I had been waiting for Sony to release this TV and it has not disappointed. Part of me was considering the A90J for the increased brightness, but I couldn't justify the additional cost. The screen on the A80J is gorgeous with plenty of brightness for a standard living room. We have windows to the right and left and the screen is perfect. It does have a nice matte anti-reflective coating to reduce glare, but it might be annoying if you were to have windows behind your seating area. The color and contrast of this TV is beautiful. Out of the box, color replication looks extremely accurate and blacks are very black. I have not had this TV calibrated, but I am not sure that it really needs it. I started with an LG CX but was not a fan of the remote and the WebOS. I am a Google person, so I really wanted to have GoogleTV built in. While the remote is strangely long, it is narrow and thin and fits well in the hand. The Remote works well, Google Assistant is perfect and the menu is familiar and easy to use. I have this set hooked up to speakers, so I don't use the built-in speakers, but I did try it because I was curious how the Sony speakers would sound - and it far-and-away sounded better than any built-in speakers I have ever heard. This TV certainly comes with a premium cost, but I feel that the cost is well worth it. You get a premium product here! I highly recommend this TV!

Not "Too Dim" As Initially Anticipated

We decided save a few $$$ and got this instead of the A90J. So we were pleasantly surprised that the TV did not turn out to be "too dim" as we have initially anticipated in our moderately bright living room. We didn't have to proceed with plans to install extra blinds. It has a sufficiently loud audio for an internal speaker or "acoustic surface" but obviously still not as good as a decent soundbar and a sub-woofer. Even at this lower price (compared to the A90J), the remote should have been backlit. C'mon Sony!

Having come from a Samsung KS8000 60" that I had for about 4 years, I was a little worried that I would be bothered by the lower brightness switching to OLED. I spent quite a lot of time at the store comparing the A80J and the A90J. That being said, I ended up with the A80J for the lower price as the brightness difference I found to be minimal and only noticeable when side by side with the two. Being able to watch content with true blacks and infinite contrast is a real treat, especially in the dark for that true cinematic / movie theater experience. The brightness works perfectly for me, and for OLED burn in I tend to just make sure if I step away from my TV for more than a minute I just use the Display Off function in the quick shortcut bar. I have noticed that when watching content with a lot of white it does dim a little, but those moments are very few and far in between. Additionally, I primarily watch TV in the evenings and at that time my room has very little direct sunlight, so OLED was the right choice to go with. My only 2 quirks with this TV are: - There are two small holes in the front. At first I thought it was for the Google Assistant, but it appears that the always-on Google Assistant is only available on the A80J in other countries except the USA! So they don't do anything :\ - The remote that it comes with is fine, but the A90J comes with a much nicer metal one that is backlit (the A80J isn't) and comes on automatically when picked up. You can buy that separately, or since it supports Bluetooth remotes, I would highly also recommend the remote that comes with the Chromecast with Google TV as it is much more compact. As I have it connected to a Samsung soundbar, I cannot say much about the speakers, but in my limited time before I got said soundbar, the speakers sounded "okay", but still event an entry level soundbar would be better. It is interesting that they do have the same synergy options when used with Sony soundbars like other brands (i.e., TV speakers help as center channel when used with soundbar).

Love it, it is really easy to setup and use. The picture is awesome and the colors are so accurate. I hooked up a soundbar and it feels like, I am in a movie theater. I liked this so much I bought a 55in for my den. My only complaint is the remote. It does not come with a lighted remote. I bought the lighted remote and all is good. Sony should include this especially when you are spending top dollar for the TV.

I went with the Sony Bravia A80J after seeing it side by side in the store compared to the QLED I originally went to buy AND because it was $400 off on sale. This is the first OLED/4K TV I have owned and I am very impressed with the picture and sound quality. I am also very happy with the ease of use when switching between apps, so much that I ditched the ROKU I had been using on my old TV. Set up was very simple, and it read my cable box with no issues, meaning it's very nice to able to do pretty much everything with the TV remote. The only complaint in that regard, and it's a small one, is the Sony remote does not have a corresponding "info" button for the cable box that displays the info on the show you are watching. Overall I recommend this TV to anyone looking to upgrade from an LCD or QLED TV. Please bear in mind the size of the box when transporting home. I measured everything carefully and the 65" was still about an inch and half too long to fit in the rear crew cab of our Dodge RAM. Luckily we had ratchet straps and the weather was nice enough to where we could transport it home strapped upright in the bed of the truck. A van or large size SUV is best choice for getting this one home.

The TV is beautifully boxed and was easy to unbox and install. I have mine on the regular base, but there are screw sockets for wall mounting. The picture quality with a clean 4k input is excellent; the blacks are black to the point where it's hard to tell where the picture ends and the surround bevel begins. For regular TV, the picture, is as good as my much loved Samsung LED that it replaces. Sound quality is decent, but don't expect it to provide the immersive sound a proper surround system would provide. I'd rate the software as good and setup was intuitive. I wish the remote was backlit; I like to watch in a darkened room and it's hard to see the buttons. I'm satisfied with my new Sony and can recommend it as a top pick in it's class.

Best TV ever for me. Great contrast, color and black level. Looks great especially in HDR and Dolby Vision. The pictures look very real as if I were physically present. The brightest level is higher than I expected. The TV is very user friendly. The only negative I have is the remote control doesn't have back light. Overall a 5 stars TV.

I decided to replace my 9.5 year old 50" Panasonic Plasma as the picture was starting to decline. Based on my budget and what I was looking for I decided to go with XR A80J. It was so easy to set up right out of the box and get up on my tv entertainment center. Setting up my apps went very smoothly and picture quality is fantastic. The ports in the back are kind of hidden which looks cool, but is a little bit of a pain, but not the end of the world. The only thing I do not like is the remote not being backlit considering the amount of money spent. I paired this device with a JBL - 2.1-Channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and Dolby Digital, Thanks to the soundbar setup for the stand I was able to slide the soundbar right underneath the tv. Makes for a nice clean and efficient looking set up.

I absolutely love this TV. It’s easy to use and setup, I love the voice controls, and my PS5 looks amazing on it. My only complaint is that I wish the remote censor was on the corner of the tv rather than the center because my soundbar covers it lol… I just have to aim up and over it to turn it on. After it’s on, somehow the remote works normally. I don’t know how that works but it’s only to turn it on/off that I have to do that. this is a very small gripe. It was seriously worth every penny.

Great TV, love the picture, the google interface is great. Sound is good still debating if I will need a sound bar. Was spoiled with my old Mitsubishi with 18 speakers. The feet for the TV is amazing gives you multiple choices for spacing and height. Remote is ok needs a redesign, backlighting of buttons, channel buttons more toward the middle. It works fine, just hunting for buttons all the time. Glad to be back in the Sony TV family, everything else I have is Sony.

Love the TV. The picture is beautiful. The Geek Squad installed it with a sound bar. We were able to ask questions and they also helped us log in to Google TV. The only thing I don’t like is the remote does not light up. Also we should have bought a mount so that the sound bar is not sitting in front of TV. We have to get up close to TV to turn on and off.

Very high quality. Great picture and sound! Two notable flaws: 1. Only reads the remote if it's aimed at one point on the TV. 2. The power cord doesn't stay in the plug in the back of the TV. Sony provides a zip tie to secure the cord, but the zip tie is poorly designed and doesn't stay either.

Coming from an A8G this model is slightly better. However, not so much better that I would have purchased if my A8G didn't fail after a year and a half. Whatever you do by the warranty. Sony reliability and long-term supportability in regards to repair part availability is severely lacking. That being said, I was impressed with the improved user interface. Much more fluid and responsive then the A8H. Major griped are it did not come with a backlit remote and they got rid of the IR blaster function which is essential if your AV gear is in a closet. Overall, if you were able to pick it up for 2K not a bad deal. Again just buy the extended warranty or you could be left up a creek without a paddle.
