I was really on the edge about spending $800 more for this Sony OLED vs the LG.
I had a QLED previous to this because of the lighting in my previous home. I am glad the salesman advised us Sony is the best OLED on the market, he was right.
I have had it installed for a week now and am blown away by the quality. It is much better than the QLED I had, even though that was an 85" and only 1 year old. The only way to get better than this TV is to go bigger but our space did not allow that. If you are in the market for a new TV and want a home theater experience this is it. Everything looks so good on here.
We had it delivered by best buy because we did not have a pickup truck and installed it ourselves. If you can find your studs in your walls you should not have a problem, my husband and I lifted it up easily onto the wall mount.
Hello MelissaC, thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with the BRAVIA 8 OLED! We are beyond pleased to hear that the picture quality has exceeded your expectations and that the upgrade from your previous QLED was well worth it. Our OLED technology is designed to deliver deep blacks, vibrant colors and a truly immersive cinematic experience – and it's wonderful to know you're enjoying every bit of that at home. It's also great to know that you and your husband were able to get everything set up smoothly. Thank you again for choosing Sony! Sincerely, -Jenn.

Excellent TV. I purchased an open box for $500 off the sale price. Once you dial in the settings, the picture is excellent. Due to the operating system and build quality, I decided on Sony over SAMSUNG and LG. Research showed that Samsung has lost its way with quality control and LG OS become sluggish over time. Brightness was not a issue as its dark room.
You made the right choice with the BRAVIA 8 TV! We're glad that you are enjoying the picture quality, Google software, and design of the TV. Thank you for choosing Sony!

The 77” Sony Bravia 8 OLED is absolutely phenomenal. The picture quality is stunning, deep blacks, rich contrast, incredible color accuracy, and razor-sharp detail that makes everything from movies to sports look cinematic. Motion handling is excellent, and the upscaling makes even lower-resolution content look impressive.
Setup was smooth, the Google TV interface is fast and intuitive, and everything works flawlessly right out of the box. The only minor thing that could be better is a touch more brightness since it’s in a room with lots of windows, but even then, it still performs great in that space and has no problem holding its own. Overall, this TV exceeded expectations and feels like a true premium upgrade in every way. I’ll never buy anything other than a Sony ever again.
We’re honored to hear that the K77XR80 TV is delivering such an exceptional viewing experience for you. Your detailed appreciation of the stunning picture quality, deep blacks, rich contrast, and smooth motion handling highlights the craftsmanship we strive for. It’s wonderful to know the Google TV interface made setup effortless and that the upscaling enhances all your content beautifully. We understand the brightness challenge in a room with many windows and appreciate your thoughtful perspective. Your loyalty to Sony is truly valued, and we’re grateful to be part of your entertainment journey. Thank you for sharing your thoughtful feedback!

I've had this TV for one day and I really love it. I watched local TV news, streamed NCIS on Paramount Plus (although strangely the pause function doesn't work, but that's an app problem) and then streamed Greyhound on AppleTv+. Greyhound looked and sounded so real in Dolby Vision and Atmos. Best Buy did a superb job of setting up the three new Sony TVs and two Yamaha receivers. I only wish this came in an 83 inch.
Thanks for sharing your review and experience with the BRAVIA 8 TV. We're glad that you like the sound, picture quality, and supported apps of the TV. Your feedback about the available sizes of the TV is greatly appreciated. Thank you for choosing Sony!

This tv is so well detailed i feel like i was ripped off watching the walking dead on my old tv and had to see it again. The menu's are snappy and golly that picture quality is crazy. 120hz silky smooth with pc switch 2 and other consoles sound is incredible some times my wife forgets to turn on amp and its hard to notice well for her lol.
Hi RobertS! It's a pleasure to hear that you're blown away by the K77XR80 TV!

Great TV. Excellent motion handling. Great performance with colors. I do wish the highlights could get brighter, or that the colors could pop more. Regardless, the TV looks great. Brightness can really pop in Dolby Vision and my complaints quickly fade away. I didn't even know about the reality creation feature until I was fiddling with settings. It is an amazing feature that you should try if you own a Sony that supports it. It can bring about some details that can be hidden, even in 4k native content. Low res content gets a nice detail bump from it.
This TV does come with quirks that may effect you. As of the firmware out in November 2024, when you want to use Dolby Vision from a video source, like an AppleTV, and 120hz/VRR signal, like from a PS5, and you connect them to the same HDMI source through an AVR, like a Denon x4800h, you will unfortunately not be able to activate both the PS5 or AppleTV's fullest features without continually flipping through Enhanced and Enhanced/VRR settings on the Sony. You can get either Dolby Vision at 24hz or 60hz, but you cannot also get 120hz/VRR when you switch your AVR to the PS5. Vice versa, you can get 120hz/VRR from your PS5, but you won't be able to get Dolby Vision from your AppleTV or UB820-K. This is something to do with the EDID and effects others Sony TVs like the A95L. Sony is aware of the issue and I hope they are working on a fix. You can check their support page if you want to verify the issue. You will also find this issue discussed on AV Forums.
The workaround is to hook one device up AVR and one direct to the TV. For me that meant the PS5 goes directly to the TV and my video sources to the AVR. While it isn't currently effecting me, it kind of sucks that now I actually do need to worry about the HDMI 2.1 inputs in the TV because my AVR cannot be fully utilized. First world problems, but maybe this can be fixed with a firmware patch in the future...
Other quirks are that this TV sometimes fights me with what audio output mode I'd like to use. I have no idea why it thinks I'd use the TV Speakers over my external speakers, but it happens sometimes. Maybe it is a latency issue with the bootup from the Denon and the TV.
Regardless, some niche positives with the TV are that you can see detailed input signal info from a menu option for your standard content as well as a different version of the same information in game mode. This will include color depth, and resolution, audio signal. The game mode detailed info also shows current Hz which updates live. I do wish that game details would stay on the screen longer, but it is at least nice to have.
I also really like that I did NOT have to sign into a google account to use the TV and that it did not try to hide that option. Because I didn't sign into google, I am not dealing with all the bologna ads and bloat. It lets you set it up as a "dumb" TV, or at least as close as we can get to a dumb tv today.

The picture is the best I have ever seen on a screen. No issues, except one small gripe.
The plastic cover surrounding the screen while it was in the box somehow left a residue on the bottom right of the screen. I don’t dare try and remove it or clean it.
You cannot see it while the screen is on, but it is slightly annoying to look at for it being a many thousand $$$$ screen. Makes me wonder why they couldn’t have applied a protective film in addition for the packaging.
Small issue. The picture on this screen is magnificent.
Thank you for your great review, HENNEXE! We are absolutely thrilled to hear that the BRAVIA 8 has the best picture you've ever seen.
The OLED panel is designed to deliver those incredible black levels, and it's wonderful to know you're seeing that difference. With Acoustic Surface Audio+, the sound comes directly from the screen, creating a truly immersive experience that perfectly matches the magnificent picture you mentioned.
We are so sorry for the residue left on the bottom right of the screen. We understand how frustrating it is to have even a small issue like that on such a high-end product. We take your feedback seriously and will absolutely share your valuable suggestion about adding a protective film to the packaging with our development team. For cleaning suggestions, we recommend you visit our support article for detailed information on how to care for your screen.
Thank you again for choosing Sony and for sharing your experience. We hope you continue to enjoy your TV for years to come!

Great picture, easy to set up and use. We spent plenty of time viewing in the showroom before making a decision which model we would ultimately select, the A8 OLED. Received very good advice….don’t fret over small differences when looking at them side by side….when viewed in your home there will be no comparisons to be made.
We're excited to hear that your K77XR80 TV delivers the outstanding contrast and colors you were looking for, and that the 77” size is just right for your 8-foot viewing distance. Thank you for sharing your experience!

TV setup was straightforward and easy with two people. Super convenient that the stand legs can be attached at two different widths and heights on the TV.
Picture quality is wonderful. Built-in picture modes are pretty well optimized and there are plenty of tools for individualizing (as well as some audio sliders).
PS5 and Xbox Series X games are beautiful and lag-free. There's a Dolby Game mode, plus the 'regular' game picture mode.
Speaking of audio, the spatial speakers work well and provide a nice little 3D effect, for media that supports it of course (from my experience, mostly newer video games and Blu-rays).
One of my favorite features is an auto-slideshow option that helps prevent burn-in (and are beautiful, like the pics that would be on a store display).
Only downside for me so far is that the TV gets used half the time for standard (480p-720p), older television shows. TV has post-processing and sharpness options to help accommodate for this. From 20+ feet away, the programs look perfect, but from my normal viewing distance (about 12 feet), you'll see some pixelation and cloudiness, though this shouldn't be unexpected.
All around a wonderful, hopefully decades-plus long, investment.
Hi LukeS, thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with the Sony BRAVIA 8 TV! We're thrilled to hear that you're loving the picture quality, game modes, and the spatial speakers’ immersive sound. We appreciate your feedback on older TV show performance, and it’s great that the post-processing features are helping to improve that. Your thoughtful insights mean a lot to us. Thank you for choosing Sony, and we hope your BRAVIA 8 TV continues to provide many years of enjoyment! -Maria

I’m extremely pleased with the Sony 77" Class BRAVIA 8 OLED (2024). The picture quality is absolutely stunning—vivid colors, deep blacks, and sharp detail that truly bring movies and games to life. I’ve paired it with the Sony HT-A7000 sound bar and RS5 rear speakers, and the audio experience is equally impressive. The surround sound setup creates a full, theater-like experience right in my living room. Setup was simple, and the Google TV interface is smooth and intuitive. This has easily become the centerpiece of my home entertainment system. Highly recommend!

This TV offers stunning cinematic picture quality with deep blacks, vibrant colors, and excellent processing for natural images, making it great for movies in any light, but it's not the brightest OLED.
It lacks some advanced picture settings, and has limited gaming features (only two HDMI 2.1 ports, no 4K@144Hz)
But I still think with minor software update it can rub shoulders with the competitions.
Great TV overall. Would highly recommned it at the price point.
We’re honored to hear your positive feedback about the K77XR80 TV’s stunning picture quality and natural image processing. This TV will make you fall in love with movies and shows all over again! It’s an outstanding package for most buyers, delivering stunning picture quality and performance that you'd expect from an OLED display, and a great user interface. While those with deep technical knowledge in televisions may lean towards Sony or other manufactures even more higher-end offerings, this model is more than impressive for most buyers. If you're looking for a top-tier viewing experience and want to avoid the insane prices of the most advanced models this one is the way to go!

I was debating this vs the A95L, but I'm very happy I went with this one. We saved over $2000, and the picture quality is phenomenal.
My only gripe is that I expected better Google Assistant integration from Sony. The integration works fine with no soundbar. However, for soundbars I have tried both the Sony Bravia Theater Bar 8 and the Sonos Arc. When either soundbar is plugged in via the HDMI arc port, I cannot control the sound volume via Google Asssitant commands (i.e. "set the TV volume to 10%") because the volume only goes up or down by 1 tick at a time. I contacted Sony and was escalated to tier 3 support before being informed that there is no workaround for this issue.
I ended up sticking with the Sonos Arc over the Sony soundbar, however, since at least Sonos has a dedicated Google Home integration, which at least allows me to say "Set the *soundbar* volume (not TV volume) to 10%". That voice command was not working at all with the Sony system, so I was forced to use the remote control.
So, if you need Google Home integration for this TV I would recommend going with a Sonos soundbar instead of Sony. I hope this saves somebody the many hours we spent investigating the issue. Otherwise we are very happy with our purchase!
