Great camera, I have been a lifelong Canon guy and was really hesitant to switch. In the end, I really wanted the compact mirrorless design (it was this or a Canon 6D for my next purchase). Love everything about this, super easy to travel with, takes great photos. I couldn't be happier. Only downside is that because it is so new, lenses are a little hard to come by. I have read lots of great reviews with using Leica glass with this body, but I have not shelled out for a really expensive lens yet. Can also be a little slow, but for what I use it for it is not a problem. I am typically thinking out my shots and preparing, so I don't need speed. I would not recommend this if you are shooting sports (for sports I use a Sony A6000 which is an APS-C camera but ridiculously fast).

I love my Nikon D800 for travel photography. It's been my goto since it came out. The only thing I don't love about it is the size and weight. It's big and heavy when I travel. Now comes the Sony A7r. BAM. Same 36 megapixel "Sony" sensor in a tidy and pretty rugged size. Sony also pushing out a new line of premium Zeiss glass to get the most out if this new system. Having just sold my Sony NEX7, I took a chance. My reaction. This camera kicks butt. Sony has successfully advanced the state-of-the-art. I can now get full dslr quality in a smaller and more nimble size. So far, very happy with purchase.

I'm no pro but have been using slr cameras for a few years now. My humble opinion is that Sony may not be traditionally thought of as the standard of cameras when it comes to serious photography. Though to be on the cutting edge of advancement is anything but traditional. If you want to be normal stick with traditional. If you want to be part of an evolution of photography, get this camera. Concerned about all the money you've invested into lenses for other camera brands? Not to worry. With the right adapters you can still use them with Sony.

I've wanted this camera for 2 years now and finally did it. If you're serious about your photos then you need this full frame, mirrorless, digital camera. Sony is for innovation and if you believe in Sony like I do and trust them like I do then go with the A7r or any Sony camera. Full frame, no shame. I love it. I love my photos. Thanks Sony for taking my money in return for this beautiful camera.

Bought this camera for the weight. Needed something lighter than my DSLR for travel. Will be using it for travel within next couple of weeks. Mirrorless has so little weight and the pictures are amazing. Great buy.
