The 1 Tb WD external HD packs a wallop for something so small. My dying 4-yr old HP Laptop (cooling fan was cutting out) gave me warning to get it backed up. I read the reviews and decided to go with the metal version and ordered it from Best Buy. It arrived a day early (lucky for me) and I stayed up all night getting the WD to back up everything possible. The laptop was not allowing some items to be backed up because they were running in the background. I finally got even those few files to be backed up into the little WD & went to bed. A few hours later, when I woke up, I found my laptop was now kaput. If Best Buy had not sent it that day early, I would not have my business and critical files now. I had ordered, in the meantime, a refurbed HP desktop from Best Buy (an affiliate of theirs), and it also arrived a day early. Again, I stayed up thru the night & copied most of the files & programs I could to the 'new' HP desktop (no more laptops, thank you). Some programs did not transition well from the laptop to the desktop, so the companies involved helped. I cointacted Best Buy's Geek Squad for other components I need to add to the refurbed desktop, and they were terrific! Thank you Best Buy. I have backed up the desktop to the WD Passport HD (with regular backups at night) and have found it great to be able to compare differences quickly & easily between my dead laptop and my refurbed desktop. I was without a computer for all of 2 days, thanks to the team of Best Buy and this amazing little WD 1 Tb Passport external HD, which has plenty of room for so much more (good thing, since the Adobe Suite takes up a lot of room on a computer). Don't know how I got along without this must have item.

I have been used to using external disk almost all my life and I found out the new versions of external disks even more amazing especially in terms of size, speed and capacity.

I already purchased this product before like a year or two before and it works great. I needed another one for work so I decided to get the same brand WD, and I like the Metal case. Go with WD guys.

I originally bought this drive to backup my PC so I could reinstall Windows, overall in terms of performance this awesome little 1TB drive exceeded my expectations! I now use it for backups and keeping my photo collection on. Pros: - Speed demon, it's nice and fast! - Awesome design and aluminum housing, very reminiscent of ASUS's Zenbook laptop line! - 256bit AES encryption - Nice and small Cons: - My only initial gripe would be regarding the bundled software on the drive provided by Western Digital, its UI is very confusing it doesn't tell you much in terms of what's going on during a backup, much less any advanced options for a backup.

I have recently backed up all of my photos, documents, etc. onto this My Passport External Hard Drive. The 1 TB is a good size for me, personally, and the unit itself is small and easy to use. I opted for the more stylish brushed silver look, but if appearances hardly matter to you, I would recommend the black plastic version to save on quite a few dollars.

I use this store about 60 gigs of music files. Makes it easy to shuttle music between computers and provide a backup. Small, fast, needs no external power source. What more could you want? So glad I got it!

I had been in the market for an external drive for quite some time now. This external drive caught my eye because of the way it looked. I was informed by a best buy sales person that this is an amazing piece of equipment. He definitely was right! Very easy to set up, user friendly and did I mention that it was very fast. You will be amazed by the look and speed this little box has.

I have always preferred WD products as they have been very reliable in the past. So I decided to go with the 1TB Ultra Metal Edition this time around. I really liked the polished finish it has. I had to reformat the drive in order to to get it to work with my Macbook, simple to accomplish. Big difference in transfer speed in comparison to my old 2.0 USB Hard Drive.

My passport Ultra 1TB is a great device to store files to use on the go. It is compact and very easy to carry with my laptop, very easy to connect and keep all of my files updated as I travel for one location to the next. It is also fast and it does not take long to up load files. Very light weight. So far I have not had any issues with this unit. I know others that use this unit and they are happy with it as is.

I bought this for file back-up purposes and the download to it was very fast. It held tons of files (office docs, PDFs, etc. mostly). I'd say about 2 GB. Easy to use, plug-in and you see the drive so the transfer was pretty painless. Much more room available for future storage use.

I purchased the 1TB model to expand my storage of photos/videos so as not to fill up my hard drive as quickly as I did on my previous computer. It worked right out of the box with minimal setup. The metal finish looks great on my desk and the portability is an added plus.

I needed a very large storage drive that was portable. this works great more then what i needed but who knows i use this to go from work to home and it has more then enough space but the best part its size small and easy to use love it

I purchased this WD device to replace a Seagate drive that went bad. The device boasts many useful features in addition to its compact size, sturdy casing, and USB 3.0 speed. My favorite feature is the built-in AES-256 encryption. It's not difficult to turn on, either. The drive comes bundled with WD Security, WD Drive Utilities, and a free upgrade to WD SmartWare Pro for 3 PCs. The WD Security tool allows you to turn on the encryption by entering in a password and clicking save. Once you eject the drive, it is automatically locked. The drive is fast, as well. Encryption can sometimes slow down hard drives, but this drive reads and writes data at up to 110 Megabytes per second with encryption enabled as well as disabled, up to 20 Megabytes per second faster than my Seagate drive.

This 1TB drive is working great! With the metal casing, it not only has a more durable build, but it also looks great. Files transfer to it quickly and it is small, light weight, easy to carry anywhere.

It is so cute! And shiny! I love the brushed stainless look. It is quick and responsive. It holds the volume of data as advertized. Lightweight, small and portable. Just right.
