Good dryer....a note about the status lights

      Posted

I had ordered this dryer before reading some of the negative reviews and I must say I was very nervous before it arrived. But, I am glad I went with this dryer because it is great. It dries a large load of heavy towels in about 30 minutes! My old dryer would take at least 2 cycles to dry that same amount. The same with bedding. It dries very fast and nicely. The dryer is also very quiet, granted it is in my garage. But I have to listen closely to see if it is still on so it's not loud at all. The dryer is very spacious inside and fits a huge load. The one thing that I want to mention is that the manufacturer manual has incorrect information about how the status lights work. This has caused a lot of confusion, not just with this model but with other samsung models as well (according to many reviews I've read). The issue is that the "dry" light, "cooling light" and in some cycles the "end" light all REMAIN lit throughout the entire cycle. Whatever status the dryer is in, that particular light (along with the lights around the knob) will blink or flash. Usually one would think only the particular status light should be on and the warranty states that only that one light will be on, and it also states that it will remain lit (rather than saying it will blink). I was upset thinking there was something wrong, but realized that the dryer is working perfectly. I called samsung 2 different times just to be sure and was told by both reps that the lights on my machine are how it is supposed to work. They claim that the lights were "updated" after the manual was printed and assured me that it is correct. I even saw a video on you tube where someone was showing how to use the dryer and I saw that that person's dryer lights worked the same way as mine. Unfortunately I have read reviews where people thought their dryer was defective, returned it and replaced it with the same model and had the same "problem" which is not a problem after all. It is an incorrect manual issue. So, don't freak out if all of the status lights stay on throughout the entire drying cycle, they are supposed to!!!!

Great Dryer - Easy to Use

We replaced our Whirlpool Duet Sport dryer with this one three weeks ago. Our Whirlpool was expensive when we bought it (4 years ago) and it was bought purely because I thought it was "pretty." It did it's job up until we had a board problem that we ended up fixing for three dollars only days AFTER we bought the new one. Hey, I got a new dryer out of it, right? ;) I did a lot of research to select something inexpensive that would do a good job. I ended up selecting this model. It was on sale and had great reviews. I found that I really only needed/used a features on my expensive model, so I was just looking for something that would dry my clothes. Period. It's been in use for those three weeks and has worked flawlessly, as it should... it's new. I'm enjoying it. It dries quicker than our old unit, even on sensor dry. Easy to clean out the filter. Not as quiet as our last one, but what little noise there is doesn't bother me at all. The little alarm it plays is cute, but you can't hear it from that far away. I highly recommend.

Ran fine as long as it did

The dryer ran pretty ok for 2.5 years. We had some noise at one point, and a couple minor issues, but overall everything ran just fine. The issue was that 2 weeks ago the entire thing stopped heating during any cycles. I ordered OEM parts because there's only a 1-year warranty on the product, and replaced the thermostat, heating coil, and thermal fuse. After about 10 minutes of heat, it stopped again. I've heard from several people that I shouldn't have bought a Samsung dryer in the first place, it would've been nice to know that ahead of time. Definitely doesn't have the longevity of other products out there, less than 3 years is unacceptable for such an investment.

Did't work great, then died after warranty expired

I got this dryer in December 2015. From the beginning, we had some problems with the sensor, so we ALWAYS used the time dry instead of any of the more clever features, even after calling Samsung for guidance. Still, that was okay. What's awful is that a year and some into owning the machine, it just stopped working right when we were trying to get everything ready for our first kid. After a year, there's no more warranty on parts or labor - the only thing they will fix is the control board and only by providing the part, not the service. There's no reason for something that costs hundreds of dollars to break after less than 2 years. I'm incredibly disappointed and probably will avoid buying Samsung again.

So far I enjoy having this dryer and it works well. I only gave it 4 stars because we’ve only had it for 1 month, I think 5 stars needs to wait until longer term to see how it holds up. This dryer can hold queen size bedding & comforters, hunting suits, and other large loads like 6-10 pairs of pants. We like that we can pick either the sensor dry option or just the manual pick a time & heat setting option. The dryer is fairly quiet, you can faintly hear it running and that is with our laundry room being located off the kitchen & living room with no door to close it off. The only hesitation I had about ordering this was prior reviews where people had issues with fuses & heating elements but we’ll find out in the long run how it holds up.

      Do Not Purchase

In short, this stopped working twice in the first year which was covered under the warranty. Shortly after that the noise coming from the machine is very loud, not a normal dryer sound but like a train running through the house. Finally at the two year mark of owning this dryer, it stopped heating up. We just purchased a Maytag to replace this piece of junk. If you do a web search you will find these are common issues with Samsung dryers which absolutely shouldn’t be occurring with a 2 year old dryer. Samsung should stick to TV’s. Lesson learned.

Since there is no choice for 4.5 star, I picked 4 stars. Reasons being below Installation: I got this to replace my old broken gas dryer, but had to get new pipes and tubes. Then hired someone to install for me since I have no experience. I would say that it's better than the electric one since you need special electric wire and outlet for that. Noise: Much lower than my 10 year old one before it broke. But it's in the basement so it's okay. Heat: I tried medium heat at first, and it is very hot, so I think that it works as suggested and every better. I would not recommend drying at high heat, as it may damage most of the average clothes. Time: It is pretty quick overall. Overall: It looks clean, and does what it says. Not very expensive, and works well so far. Would recommend.

Dries good but don't care for rounded top

You can't leave anything on the top of this dryer because the front of it is rounded and slants down. I put a bottle of Tide on top of it and when the washing machine (next to it) vibrated, it knocked the Tide off in the floor and broke the bottle open. It also does not have a light inside which I thought was very unusual. That's probably the first dryer in 20 years that I've had that does not have a light inside. It has a huge drum and will dry a lot of clothes very quickly though so the good outweighs the bad. I did not read any reviews and did not notice the rounded edges when I ordered this online. I would still buy it but would read reviews the next time.
