Excellent Value and the Best Prepaid Plan Around

      • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

My prepaid iPhone is locked to Verizon's prepaid services, but I use Verizon's prepaid service anyway. The iPhone SE is great and almost a steal for $199. This phone has most of the features of the 6s but in a more pocketable size. You can compare on Apple's site, but the only real differences I saw were no 3D touch, 1.2 MP vs 5 MP front facing camera, and it doesn't mention that it has the second-generation Touch ID (but I have no issues with using the Touch ID on this SE model). It also doesn't have the video stabilization feature the iPhone 6s Plus model has. The camera and video quality are excellent. This even has the capability to do 4K video. Verizon prepaid plan is the best overall choice for us. Additional lines can be added, good customer service, hotspot (another device like a laptop or tablet can use your phone's data plan where a certain amount of data is purchased each month), get the same data speeds as postpaid customers except during times of congestion whereas other prepaid carriers THROTTLE data speeds all the time, can use a reusable plastic refill swipe card (after the card is entered the first time, funds that are added to the refillable swipe card after that are automatically credited to the account), have user-friendly phone app, "always on data" (after data runs out, you at least have a very low-speed data suitable for the most basic tasks), Wi-Fi calling (this is where you can use Internet to make/receive calls where the signal may be poor), and high definition voice and video. Check around not all of the prepaid carriers offer these features. At the time I wrote this review, Verizon limits video streaming on their prepaid device to 480p. Many prepaid carriers do this, but since I have a limited amount of data each month, this should be MY choice. Also, unlocking this prepaid phone in the future even to use with Verizon's postpaid account could be an issue. I am a long-time postpaid customer, but really am glad I switched to Verizon's prepaid and that the iPhone SE was available at this low price. No worrying about additional charges or contracts any more.

      Best Small Iphone

      1. Anyone who's used an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5S will feel at ease with the iPhone SE – it looks and feels almost identical, except now you can get it in a fetching colour and its cut edges are matte rather than shiny chrome. 2. The best thing about the design of the iPhone SE is that it still feels quality. The brushed aluminium back is both hard and cool to touch, the buttons are solid, and it’s easily small enough to use one-handed, regardless of the size of your hands. 3. The quality of the audio output is surprisingly good from such a small package – sound is balanced, if a little thin, and there’s no distortion at the highest volume. 4. Call quality is also strong. The ear speaker is clear and loud and the noise-cancelling mic does a good job of clearing up any distracting external noises when you're on a call. There are louder call speakers out there but I didn't have any problems hearing or making myself heard even on windy days with lots of traffic noise around me. 5. The rear iSight camera is where the iPhone SE gets interesting. It packs the same sensor and lens as the iPhone 6S, which means it has one of the most impressive phone cameras on the market right now. 6. There’s an incredible amount of processing muscle in the iPhone SE’s diminutive frame and it doesn’t get too hot or bothered by all that horsepower either. Touch ID also unlocks your phone more quickly than it does on the iPhone 5S thanks to the new processor 7. Even though it’s the lowest-priced iPhone we’ve ever seen, it’s still not cheap, especially since the 16GB option is inadequate for most users. However, if you look after it then its resale value will remain high. No other phones retain their value quite like this do.

Device was locked, even Verizon couldn't activate

      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

I loooooove the iPhone SE, which is the reason I purchased this phone to replace my beloved 4.5 year old iPhone5. I didn't want a larger phone, so the SE is a perfect replacement. The problem is that my SE (ordered online, picked up in store) was somehow locked, preventing me from even activating it with Verizon Prepaid. I tried to activate online, but that didn't work, so I had to call Verizon (which is what we all want to avoid). I hadn't even tried to install the SIM card, but as soon as I gave Verizon the MEID they said it was locked by the retailer and they couldn't do anything for me, that I had to return it to Best Buy. Fortunately I was helped by the very helpful Trevor, who was patient enough to try for over an hour to resolve the issue in store. Thanks to Trevor, it's finally activated and working. No one is sure how the phone arrived locked, but it sure was a hassle to unlock it. Also, be aware when you purchase this, Best Buy cannot activate your service with Verizon Prepaid - you have to do it online yourself, which may be a deterrent for many buyers.

      Nice Option

I needed an iPhone for my autistic phone to replace his iPod Touch (he's a huge music listener and it helps calm him, but I also wanted him to have his own phone to help him get a little bit more independent and to be able to keep in touch with his small circle of friends). I wanted to go with prepaid for him first to see how it goes but didn't want to spend a ton just yet. So I opted for this iPhone since it has some updated features without being the more expensive newest models. This one fits the bill. Easy to set up (once you know iOS its seamless to work with regardless of the device model). I also like that after making payments of about $150 it can be unlocked so that we can put him on a post paid plan when we see fit. It does run a little slow at times but I'm not sure if that's due to network congestion or if this model is one of the slowed down models due to battery issues (he hasn't had any issues with his battery....just slow connection at times). Definitely a great option if you want an iPhone but not pay too much. Great camera. Features that I have always loved on iOS. And most importantly, something that my autistic son is familiar with so he can work most of it's features with ease makes this perfect for him.

Great phone but Best Buy mess-up = can't activate

      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

I ordered online and had it delivered to my home. The phone itself is wonderful. My low rating is because I had to return the device. I could not activate it with Verizon Prepaid. Apparently the device and prepaid SIM card weren't scanned correctly at the Best Buy warehouse before it was shipped. That means it cannot be activated with Verizon Prepaid or anyone else, and it's not something that Best Buy store personnel can fix. I couldn't even get a replacement because it was out of stock. Best Buy needs to ensure that items are properly scanned before they leave the warehouse. I wonder how many of the complaints about the phone being locked are due to this scanning issue.

At first okay but now problems

      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

I purchased a couple of these from BestBuy. The first two worked well and were unlocked. Days ago I checked their IMEI numbers on the Verizon website and both showed they were ready for activation. Today the Verizon website says to contact Verizon customer service. I received two more today that have issues. Verizon's website won't verify that they're ready for activation on Verizon. Furthermore, the Best Buy invoice shows the IMEI number with additional numbers before it. Verizon customer service said that they weren't checked out properly. Back to BestBuy tomorrow.

The phone is CDMA locked, which means that you will not be able to use it with Sprint. However, the GSM/LTE radios enabled by the SIM card are unlocked. You can use this on T-Mobile and AT&T and anywhere else in the world that uses the standard that is GSM/HSPA/LTE. And for education LTE is a form of GSM evolved technology hence the SIM card. This resulted from Verizon's 700 MHz purchase via the FCC. They are honoring the agreement that the GSM portion will remain unlocked. I am currently using this phone with a T-Mobile Sim card and it is working flawlessly. So if you plan on using T-Mobile or AT&T you're getting a $400 phone for half the price.

      Great product but...

Thought this would be a good value to set up my youngest child with a brand new iphone. However, I tried calling both Verizon and Best Buy before breaking the seal on the box, to find out exactly how long I need to pre-pay for the phone service before converting to post-pay service. Verizon gave me 3 different answers, and BB another. I'm only 3 weeks into the first month of the pre-paid service and I'm still not certain. The sticker on the box says I need to pre-pay for up to 150.00 before converting to post-pay. None of the customer service people I spoke with gave this as an answer. If the sticker is true, then it is a good value.
