    Better than I expected

This watch replaced my Gear S model. I did not purchase the Gear S2 because it was too small and had some connectivity issues when I tested it. So far the S3 has performed flawlessly. It's not as bulky as the S model so I can easily access it from under my jacket now that it's getting chilly. The display is easy to read from any angle and there are tons of options for a watch face design to choose from (many of them are free). The pre loaded watch designs are good enough for any kind of everyday use. Haven't tested the waterproof capabilities yet, but I haven't had to take it off while washing stuff around the house or work. The watchbands that come with it are a little bit stiff and could be uncomfortable depending on how you wear them, but I found that Amazon carries all kinds of watchbands for it and I got a couple that feel super comfortable. The fact that this watch can take a regular band makes your comfort/style choices endless. Battery life is improved from my S model. I have it on the "Always on" display and have it set to give me all kinds of alerts and notifications throughout the day, after 10 hours of use I still have about 75% battery left. I always charge my phone and watch at night when I go to sleep so I don't know if it would be able to hold a charge for 2 days. The interface is easy to learn and you can master it in a few hours, the rotating bezel makes things easy. Typing on a small screen could be challenging; however, you have the little dictation icon on it so you can actually speak what you want to type. Voice recognition works great, I haven't had to re-dictate yet. The GPS is very accurate so you could use any program that would involve knowing your exact location, like Uber or Navigation. It also means that it tracks your distance and steps better than other wearables. Overall, a great looking watch capable of doing pretty much everything your phone does.

My husband got this for me for Christmas. I was not too thrilled when I hear we had to pay for a data plan for it. I am still having problems trying to get everything set up. On my Neo I would get my heart rate when working out, I don't on here and that was pretty important to me. I have looked at options and I haven't found anything yet, but that's the problem with this one, it is hard to find the options on most things. I wanted a face that showed me the weather and all I could find is the Weather Channel one which when you touch it it goes in to an hourly forecast but a lot of times it gets stuck and I have to reboot it. When I delete the alerts for email, even if I have looked at them, it downloads them again and beeps with every one. Getting 10 beeps in a row is very annoying. I have only used the phone feature once when someone called me. I don't know if it was Bluetooth from my phone or if it was the Gear itself but it was horrible. A lot of static. I never had that with my Neo. I also don't like that I have to carry around the charger. You have no other option and it isn't the smallest. And Samsung problem is that they never think of the woman that are using this. My Neo was big but this is much bigger and I have a very tiny wrist, so that is annoying. Plus on both there is a rubber type band. I thought it made it look cheap, so I bought a metal linked band. If you haven't had a product like this before, then you probably would like it's features because you have nothing to compare it to. There are a few options that are nice but I still like my Neo better.

Great Watch but not with iPhone

I know that Samsung finally released the Gear app on the Apple App Store, but it just doesn't do much good. Unfortunately I didn't see Samsung's table of feature compatibility until after I purchased the watch. I have been a Samsung user for years, but after too many returns due to defective phones (S3, S4, S5, Note 4), I broke down and bought an iPhone 7 Plus. Because I and a Gear 2 Neo (with coroded charging ports that had to get replaced), I wanted another smart watch with my iPhone. I tried the Apple Watch Series 1, and it was OK, but when Samsung made the Gear S3 compatible, I bought it to try it. I really like it, I think it is a great watch, but it only does limited email, text, and notifications when paired with an iPhone. Because I bought the AT&T LTE version, I decided to pair the watch with my old (and only part-time functioning) Note 4. The watch came alive. So much better when paired with the Samsung phone. I did have to take the sim card out of my iPhone and put it in the Note 4 for about a day to get everything (including Samsung Pay) setup properly on the watch and phone. Then I put the sim card back in my iPhone and left the Note 4 at home, turned-on, and plugged in. The watch was able to connect remotely back to the phone for certain alerts, texts, phone calls, email, etc.. It was great, though still not quite the same. But, unfortunately, in this mode, the watch's battery wouldn't even last a day. It had to do too much switching to LTE and WiFi to maintain a connection. It did work much better than just being paired via Bluetooth to an iPhone, but not like it should. Under those circumstances, I thought the Apple Watch was the better option; even if it still annoys me a bit. I tried, but I ended up returning the Gear S3. Maybe one day Apple will make a decent watch or Samsung will be able to up their compatibility.

Great smart watch - GSM 4G LTE connectivity without a phone. I'm using AT&T and have number sync with my phone's number, so *as long as the phone is off or in airplane mode* I get my texts and calls straight to the watch wherever I'm at. Thanks to the loop pay tech baked into Samsung Pay, I can use it to pay for things even when no NFC terminal exists - almost always to the delight of merchants. The downside is the glitchy nature of the software (Gear app on my android). My primary phone is an iPhone and use my Samsung phone primarily as a host for my watch. It's frustrating that even when you're connected the Gear store will tell you that you aren't and can't download apps or watch faces. The ability to control the way watch faces display info or apps share data, and even the limited apps available due to the fact that it's operating on Tizen OS makes for a slightly frustrating experience. I also own an Apple Watch (2nd Gen) and love it too - but the Samsung with Samsung pay and Independent LTE connectivity is much more capable. Bottom line, if you're a techie who can deal with a less than "Apple-easy" experience in order to have a true "unconnected" smart watch (that looks like a watch!!) that makes mobile payments (a much more secure way to pay as well) a cinch, go get the watch and you won't be disappointed.

My biggest like for this watch is the looks. It really looks great and feels nice. The band is extremely comfortable, the case looks great and there are a lot of neat looking faces available. Oh and the charge will last for several days. My biggest beef? This is the "explorer" model yet it isn't waterproof? This was A HUGE bummer. Samsung has been kicking Apple's butt for generations now with their phones being waterproof but now the Apple watch is waterproof but the Samsung isn't. Shame really... I have an iPhone 6s so the pairing can be a little finicky at times and there are some apps like Here WeGo that aren't available for whatever reason but I didn't get the watch for its compatability or integration...I got it because it looks, feels and acts like a nice watch that also does some neat tricks. So overall a great looking watch that always gets compliments, feels nice to wear and holds a charge for several days. Again my only reason for not giving 5 is I can't believe this thing isn't waterproof at all. This is the first watch I've worn in A LONG time that I have to worry about jumping into the pool with which is a major bummer.

The watch seems a little have at first, but after a week of steady wearing it feels completely normal. The Gear S3 has a good build quality and have had no problem attaching various bands. There are a few things i do not care for currently. The app store's lack of apps that are compatible with this device (which is sure to improve). If you plan to purchase this device having plans to insert an att compatible sim card, you must know that the Gear S3 ATT variant has its sim card hard wired to the circuit board. If you do not have service through ATT, your looking at spending 40$ a month to be able to use this device independently of a smartphone. Also, in regards to the sim card, you may use this variant 100% when paired through bluetooth or wifi. When you are disconnected from both, you will have an annoying alert that sounds and reads MM2 SIM NOT PROVISIONED every time you make any movement with your wrist. The error will not go away only with activating the sim card with ATT. Overall it's great smartwatch that you are sure to get noticed wearing.

Calls are not forwarded to Gear S3

This is good looking watch that works only in bluetooth connection. As a standalone watch fails miserably because the remote connection between my unlocked Note 8 bought from bestbuy and the watch works only partially since the calls from my cell phone cannot be routed/forwarded to the watch. My advice is to save yourself from the trouble of this call forwarding, so if you like the design of the watch, maybe is better to buy the bluetooth only version since the gear cannot forward calls. I had this very issue with Gear S, which i had sell because of the call forwarding issue, I returned Gear S2 after trying to setup the fall forwarding through the Gear app. Gear S3 Frontier is the same. The Gear app cannot forward calls from my Note 8 to the watch. Samsung, fire your software team responsible for the Gear app.

This is my first fauray into the smartwatch territory. I have wanted one for a while, but couldn't really afford one. Best Buy & AT&T gave me an amazing deal since I was getting a new Samsung Galaxy s7 Edge on the NEXT plan. So, I basically got it half off. And I paid for it with a gift card I got for trading in a REALLY old phone I never used! But back to the review...this watch has SO many features that I'm still discovering them a month later! It is durable, sporty (Gear s3 Frontier), and fun to use. I have it set up to use with or without the phone. So if I want, I can listen to Spotify playlists with bluetooth ear buds or take calls and get email or text messages at the gym and LEAVE MY PHONE AT HOME!!! Overall, I love it and would highly recommend it.
