i purchased this for my basement media setup. This is excellent product with tons of features. Only Con. is cable connections, it is little tricky to the connectors.Otherwise everything else is good. One good feature is this is compatible with Yamaha mobile app. which will avoid me to spend money on multi-room remote, i have configured the app and able to operate the receiver over wireless from other entire room. Only Con on the app. is it doesn't come with network setup option, i have to use remote to setup wireless connection. it is not a big deal, it is onetime setup. Overall this is great product with many features!!!!

I am no audiofile and this is my first big receiver purchase in years so I am only giving it 4 stars because I not a stereo freak and may not see the faults. However, I paired this unit up with 7 speakers and 2 woofers (which do require either a seperate sub amp to power the woofers, or your woofers need to be self-powered) but so far this baby seems to rock hard and rock long. It doesn't get hot, it has good am/fm reception. It switches over to bluetooth music (from my iphone) smoothly and the remote control is well laid out and intuitive to use I think. That is all.

This system sounds great but it is not what I needed. I needed a zone 2 receiver. The 583 has a zone b, but it’s not the same as zone 2. I needed something to play music on my patio while playing the tv in the main room. This system cannot play 2 separate things. On another note this system is very complicated to set up. It took me a good month to figure out how to get it all set up only to find out it wouldn’t play the two separate zones. Yamaha support was great though. We emailed and emailed back and forth until they finally called me to say I needed to upgrade to the 683 to do what I needed. I’m returning this system today and have ordered the Denon 1400. Reviews show that it should do the job. I like that it also has Sirius XM, which the Yamaha didn’t have. It also has more HDMI ports. I will have to hold judgement on the smartphone apps between Yamaha’s MusicCast and Denon’s HEOS. MusicCast wasn’t bad, but it could be improved.

I was happy w/ RX-V671 but decided to "upgrade" to the RX-V583 for HD pass through capability & continue to be disappointed: 1. remote lost individual buttons to toggle between inputs/ you now have to toggle up/down & input surf; you might as well just get up to toggle inputs 2. can't ditch the dismal remote control because the Yamaha AV app will not find/preserve the wi-fi connection (ie you can no longer remote control receiver w/ Iphone or ipad) 3. you lose ability to listen to different inputs on Zone1 & Zone 2 simultaneously(ie 2nd room speakers) -- ie you have to listen to the same thing in both zones (not so w/ the older receivers) I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. In fact I'm very skeptical of Yamaha now as newer units are a step back in time. If you have an RX-V671 keep it. Save your money

I upgraded an older Denon AVR to the RX-V583 last weekend to support the 4K on my new Sony 4K TV I purchased from Best Buy in Feb. because Yamaha said it supported Napster and SiriusXM on their MusicCast feature. Well I got it home set it all up and no Napster or SiriusXM on the MusicCast app. Talked with Yamaha tech support and it appears that Yamaha messed up on their website and copied over the RX-V683 info on the MusicCast feature and you need to upgrade to the RX-V683 to get both services. Well to add insult to injury, I was at Best Buy yesterday to look at options and the RX-V583 is now $50 cheaper, $449.95 in the store but the 10% off special coupon was only good for a 1 time purchase so I can't use it on an upgrade to the 683 so I'm debating just returning the RX-V583 and looking at other options.

This is a nice product and is easy to set up. Be sure to take time to connect it to the internet and download all of the firmware updates. It's easy to do and can be done through one simple step. Without the update things can run a little less smoothly so it's worth the time. The app for this product has also come a long way, it's free and easy to use on the smartphone so I would definitely recommend getting it.

I went to the store with the intention of buying something different, but am glad we settled on this one. The sound quality is great and set up was pretty easy. I wish the sales person would have let me know that almost everything should be HDMI cables rather then RGB. Oh well, I just have to make another trip to hook up my WII and Apple TV.

I purchased this Yamaha receiver to replace and older model Yamaha receiver to pair with a new 75'' 4K Ultra HD TV. The connection was a snap and the sound on our surround speakers is terrific. I have been a fan of Yamaha for years, after having the old Yamaha for several years and having it perform very well. We even got the new one on sale and saved a few dollars.
