Q: Does it work with a MacBook Pro?
A: This item will work with a MacBook Pro.
A: The Mac Operating System uses a different file format system than Windows does. This drive comes formatted for Windows. Thanks to the Time Machine backup program being built into your MacBook, when you connect this drive to your MacBook, after a moment, it will ask you if you want to use this drive with Time Machine. Just select Yes, and your MacBook will take care of formatting the drive for you. Just acknowledge the message that it will erase all data on the drive (there is nothing on the drive when you first buy it anyway, except a couple basic utilities which are not needed), and then your computer does the rest for you.
Q: Does this drive use an external power supply or is it powered through the USB cable?
A: If you're asking whether it uses an AC plug/batteries, then no, just the USB cable. However, the USB cable needs to be connected to a device powerful enough to spin the fan. I tried connecting it to my phone with a dongle (it works on flashdrives), but my phone wasn't powerful enough to spin the fan so it couldn't connect. Other average devices (ie. laptops) will power it just fine.
A: This is a standard mechanical hard drive, not solid state. A 1TB external SSD would cost around $320 to $375, depending on the brand.

A: Yes. That is what I bought it for and it is working great!
