Light yet awesome
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Battery power life, display, weight and price when purchased were perfect for browsing, streaming movies music. Installed open Office. Removed some bloatware. Bluetooth, micro HDMI worked great. Inserted a 32GB ultra microSD for downloaded files and created docs. High-speed wireless LAN 802.11 N really worked. No optical drive is no big deal. Got an extra external DVD writer. Will update if a Bluray writer could work smoothly. Highly recommended for particular usage considering the specs.

Capable and Portable!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For what I paid (less than 150) this laptop is a very good deal. Solidly built all around, with more capability than a chromebook it works quite well. Yes it is slow at times, but those moments are fewer and farther apart than I expected. I was looking for a very portable machine that could run whatever a windows box could. This machine does that well. It isn't fast, it isn't powerful, but for this price you don't expect that. It is simply a solidly built, extremely portable machine that can run a full MS Office Suite when you need it. A nice sized track pad and an almost full sized keyboard makes working with it comfortable. In fact I am typing my review here on this device. The only thing I do not like is how badly fingerprints show on the dark blue model.

Awesome travel laptop with some quirks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picked this up for $99 during a holiday sale. Even if I paid $200 I think I would still be satisfied. You just have to make sure you're realistic with your expectations. As a travel laptop this is almost perfect: small, lightweight, 10+ hour battery life, and runs a full OS. Office runs fine and even was okay with photoshop CS2. The reason I say almost perfect is because of the micro sd card slot. I tried to install a 64gb samsung card and it was too thick to fit, and ended up ruining the card. Bought a PNY 32gb card after and it worked fine. The micro sd slot has a spring that engages when you push in and push out. So for bigger micro sd cards just make sure it fits smoothly into the slot; there should not be any friction/resistance. The samsung card was hard to fit in and I tried to force it. Luckily I got it out with some tweezers. To ASUS' credit, they say it supports up to 32gb micro sd cards. So I'm wondering if it's because of the thickness of higher capacity cards. As a primary laptop, this isn't going to play top tier games or run a full graphic suite. Then again if you are trying to do that you're not looking at a $200 laptop. This would be perfect for a business traveler trying to get some work done, or a student who needs a class laptop they can damage with little loss.

This is a decent laptop than Windows tablet.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The performance of this laptop is almost exactly the same as Windows 8.1 tablet on the market today. But cheaper and does not cost an additional cost of accessories. In addition, the notebook is lighter than the combined weight of the tablet and the keyboard. It's the weight of this product is only 950g! The viewing angle of the TN screen is also useful. I am satisfied with both screen brightness and colors. No usb 3.0 ports on the laptop. However, the performance of the product into the usb 3.0 z3735 cpu seems you do not need much. The battery of the laptop seems to be going for more than six hours. Of course, I was surfing the web with a laptop and paperwork. This laptop has a different charging terminals from other notebooks. I can not describe what I'm seeing is a first look. It is a small square shape. If it had not only these drawbacks, I would have given a perfect score on the laptop.

Great Little Laptop.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to see if I have been missing something new about Windows. For the last couple of years, I have been using Android and Chromebook devices. I have two older Windows devices (newest is 2 years old) and I don't use them a lot. About all I do on them is run Quicken. So when I saw this little laptop at about 1/3 of the price of my old ASUS laptop, I bought it.. I am really happy that I did. It is really light (2 lbs. 2 oz.) and works very well. It loaded and ran Quicken 2015 from a portable USB CD/DVD drive and will also wotk with my portable USB 1 TB Hard drive. As received, it had 16.9 GB free from the 20.8 GB drive C:. It's Passmark CPU Mark = 994. It has loadedand run all the Apps that I have tried from the Windows Store. On the Windows Desktop, there is a Icon for the E-Manual. It is 110 pages and very good for the laptop and learning Windows 8.1. It will last about 6 days on the battery in "sleep" mode. It's few shortcomings are it is not a touchscreen and there are no external indications that it is in "sleep" mode. It will recharge from 7% to full in under 2 hours. The more I use it, the better I like it.

Great starter machine
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this asus on a flash sale. Great price. It is a replacement for my wife's old netbook which was way too slow and couldn't support streaming video. This doesn't have an Ethernet connection, but does have hdmi so it was perfect for our backup use when travelling. For general internet use it is quite fast and downloaded pages as fast as my Dell Precision workstation. I also installed all my standard 32 bit programs, which work fine on it, including even an old DOS program. The only problem I ran into is lack of Ethernet port to transfer data quickly between my desktop and this laptop. So I use wifi, but transfer gigabits of data between 2 machines is slow if using wifi. Streaming video worked great, no buffering. The only real downside is lack of storage. You can plug in a 32 or 64 gb class 10 sd card for added storage if needed. I won't upload any of my pix to this machine but will keep them on the sd card. I also customized the start screen to let me run my own programs which do not show up in the windows 8 program list and got rid of most of the annoying standard windows 8 tiles.

Amazing for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this on sale for $140, which influenced my choice. Unbelievable deal. A real computer, with a keyboard and a decent sized screen, and Windows 8.1 for just a little more than Windows would cost! It's not super fast, and built in storage is only 32gb, but, hey, consider the price! The keyboard and track pad are fine, screen looks good, and it has USB and micro SD slot ( unlike Macbook Air). VERY LIGHTWEIGHT, thin, just like the Air, at 1/10th of tge cost. I don't know how well it will hold up, but if it lasts a year, it's a big win for me. I put Open Office in it and Dropbox and Chrome. They all work perfectly. The only upgrade I added was a 64 gB SD card forc $30, which gives me 96 gB storage.

Meets expectations for $125
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Quite responsive for a person using a HP Envy 17 CTO quad core i7 with 16gb of ram and SSD and Hybrid drive. At $150 or less this Asus is a great secondary machine for light usage. Typing is a breeze. Uninstalled the microsoft office trial that was included and downloaded a new one from my office 355 student account and it works well. The Webcam being only 0.3mp it is usable and quite clear when I tried it on Skype. It also outputs a decent sound from the speakers below the front left and right. The addition of a micro SD card slot is a huge plus for a 32gb model. Pros: Small Lightweight Almost the size of a full keyboard Big trackpad Fast starting time and no need to shut down, just close the lid and be back on what you're working on when you open the lid Battery life is great Comes with 100gb clouddrive space now known as Onedrive Microsd slot Micro Hdmi out Cons: Proprietary charger For the overall performance I couldn't really say that it is slow because for that price range I knee beforehand what I was purchasing so I did not put a high expectation in performance. It loads images and videos fast due to its quad core processor that handles more data crunching at the same time. As of now I am not sure if the other parts inside could be upgraded for a speed boost, bit if possible I'll be using my spare parts to make it happen.

Q: QuestionWhich is better: The ASUS X205TA or the HP Stream 11?I need to find out which one would be best.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer The Stream 11 is "better", but also more expensive. The ASUS has been on sale a few times and I picked one up at $140 instead of the Stream 11 for $200. That was enough to make the difference, otherwise I wouldve gotten the Stream.
