first mirrorless camera after switching over from DSLRs. Like many who make the switch, I was skeptical. However, it’s a powerful full frame camera and compact, yet familiar in the hands an particularly when it comes to button placement and functionality.

    I love my Z7!

    Posted .

I am a professional photographer for over 9 years now. I have been shooting with the Nikon D3s, and the Nikon D3x. Shooting with the Z7 is a joy! The auto focus is spot on, and manual focus is fine as well. I looked at Sony, Canon, Panasonic mirror less cameras and I decided to go with the Z7. I also purchased the 24 70 2.8 s to go along with the Z and I must say it is the best lens I have ever used next to my Leica Sumicron f2. I am so very happy with my purchase!

I purchased this camera while upgrading all of my equipment. It look so long to decide if this one was the right one for me as there still is not much information out about this particular camera. I believe I made the right decision and I love this camera. I shoot portraits, family, senior, etc photography with this camera. I am glad I chose this... Nikon for the win once again!

My first step into getting a mirrorless camera. As far as the quality of images and functions the camera has, there's very little left that you need. The only thing I'm still getting use to is having the viewfinder shut-off after a few seconds. I may extend the time, but that will also use more battery. My other camera is a D850 so the jump in quality wasn't that apparent; but the Z7 is much lighter!

So I'm using this Z7 with a lens that I bought in 1968....46 megapixels. I show you but it's too big! I don't have a cpu lens so I have to focus it myself. The camera changes it's speed so whatever opening I select the exposure is perfect. I am having a blast with the binary picture control.

Wow I couldn't be more satisfied with this purchase. Nikon never get it wrong, the Z7 is absolutely great, wonderful resolution, great finishing and stile. This is not a camera for beginners, don't spend that much $ if your not ready for... Nikon have several other DSLR options that are very good... but if you're ready GET IT because its great, in my opinion the best camera out there.
