A: Hi firsttimer, yes, you can use the camera to both record videos and take pictures. You can take a picture by pressing the Photo button at the top of the unit. You can enable the Smile Shutter to automatically snap pictures whenever the camera detects a smile. Thanks_Mitch
A: Hi san12345, there are many differences between the two. The HDRCX670, for example, has a 5 axis image stabilization system for more control over camera shake.
