A: The Picture show that's only a sample :) Yes, The functions can be use as rear view mirror (Off Screen - as original but darker) or you can activate digital wide camera. split screen can show both wide angle front and back. it depend on your setup. so far I like this unit, if you want to spend extra amount, may be its better the to have 2k front and rear support to have a High quality output. this unit has only 1080 rear camera, its not sharp as the front camera and the color quality output when its lighted or dark it has a big difference.
A: What you are asking is what the G-Sensor is for. When it detects a jolt of sufficient level, the camera will save the current video file in a 'locked' folder so the loop recording can't overwrite the video which detected the impact. if the vehicle were in park mode, the G-Sensor would cause the unit to power on and record for around 30 seconds. While it obviously cannot catch the impact happening, the hope is it will catch the person as they leave the scene. I have a 1080p dashcam, definitely clear enough to read a license plate of a vehicle close enough to impact you. read a license plate at 50' would be more of a question than reading one 5' away from the cameras. You'll have no issues unless there is unexpected glare, like the sun rising/setting directly in view of the camera, or vehicle light shining directly into the camera. There are lots of youtube reviews on this and other mirror dashcams, they are worth watching. With tall vehicles, mounting the rear camera up high near the roof allows it to be angled downward more, so less likely to experience any glare issues, thereby seeing details like license plates even better.
Q: Can the VanTop front/rear mirror dash cam be installed by Best Buy Tech guys?
A: Yes they can. Pretty simple.
A: This does not have turn by turn GPS and does not sync with phone. The GPS feature is to give you accurate location information in case of accident and for speedometer.
A: I have only had this unit for a few days so far, but i noticed that there is a lot of glare with the rear camera. I have mounted it inside of the back window. And the unit I bought was the 2K front camera with the 1080P rear camera. I am considering returning the product and trying out the 2K front with 2K rear camera (which is the 4K unit). There is a setting in the menu to change the camera settings. However the unit as a whole is really good and the installation can be DIY if you don’t need the reverse camera feature. Hope this helps.
Q: Is the USB for charging the unit occasionally or does it require wired charging constantly
A: there are 2 power options: 1) the included is a 12v adapter which powers the camera only while the car is in operation. This means no, or very limited Park Mode. 2) this option is always an additional cabling kit. You would run a different USB cable from the camera, this time to your fuse panel. You pick an appropriate spot to tap into full time power (instructions will provide details), and the camera can then operate in Park Mode using the car battery. Park Mode differs on various units. Some only have Impact detection, others have motion detection as well. Motion detection units only operate that feature with option 2 power. Some units can do impact detection off an internal battery or super-capacitor, though it won't be many instances.
Q: Is this also a backup camera?
A: Yes it is. Better than the factory one the car has.
Q: Does the unit make a sound when you back up and get too close?
A: No it does not make backing up warning noise.
