Terrible, piece of junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I should have written this review 2 years ago to warn the poor souls thinking if purchasing this laptop. The WORST investment I have ever made. From the get go, this computer lagged. It was NEVER right. I only ever used this laptop for the internet and for a couple apps. This computer has had NO use. No big downloads, no nothing. Everything about this computer should be fast. I'm so unhappy that it took me this long to figure out how bad this laptop actually has been. In the last two years I have used this laptop maybe once a month. That's how little use it's gotten. And the tiny bit I used it couldn't even do it without lagging every step of the way. Also the screen brightness is very dim even turned all the way up, the speakers are absolutely horrible. I can't believe they would sell a computer that runs so horribly. After two years I see the reviews on this laptop are awful. Even the Best Buy customer service told me that there is probably a defect in alot of these laptops. I had a computer expert come over today, he worked on it for two hours , and after everything, it ran just as crappy and lagged just as much. He said there is no reason why this computer should lag. I'm in the process of resetting the whole thing. I wasted $800 in a laptop that never worked. I saved up my money for a while to buy something nice for myself and this is what I got. Will never purchase an Acer again.

SAVE UR $$$
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My background: I am a college student majoring in a STEM field. I used this laptop for a lot of research, multitasking, and even use tablet mode a lot. Negative experiences include: 1. The battery can't go longer than 1 hour when browsing the web. Battery saver mode is hilarious, the laptop shuts down at 18%. I am willing to live with this because I can attach my charger, but there is a feeling of entrapment which is not the point of having a laptop. I don't want to have to worry about sticking to a wall outlet. 2. Learning the touchscreen does not support active stylus. I was willing to use a capacitive stylus, so I bought one. Yet it still inconsistently registers; making the thought of EVER writing on this laptop IMPOSSIBLE. I was hoping to interact with my notes digitally. At some point, I gave up styluses and used my finger, but even with my finger, the screen will go from having short latency to LONG latency; I'm talking about drawing a line and having the screen pick up that line two inches behind the starting point. While we're on this topic, the screen will sometimes glitch and activate everything on the screen at that moment, leaving me no choice but to force shut down the laptop or deal with the millions of pages that just appeared. This is terrible because it glitches my computer and I cannot use the track-pad to take control of the mouse because the glitch stops this function. When it glitches, I have to immediately press Fn+F11 (stops touchscreen function) and THEN force shut down my laptop. 3. The screen brightness is not very bright. Even on max brightness, it is difficult to see. Cannot use this laptop next to a window or have the screen in an angle that creates a glare. 4. The gestures while in tablet mode do not always work. I would like to multitask while in tablet mode and have achieved that once in my three years of owning it. Positive experiences: 1. The storage is dependable. I have hundreds of documents, photos, and videos and continue saving more. This laptop allows me to save without having to monitor my storage, and I appreciate that. 2. The SD card slot. I use microSDs and it is convenient to access them without having to get an adapter. There are enough ports on here for a content experience when needing to charge my phone, transfer files, and use a webcam. 3. Outershell durability. There are a couple of scratches on the finish, but I have had this laptop for at least three years. 4. Intel i7 is nice. Conclusion: If you got this laptop as a gift, or if you are just using this for facebook and youtube, then it's okay. Any work practicality is NOT happening. Don't waste your money on an outdated laptop.

Horrible laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a terrible laptop. From the start it had battery issues, never held a charge for longer than 30 mins. I just use it to surf online, check/write emails, I'm not a gamer. It also took forever to start up from the beginning. Acer customer service back then told me to use a paper clip to push in the reset button which made absolutely no difference. It's really slow too and I don't have much of anything saved or downloaded on this laptop that could slow the process. It's very annoying and useless in this day and age. I also had the 2 year Best Buy warranty/Geek Squad with it (my dear bf who gave me this for my bday wanted me to have no hassles with it). I turned it in to Geek Squad twice. Useless service by the way as well. They just ran a virus and spyware check (got that myself and had run it several times already, thank you) and told me they found nothing wrong with the laptop, the battery or any viruses. I should've turned it in before the 2 years were up but felt bad because the not computer savvy bf had gotten me the laptop for my bday, spent $1200 on it (crazy!!!), wanting to get me the best possible touchscreen (the poor thing fell for the Best Buy guy's sales pitch claiming this is one of the best on the market). We could have gotten a much nicer and better laptop for a few hundred less. I'm just annoyed by this thing, it's horrible. Slow, terrible battery life, but $1200 were wasted on it so I can't just put it aside and just get a new one. This has really cost me a lot of agony already. Don't buy!

Most Days, I Want to Chuck this Laptop in a Lake
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop in August 2016, and have been using it ever since. It was fine at first, but after a few months several problems started appearing. The screen cracked, and after trying to use the warranty on the device, but encountering Acer's terrible website, I gave up. Any time I plug this laptop in, the speed completely tanks, and when you have to plug the laptop in about every 45 minutes or it will die, it becomes quite the issue. The computer is extremely loud as well, causing a distraction in the classroom setting I use it in, as the fan is constantly running at 100%. The heat management system is just not good. I should have thought a little more about my purchase and regret being stuck with this laptop.

Battery Sucks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop summer of 2016, before I started college. It started off with minimal problems, but soon I realized there were quite a few. It was able to handle excel, word, etc., but things were very slow. I rarely used the touch screen functionality, but that was just because I prefered a keyboard. It was pretty durable, I dropped it twice off a table and it just has a crack on the outer shell. Touchscreen is crack free. The charger broke after 2 years, so I had to buy a new one. It was almost impossible to find a compatible charger. My laptop now will only charge if the charger is in at a specific angle and will die on me randomly. It maybe lasts 45 mins without being plugged in. After nearly 4 years, I am fed up with this laptop and will not be purchasing another Acer. I have talked to other friends who also had battery/charger problems with their Acer laptop.

Not worth the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At the start this laptop was phenomenal. The battery would last a few hours, high quality screen display and touchscreen. However the issue is with the durability of the internal processing, the battery, and the overheating. I use this laptop all the time for school and personal use, this often will require me to be on it consistently throughout the day. However, after owning it for approximately 17 months the battery life is maybe 45 minutes requires to be plugged in constantly. Anytime the laptop is plugged in, the speed is cut down to about a fourth of what it usually would be and will only pick up if it is A) unplugged or B) stays plugged in till fully charged and then some in which case you would be better off buying a desktop. On top of this, for some reason anytime I move the laptop too much it will simply do a small restart where the screen locks and I have to wait a minute to unlock the screen. Overall I was very dissatisfied for the amount of money I put in and would certainly consider looking to other laptops.

Screen cracks!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good to know its not just me about the screen. I've had mine for about a year and treat it like gold cause I paid so much for it. About 900 bucks. The screen cracked and I didn't even see it at first and didn't know why my touchscreen was acting up. I teach student online and it was really affecting the classes. Finally found the crack and its like cancer.... It's gotten so worse within the last 2 weeks and now it's all over the whole screen. Lucky I could turn off the touchscreen at least so I can still teach my classes. But really?? I could just cry. It's not even paid off yet and I use this to edit my photography work as thats what I do for a living and I'm having trouble finding someone who will repair it. It's a completely unnessecary repair too because it should never have cracked in the first place. Not having touch screen really affects my classes too. So upset. And I've never had an issue with Acer before.

- A:Answer All Acer laptops ship with an AC adapter that supports 100v-240v. The only thing you would need is an adapter for the plug end of the US power cord to fit the outlets outside North America.

Q: QuestionI see it comes with a SSD. Can a HDD be added for extra storage?
Asked by Darkshadow.
- A:Answer While this system has a slot for a 2.5" hdd, on models that ship with an SSD only a bracket and cable are not included to add a 2.5" drive to the system.

Q: QuestionI have been trying to connect my Acer R15 Aspire, core i5 to my TV with an HDMI cable - no luck. Is the HDMI outlet an import or an outport outlet?
Asked by Romar.
- A:Answer You should be able to connect it to a TV via HDMI. Please note we cannot guarantee you will not have problems if you are using an adapter to connect. The problem could be a bad HDMI cable as well. If you find the HDMI port is not functioning on the Chromebook, please contact Acer support for assistance. Q: QuestionDoes this laptop support Microsoft Ink? I realize it does not come with a stylus, but if you purchase the correct stylus, is the software built in to supportit? If so what would be a good stylist to purchase?
Asked by Bobby.
- A:Answer I can't say for certain about the SSD hard drive model, but we have the SATA hard drive model of the Aspire R15 (R5-571T-57Z0) and after days of researching for a compatible stylus, discovered in an online chat with Acer that it does NOT support ANY stylus at all!! It was absolutely inconceivable to us that a touch screen windows 10 device (with windows ink) would not support a stylus!! We also had great difficulty getting it up and going, and now are dealing with glitches, skips and lags in the software we've installed. Now we find out we can't use a stylus!? There are no words to describe our outrage, and regret over this purchase. I suspect that this model is exactly the same only with an SSD hard drive, so it would most likely also not support a stylus. If you haven't yet bought this piece of junk, do yourself a favor and DON'T!!! if you have...my sympathies.
