Sony keeps making strides in their camera offerings and the Sony a7IV camera is an improvement over the two previous models I have been using: a7RIII and a9. I have been mostly very happy with the previous models, photographing professionally. I came to Sony while I was still using Canon DSLR cameras, lenses speed lights and purchased a mirrorless, Sony RX-1 for personal use and I was blown away at the out of the camera image quality and small size of the fixed, 35mm/2 lens camera. I’m a still photographer not a videographer, so I have no experience in the video realm of these cameras. When I want video I use my iPhone 13 Pro which does an amazing job. So how I came upon getting the a7IV — I had an accident two months ago at a wedding I was photographing — I slipped and fell while holding my two main cameras and needless to say I damaged the a7rIII with a 70-200/2.8 Sony zoom attached. Thus, I found myself needing to have a working second camera within a few days to cover more photo jobs and another wedding the following weekend. My (July 2023) research lead me to wish for the a9II as the a9 has been a favorite for much of my work and the a1 that is so nice but more than I need, mainly because I don’t often photograph sports and both models were outside my immediate desired price range. So, the a7IV fit the basic needs and price fit perfectly. The a7IV has really nice color, image quality (33 MP); it works faster and auto focus is speedy and works great; the newer hand grip is longer and better for holding, although I still get a sore spot after a 12 hour day holding it so often with a Tamron 35-150mm/2-2.8 (super lens!). I like the lightness of the camera body that may contain a lot of polycarbonate as opposed to aluminum, which can hold up well but may not be as sturdy as an a9II in practice. What I am not as satisfied with is the new menu design which seems to go on forever, and the “my menu” helps but not in all settings. I do wish Sony would design the menu system as two systems, one for still photography and one for video and just keep them separate, it just seems it would make things operatively quicker and visually simpler. The a7IV is valuable as a professional camera but keep in mind it is designed as something of a base model, beginners camera and it’s not geared as a pro model. I believe most people will find this camera (in 2023) to be a wonderful model to own and use either as a primary camera or as a secondary body.

I recently upgraded to the Sony A7 IV, and it has completely transformed my photography experience. The 33MP sensor delivers stunning image quality with amazing detail and vibrant colors, perfect for my wildlife photography. Autofocus is lightning-fast and incredibly accurate, even in challenging conditions.
The customizable settings make it versatile for both photography and video work, and the 4K 60p video capabilities are outstanding. The ergonomics are perfect, and the menu system is much more intuitive than before. Battery life is impressive, allowing me to shoot for hours without worry.
Whether you’re a professional or an enthusiast looking to take your skills to the next level, the Sony A7 IV is worth every penny. Highly recommended!

Amazing mirrorless camera! I stepped up from a Sony A7iii, and don't regret it for a second. The A7iii was a great camera too, but the A7iv is better. Do the firmware update if it's not already updated. The addition of focus bracketing is worth it if you're into macro photography.

I’m a sports photography looking to add a few more video shots and this camera is amazing. Definitely one of the best hybrid cameras. Great autofocus, has the flip out screen and utilizes a full size hdmi. You can’t go wrong

I was a Canon user for some time. After a research I decided for Sony. Until now I have no complaints, the image quality exceeds all my expectations. All the features are amazing. Is a little heavy with the Sony 24-70mm 2.8. Also use the Sigma adapter for my Canon lenses and work very wrll, no complaints at all. I am very glad with my selection on this camera, I have no regrets about this purchase and recommend this camera 100%.

Fantastic image quality for both photos and video. Autofocus is fast and reliable, including eye AF, and the dynamic range gives plenty of flexibility in editing. The camera feels well built, easy to customize, and performs great in low light. Battery life is solid for mirrorless, and overall it’s an extremely versatile camera that works well for travel, photography, and video.
Highly recommended.

This camera has been one of my best purchases to date! Lightweight, amazing quality, easy to use/learn & customize. Best of all is the battery life - does laps around other brands! Highly recommend! Been using it for over a year now for weddings & engagements and I can’t picture going back to any other brand I’ve used

As a beginner stepping into the world of photography, the Sony A7 IV has been an exciting and sometimes overwhelming experience—but mostly in a good way. This camera is packed with features that, while advanced, still feel accessible once you start getting used to it.
The image quality is incredible. Even with just the basic kit lens, my photos look sharp, colorful, and professional. The autofocus system is one of the standout features for me. It tracks eyes and faces automatically, which makes taking portraits or action shots much easier—I don’t have to worry about focusing manually or missing the moment.
The camera has a lot of buttons and settings, which can seem intimidating at first. But once I spent some time watching tutorials and experimenting, I started to understand how much creative control it gives. The menu system is improved from older models, but still a bit confusing at times. Fortunately, there are customizable buttons, so I could set it up in a way that made sense for me.
I’ve also started experimenting with video, and the 4K quality is stunning. The flip-out screen makes it super easy to record myself or get creative angles, which is great for vlogging.
Overall, the Sony A7 IV might be a bit pricey and advanced for some beginners, but if you're serious about learning and want something you can grow into, it’s an amazing investment. It’s helped me improve quickly and made photography more fun and rewarding.

I purchased the Alpha 7IV since it can be updated to do focus stacking (focus bracketing in Sony language). (The camera comes with Version 2 of the software, when you get it immediately update to Version 6. I have a Sony alpha 6100 and an earlier version of this camera, a Sony alpha 7 II. The alpha 7 II is a great camera but the 7 IV has a somewhat higher resolution at 30 Mpixels. I do a lot of macro photography and doing it by hand is a real pain. I have found in the few weeks I have owned this camera that its automated process is outstanding. There are other updates from the 7 II that I was not interested in like cell phone tethering so that you have a larger image to examine, and even in-app operation of the camera. I have loved my 7 II but the 7 IV has many solid updates so it has become my go-to camera.

Absolutely stunning imagery, this mirrorless camera is the best I’ve try amongst multiple brands. The AI autofocus nails it every single time, nothing important out of focus. The LOG and other picture profiles for videos are incredibly amazing and a lot of room for color grading. But if you don’t want to color grade or don’t know there are profiles that look amazing right off the camera. Battery life is good, and something not many explain around; this camera has a 7K sensor , so your 4K video is what we videographers call “oversampled 4K” is like an ultra quality 4K

Perfect camera for entry level professionals. Easily able to shoot portraits, weddings or anything else at a professional level. 33 megapixels is kind of the sweet spot for photography where you still get enough detail for basically any print you may want to throw at it yet the file is size isn't unbearably large enough to slow your workflow down or fill up your computer. The lens selection with the Sony e mount system is just unmatched too. All around great camera for the price, if you need more megapixels maybe for professional landscape photography the a7rv is another great buy but honestly this camera is almost as good even being a couple years older. No regrets at all with this purchase!

Overall, the camera is solid. I previously had an a7iii, from which this is a huge step up. The unit I received had 3 dead LCD pixels (stuck green), which is unfortunate for SONY quality control, but not best buy's fault. 33mp photos look great, and you have great video codecs of 4k60 XAVC S-I, but for video the sensor readout speed is pretty atrocious (nearly 30ms), so any handheld or whipping will look sloppy and jello-like. The sensitivity is also not great, especially if you are shooting in LOG and need to overexpose. The EVF is nice, locking mode switch, top dial, and flip screen are all great. *FD: I returned this unit because of the defect, and best buy handled that properly, so I gave 4 stars.*

Fantastic camera. The sale that I got it on made it even better, but sale or no sale, this camera is a beaut. Feels great in your hands (I’m 6’6” and have large hands), the image quality is terrific, clean, sleek feel and look, and just a sturdy product. Cant recommend this enough for anyone wanting to step up their camera gear game. The Sony lens ecosystem is also vast, so there will be absolutely no trouble finding decent glass without breaking the bank.

This camera has so many great features and updates to the Sony ecosystem that there is very little to actually want this to also have as a feature. It’s a perfect hybrid camera especially something that’s not super focused in a particular niche. I’ve upgraded from the A7RM3 And a lot of the things that I wish would be an improvement this camera has. Amazing auto focus, great resolution, and awesome video features. I was originally a Canon shooter and this new upgrade further solidified my investment in the brand with Sony and I am glad of the choice that I have chosen.
Sony's commitment to customer satisfaction is our top priority. We are happy to hear you are satisfied with the performance and features of the ILCE7M4 . Thank you for the review, and for choosing Sony. Amy.

I’ve been using the Sony A7 IV for professional photo and video work, and honestly it’s one of the best hybrid cameras I’ve ever owned. The image quality is super sharp, colors look great, and the autofocus is insanely fast and reliable — especially for people, movement, and low light situations.
