Bought this Sony AN1000 AV receiver along with a Sony A90K OLED TV. This receiver replaced my 12 year old Yamaha AVR, and works very well with the Sony TV. The 360 surround sound feature is awesome and better utilizes my 5.1 Klipsch speakers system. It also allows me to control everything using one remote.
We couldn't be happier to hear that the STRAN1000 receiver pairs so well with your A90K OLED TV and enhances your 5.1 Klipsch speaker setup with the 360 surround sound feature. It’s great to know that having the convenience of controlling everything with one remote adds to your enjoyment. Your experience truly highlights the seamless integration we aim to deliver.
Best regards, -Fred

There is no better movie avr than this unit for the price. Sony has done it again. It’s very cinematic. And it’s a double win that you can sync rear wireless speakers. Very few AVRs allow this.
We're truly heartened to learn that the STRAN1000 AVR has impressed you, especially when it comes to cinematic performance and value. Your appreciation for the wireless rear speaker syncing feature means a lot to us, as we strive to offer options that set our products apart. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and highlighting what makes this unit stand out.

I was just able to connect my new unit yesterday and so far I'm very impressed.......mostly. The main reason I purchased this unit is I needed to be able to use Wireless Rear Surround Speakers (I purchased the Sony SA-RS5) due to inability to wire my media room easily. I also purchased a wireless subwoofer. The problem I learned yesterday..........if you connect any wired upfiring speakers for Dolby Atmos, it disables the wireless speakers. Once I disconnected the wired front surround/upfiring speakers the wireless ones worked just fine. So I now have a $500 pair of Klipsch Reference Premier II upfiring speakers I can use.
We are thrilled to hear you're impressed with the sound of your STR-AN1000! It sounds like you’re building an incredible media room.
Regarding the upfiring speakers, we appreciate your honesty. The receiver is designed to prioritize specific speaker patterns to ensure the 360 Spatial Sound Mapping is perfectly calibrated. Currently, when wireless rears like the SA-RS5 (which have their own built-in upfiring drivers) are connected, the system reassigns those height channels to the wireless units to maintain the "Atmos bubble."
While this means your wired height speakers can't run simultaneously with the wireless rears, we hope the immersive sound from the RS5s still blows you away. Thank you for choosing Sony for your home theater!

Purchased this unit to replace an older Sony receiver. Have only had it up and operating for a couple of days. Setup is very easy and Sony provides an operating manual for the basic operation. Set up for me was longer than usual because of a faulty speaker wire in the attic which took a while to find and fix. The auto calibration phase had indicated that the right front speaker had an issue. Once fixed everything went smoothly. The soundfields are very nice although I have yet to put them to the test by playing a BD movie. There is a help manual available on line which can be downloaded to a computer or cell phone which gives much more information details on its operation.

My previous receiver was the Pioneer VSX‑1019AH-K. Was happy with it, but wanted to go Atmos. The Sony has plenty of power for my open family room. I'm running 5.1.2. Sounds amazing.
We're thrilled to hear that the STR-AN1000 has been such a powerful and amazing upgrade for your home theater setup. Moving from your previous receiver to a Dolby Atmos system is a huge leap in audio immersion, and it's fantastic that the STR-AN1000 is delivering on that promise with plenty of power for your space. We hope you continue to enjoy the incredible, cinematic sound of your new 5.1.2 setup! Thanks for choosing Sony. -Eliab

After a lightning strike took out my Yamaha receiver I had to purchase something new. I tried several high end Marantz and Denon receivers but they didn’t seem to have the sound ai was expecting for my home theater.
After reading a few reviews on the Sony I decided to forget my bias towards the higher end brands and try this one out. WOW I was really surprised by this receiver. I heard sounds through my Def Tech speakers I have never heard before. My dogs freaked out too. I did have a little self issue adjusting the sound with the included sound adjustment microphone. Make sure you have the wire on the microphone facing the receiver. Sony couldn’t figure it out but me being hardheaded I didn’t read the instructions and had the wire pointed away from the receiver and it kept telling me my speakers were incorrectly wired. After I figured it out it works perfectly.
As a bonus the day after I purchased my receiver it went on sale and I saved another $50.00 off which BB promptly gave me a credit on my purchase.
So far I am enjoying my new receiver. I updated all my speakers to Logan Morton and I am loving the upgrade.
So if you are on the fence about buying this receiver just try it out. You can always return it if you don’t like it and go with another brand.

Bought this to pair with my Sony Bravia x90L. The receiver sounds pretty good when watching movies, I am using a 5.0 setup in my living room. I'd give it 4 stars for movie watching. I didn't like the user interface, its ok but not very user friendly. Music listening wasn't that great, i wasn't using any EQ for movies or music. Movies sound good but in stereo mode the treble was very bright, too bright, and the bass was very flat. This can kind of be fixed by adjusting EQ, but its not convenient to have to adjust the EQ every time i want to switch between Stereo and Surround Sound modes. I know some people like the "Sony" sound, but its not for me. Also the "click" when turning on the amp is kind of loud. Also i couldnt figure out how to stop the amp turning on every time i turn on the TV, i dont need the amp for normal TV watching.
Anyway long story short, i exchanged this for a Denon x1800h. I am much happier now. Movies sound great. Music is awesome in stereo. It doesn't turn on every time i turn my TV on unless i want it too. And it was virtually the same price.
I thought i would get a Sony AVR to match my Bravia, but i should have known better considering i have a higher model Denon already in my home theater that i am very happy with also.

Absolutely awesome, usually don't do reviews but had to for this one. Looked for over 2 years for the perfect receiver and this is it. Originally bought Sony $599 because of reviews but it crapped out after 2 months and couldn't return so took a chance on this one and it was half the price at the time. But the easy setup and app are the real selling points. Great buy and excellent sound.
Hi Edward, We're glad that you're enjoying your new receiver. Thank you for choosing Sony. Erin

This is an amazing receiver for the money, especially if you can get one open-box (I did). It cannot do more than a 5.1.2 Atmos setup but is forward compatible with most major audio formats including IMAX Enhanced and delivers a surprising punch when paired with stand alone wired speakers. Integrates seamlessly with newer Sony TVs for great home theatre experience.

This new model, the STR-AN1000, represents a significant upgrade from my previous Sony AVR STR-DN 1080. At first glance, it may appear similar with only minor enhancements, but in terms of specifications and overall experience, the STR-AN1000 surpasses expectations. While the external appearance remains unchanged, which I personally appreciate, the remote has undergone an update to offer a better grip, thanks to its smaller size – a notable improvement. One key addition is the HDMI 2.1 compatibility with VRR for gaming, a feature I missed in my previous model.
Moreover, the user interface has a fresh and well-organized look. Boasting 6 4K and 8K inputs along with 2 outputs, the device is well-equipped for modern connectivity needs. The setup process was effortless, and the on-screen software proved to be self-explanatory, guiding me seamlessly through the sound setup. I connected my Klipsch Reference 5.1.4 with Dolby Atmos, and the resulting audio was truly exceptional, particularly with the immersive 360 spatial audio experience.
Notably, the inclusion of WiFi, along with the convenient AirPlay and cast functions, adds significant value to the overall functionality of the device.

I like the receiver very much. It sounds good now that I have a signal. The guy who sold me the receiver and a hMDI cord sold me the wrong cord. I didn't ask him should I get a better cord and he said no this will be fine. Before I got it to work. I finally read in the manual that I need a HDMI cord from my TV with a minimum of 46 gB per second . The HDMI cord the salesman told me was only 18 . But it's all right now just took me 3 days LOL
We're so glad to hear that you’re enjoying your Sony receiver and finding the sound quality impressive now that you have a signal. Thank you for the wonderful 4-star rating! The STR-AN1000 is known for its versatile connectivity and immersive audio performance, helping you make the most out of your listening experience.
Thank you for choosing Sony—wishing you a fantastic day! DiegoV.

This Sony STR AN1000 receiver is an excellent choice, especially for those with 8K needs and a requirement for dual 120hz HDMI ports, which is particularly beneficial if you have a TV with limited ports like the Sony Bravia.
I use it with my Sony Bravia OLED, and it integrates seamlessly, allowing me to control my home theater setup directly with the Sony TV remote. After connecting this receiver, I noticed new quick menu options on my Sony TV, such as sound field and options to toggle 360 spatial audio.
For Sony Bravia TV owners, this receiver is the ideal complement. However, its merits extend beyond just pairing with Sony TVs. Its performance and audio quality are outstanding for movies and other video content, regardless of your TV brand.
My setup includes Sony speakers configured for Atmos, front left/right, a subwoofer, and wireless rear speakers. The auto-calibration feature is impressively precise, a testament to Sony's engineering. The 360 spatial audio, in my experience, even surpasses Dolby Atmos, creating an incredibly immersive sound environment.
However, the receiver falls short when it comes to playing music. Compared to my previous Pioneer receiver, which had the MCACC calibration function, music playback sounds somewhat flat. Despite trying various calibration settings, I can't seem to activate the subwoofer for music or 2-channel stereo, as it only kicks in for multi-channel modes. The custom preset settings allow adjustments for every speaker except the subwoofer, which is a puzzling omission. I hope a future firmware update might address this.
My speaker setup is a 5.1.2 configuration, including the subwoofer. For now, I find myself using my old Pioneer receiver for playing music from my turntable, while the Sony receiver is relegated to video content. It's disappointing that Sony didn't give the same attention to the music playback capabilities as they did to other features.

Works perfectly, Amazing upgrade to Sony STRDH590 I had previously. I also purchased Sony - SA-SW5 300W Wireless Subwoofer and Sony - SA-RS3S Wireless Rear Speakers that pair effortlessly with this receiver. I simply had them plugged in and turn them on and the AN1000 found and calibrated them for me.
The rest of the speakers I have are the Polk audio monitor series center, tower, and height speakers. I really think this is a sweet spot in terms of price for sound and performance over many systems.
I previously had the Bose 900 soundbar paired with subwoofer and surround speakers.
The Sony system is far and away a better sounding system with the ability for me to have my Apple TV, PS5 and HD disk player attached without need for separate switching device.
The sound is so good that I had to close my eyes and look away the first few times watching one Dolby Atmos scene with the camera flying fast and diving over a waterfall. I felt like I was there, and my stomach would quickly drop just like on a roller coaster.
Something else that is of extreme importance to me is being able to clearly hear dialog which this does an amazing job with. I find that I can comfortably watch programs at 10 volume or 30 volume and still hear clearly.
I did watch a few Youtube tutorials on how to position your center channel properly to achieve the best vocals and that probably has something to do with it as well. I highly recommend everyone with a center channel to search and follow one of those tutorials.

This replaced my decade old Denon X-4000, my denon did it’s job but slowly began having more audio issues, tinny like sounds on dialogue and constant buzzing from the box. I “downgraded” to the sony, much less power, no preamps. That being said my theater space these days is rather small 8.5x15 with light acoustic treatments and easy to drive speakers.
I really dont need that much power. The sony is a good deal, the 360 sound mapping is quite amazing. I had my eye on Dirac but the costs for dirac licenses and the fact my space is not ideal to begin with I decided to try out the sony with sound mapping. My soundstage has never sounded better. I disabled bluetooth standy mode because it seems to attribute to a loud thud on start up sound. That may be normal but it just didn’t sound great, turning that off has removed that loud start up. The app connectivity is nice as I have my receiver in an av closet, however it needs repairing often for some reason. The remote everyone seems to hate, it gets the job done but I primarily rely on the apple tv remote so it’s not a big concern.
Independent outs for sub would have been nice but not really a huge concern with mini dsp options.
For my tastes I definitely enjoy the sound this puts out for movies and music.
We're elated to hear that you appreciate the upgrades from the previous version and are enjoying the STR-AN1000's 360 spatial mapping and versatile speaker configurations.
