Very happy and pleased with the remastering of this trology, and very happy with the overall clarity, sharpness, crispness and tone of the colors and the much better scrubbed action sequences and black ranges. I can never watch thus under 4K again! Side by side with my old bluray versions on my old bedroom 1080p television (native quality, no upscaling), this 4K version on my Samsung QN90C (played through a PS5) looks leaps and bounds better in every aspect.

I've watched this glorious trilogy for the first after picking it up on 4K Blu Ray. I've watched TFOTR after getting it, and then watched the last 2 the next day/night. All I can say is it looked great, and sound absolutely fantastic thanks to the Dolby Atmos tracks provided. This is worth the $90 as Weta Digital/Warner Brothers have done a fantastic job with the transfers.

This is the 4k movie to truly show off how amazing 4K video and Dolby Atmos audio can be. A must-have for any LOTR or 4K video enthusiast. The product does come with the digital versions but the physical copies are the way to go as the compression is less and spread across 2 discs.

Brilliant visual and audio quality. HDR alone makes it worth the upgrade, while the new color timing is a much welcomed addition.

Most of the collection came in good condition, but alas one of the discs was cracked. Slight, yes, but it would not play in my XBoX One S, the other discs worked fine, but the second disc of the extended edition wouldn’t. (Ironically it was the second half of the Two Towers extended on DVD I was trying to replace) not sure if it was in transit, packaged damaged, but I only noticed it when it went into the player.

I love these movies especially the extended editions. BUT I am infuriated, some of the discs are missing half of the front design, NONE of them where properly in the case. Luckily from what I see so far there are no actual scratches. This is absolutely not worth what I paid but you can’t return it which is absolute bull it’s not our fault it’s garbage and the movie industry can’t properly package and create a case that everything doesn’t fall out of.

This is a great collection but be sure you have a 4K HD set up to play it. My son wanted both theatrical and extended versions and this was the only box set I found with it all. The only problem is I ran to Best Buy on a break because there was only 1 on the shelf. I did not read the box. I instead asked the cashier if it would play on any HD set up just not display in 4K and was told yes it would. When my son tried to play it on his bday and it wouldn’t play I read the box. Nope…not playable without 4K set up. Not returnable after opening. My expensive mistake.

    Video Distortion

Sadly I waited months to watch this movie as I now wish I could get a refund. It looks vibsiblt stunning for I’d say 90% of the movie and then looks like a vhs tape you found in your attic from 30 years ago. Upon watching the extended version of The Fellowship of the Ring I discovered some sections had extreme video & audio distortions. Looking online for a potential solution I found multiple people have similar issues with the 4k extended versions specifically. Having recently watched other 4k movies with no problems and the disc having no visible damage it feels like a manufacturing error. I have yet to watch the other discs but expect to have similar issues.

Purchased these instore today Dec 26th 2021. Discs were loose when I opened the boxset, and some are scratched. The center pressure piece that holds the disc in place is broken on some of the disc trays. Given what is being charged for these Id expect better QC. I have not tried out the movies. Give the the total run time is about 12hrs i wont know if the defects will cause issues. I will update this soon. 2 Stars for the defects.

We all love LotR; the most crazed among us love the extended editions above all. What more could you ask for to have these in 4K? Get it - spend 14 hours watching all three in beautiful clarity and color and deep sound!

The 4K version of the directors cut is simply sublime. Fixing in lighting and overall mood of the middle earth shifted to a darker more realistic feeling fantasy. Colors on armor and skin, especially the orcs, feel more vibrant and alive. You’ll notice the darker scenes like in cave settings are much more details and textured. You can feel the condensation on the walls and the depths of the puddles characters are stepping into. Everything and everyone seems to have a bit more depth and boldness

Perfect quality for the greatest trilogy of all time. Box and cover art felt a bit cheap, but I got it for the films so five stars. Also digital copies were already expired, but I don't usually download digital.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. If you're an LOTR geek like me, this is a must have. I played both the old DVD from 20 years ago and compared to this. Huge difference. There's so much more sharpness and clarity. Interestingly, the colors were toned down a bit. Probably to make it look more realistic. The surround sound must have been enhanced because it's awesome! It's a must have for any LOTR fan.
