Could not reformat for my Mac

It comes formated as FAT32, and I tried to use Apple's Disk Utility to erase it and reformat it as Extended Journaled with only one partition. It would not allow me. I asked a Geek Squad member why it didn't work. He told me that WD encrypts it so you can't do what I wanted to do. It can be used with a Mac but will be slower because of the multiple partitions of FAT 32. I will probably return it.
