    Almost a robot vacuum

I've had this robot vacuum for about a month now and during this time I've used it fairly extensively so I can evaluate it. The following are my thoughts about the vacuum; Pros. 1. The app offers a very decent amount of control options for the vacuum which I appreciate 2. The vacuum for the most part does clean following the line by line pattern as advertised, but not always 3. I like the three suction levels option available as well 4. I like that it can self-empty and resume cleaning in between completing a cleaning task 5. I also like the strips used for restricting access to select locations as needed I think it's safe to say the vacuum does that it's stated it can do. However, even with the most recent update it doesn't do some things satisfactorily. So now the cons... Cons 1. Although its noted that it could take a couple of runs to fully map a home, in reality however, it's seems to be a little more complicated than is implied. For instance, I watched the robot repeatedly over a few days attempt to map the house (over 2000 sq ft) and each time it would eventually run low on battery before the mapping is completed. Expectedly, it returns to the dock to recharge but only to start all over again rather than resume from the area it previously stopped. The implication is that it ends up running low on battery prior to completing the mapping. 2. The initial map it finally came up with after failing to fully cover the whole house looked nearly nothing like anything I could relate with. I joked about the floor plan presented looking like some kind of transformer alien robot outline. I deleted a few maps and started again before it finally came up with some floor plan that had a semblance of my floor plan. But even then it left out about three rooms. This is where it gets frustrating. I thought it would simply update the missing rooms once it finally decided to cover thos as well but even with access doors wide open, it did not enter to vacuum any of them. It turns out, as I interpreted it, that it considered the house mapped and would not make any changes. So, I deleted and started again. The next map was not nearly as good and it somehow turned a square-shaped room into a triangle. And sure enough when I watched it vacuum the room, rather than follow a straight path, it moved along a diagonal line covering only a third of the room that had previously been fairly accurately captured in the previous map. 3. When resuming from charging in-between a given cleaning task, besides not always reliably actually resuming where it stopped, I feel it's a waste of energy that the vacuum function actually starts as it leaves the doing stationrrther than as it approaches where it should be resuming the cleaning run.given that it takes energy to charge it, and which the owner pays for, it's not an efficient way to use energy. 4. The next issue has been raised by other users and the explanations provided by the support folks at Shark does not address my observation - even with no obstruction etc, why does the robot just choose not to either go into some spaces or randomly fail to go from wall to wall? I have also seen it just push through the magnetic strip that ought to signal "Do not cross". 5. Whenever I've specified a location to clean I still don't know why it first attempts to clean some area around the docking station before moving on to the specified location. 6. I currently do not have an accurate map of the house but after several attempts I just got tired and have been using what I have at present. I feel it makes no sense that the map, once created, cannot be updated to truly capture the floor plan more accurately over time. It seems the only option at the moment is to delete the map and start again. This seems like a waste of time and energy that is actually paid for. A simple solution might just be to either allow updates to existing maps or allow for the user to determine when they think the floor plan is satisfactory. Maybe even come up with a way to let the robot know to make extra effort to accurately capture a given location by being more exploratory within the area. When I've used the magnetic strip to try to force it to explore previously unrepresented areas, even when it does go to such places, it never reflectsthe new areas on the already created map. I imagine this is not the experience of every other owner of this particular robot, but this issues exist regardless and I hope they get looked into. Regardless, I believe the machine has potential and I've been told it's improved markedly over time following updates. And yes, I would recommend it, albeit at a lower price point.

Great so far, and works well with our shaggy dog. About the only downfall is that you can only program ONE run a day. If they could software upgrade for multiple runs per day, that would be great. Oh and the ability to turn off the jingle that runs with it. The one when its complete reminds me too much of the State Farm jingle.

Very good product. This vacuum does a great job cleaning. Like that it returns to its base to automatically empty itself. Havec2 cats and sweeps up their hair.

True to my previous experiences with Shark, the hardware is great but the software sucks. This vacuum is pretty quiet considering how good the suction is. It's not quiet as strong as the Neato D7 (which I returned because holy moly was it loud) but it is much, much quieter. The D7 is worlds better in terms of programming though. This robot is seriously dumb. It gets stuck on the most obvious things (the base of my fan, my bathroom scale) and it's mapping is a joke. It takes it almost as long to find it's way back to it's base as it spends cleaning, just going in circles and getting stuck. Sometimes it dies before or makes it back. I actually don't mind that stuff so much, but the app is really annoying. Sometimes it says my vacuum is still on the base when it's cleaning, which means I can't control it. Sometimes it just erases my cleaning schedule. Overall, it's cheaper for a reason, but all of its issues are things that I can deal with for the price difference. If you're thinking about saving money by getting the version that doesn't self-empty: I wouldn't. The bin is very small, and for my 1000 ft apartment it has to stop and empty itself every day before it's done. I do have a dog though.

I have not had this product long, but so far I love it. Some features that I drew me to get this over a Roomba was the fact the base station isn't a bag. You just empty the base into the trash and put it right back. So easy to use. The app is also very user friendly along with set up. Only con is I had to create a guest wifi in 2.5 to connect, but that did not take but an extra 5 minutes. The map took a couple of tries to get all rooms, but it fully vacuums our 1600 sq ft home. Also, this vacuum is way quieter than our old one.

I love this vac! I have a dog that sheds terrible, I have a back problem and vacuuming or sweeping or sweeping my hardwood floors would always leave me in pain. I run my Shark daily and it picks up all the dog hairs! It works great on my bedroom carpet, too. I do have to empty the bin every couple of weeks. It isn't loud so I can watch TV or carry on a conversation while it is doing it's job. I am so glad that I purchased this vacuum.

I was emotionally attached to my wonderful Robert. He cleaned my floors like he would serve a meal on them, and learned his way around fast. He did a very great job all around. That is until, I deleted the map of my home to re-map and had nothing but issues afterwards. Robert became ill and never would remap, he didn’t love me anymore. I tried factory resetting him and he went completely nuts. Disconnected from wifi and wouldn’t go back onto it, would not go back to the base for a bin empty, he was miserable. But seriously, it was my first smart robot vacuum purchase and it lived up to my expectations for a few days until I was getting hardware/software problems that progressively got worse as I tried to fix them lol. Not enough information on the Internet. I ended up returning it but I will never forget my Robert. Just my luck tho.

We had the IRobot vacuum and it died after about a year. We purchased this vacuum assuming since it was quite a bit cheaper it would likely not work quite as well. We were wrong. It cleans very well and is significantly quieter then the IRobot vacuum. I like the fact that we do not have to buy the disposable bags any longer. I should have purchased this one first. I always thought Shark was a lesser brand and I opted for the more expensive vacuums. Shark has earned my business.

We replaced a Roomba with this because I couldn't stand how loud it was. This unit is quiet and cleans very well. It is a bit taller so it gets stuck more than the Roomba did, but it at least notifies you with the app instead of finding out a few hours later that it got stuck somewhere. The "find me" feature also helps.

It does a great job once it gets through picking up the hair (Daughter has long hair and we have cats). Had to clean off the roller about 10 times for just the living room. I like the fact that it empties itself and automatically returns, charges and then resumes cleaning.

I have hard floors, a couple area rugs, two Siberian huskies, and 6 cats…. So when I tell you this is the best purchase we have ever made, that is an understatement! We previously had an iRobot roomba e5 and this shark is a million times better. Spend the extra money and get this one that empties itself and has a way better cleaning pattern. The roomba always got stuck on everything. The shark has never got stuck. Great purchase!

I bought this item from bestbuy in October with a hope as promised on the box to have no hair wrap for long hair. It worked fine regarding that until 2 weeks ago when it started to have hair tangled around the brushroll every single time and the robot will stop working until it gets cleared! so basically I have to tend the robot few times in each run! The other problem is that it is almost two months and it hasnt made a map yet!!! What a waste of money. I contacted shark today and they say the only thing they can do is to replace it and since I have purchased it from bestbuy they wont give my money back and even if the replacement has an issue they will just troubleshoot and replace it again!! Is this a joke or what?!

So far so good. The mapping seems to be a bit all over the place but eventually everywhere gets covered and the suction power seems to be good. Be prepared though, this thing is LOUD. It’s got a pretty normal volume when vaccuuming, but when docking and clearing out the bin, it is very loud.

I have run the IQ R100AE about 10 times and it's still only about 50% of the way toward creating a complete map for our floorplan of about 3000 sq. ft.. The vac has had a lot of trouble finding the two hallways off of our family room as well as the guest bedrooms that are down those halls. There is no means provided by the Shark smartphone app to manually force the vac to go find those missed hallways and rooms. The only solution I have found is when the vac gets near an entrance to one of those hallways is to use my foot to block the vac's path so as to get it to (finally after a few tries) head down the hallway or into the room that the vac's AI based mapping function seems unable to find on its own. The Shark app does not allow the user to edit the floorplan map until it decides the map is complete and I'm still not there yet. So my bottom line is the Shark software, both the AI software within the robot vac itself as well as the Sharp smartphone app needs to be improved. I do expect at least some of these issues will be addressed in future software/firmware updates. I just hope it doesn't take too long.
