Q: Battery
A: Mine is brand new and the battery indicator in the Taskbar indicated just over 4 hours on a full 100% charge.
A: If you're adventurous It looks like the bottom could be removed by taking out the 10 screws and I would think the HD and memory is readily accessible. Just watched a YouTube video on a different model and it looked fairly easy. I don't have a SSD recommendation.
A: This does not have a backlit keyboard.
Q: Where are the speakers located on this laptop?
A: The speakers are located on both sides. The edge is beveled and its towards the front side if the laptop. It shouldn't get blocked even if you are using it on your lap. I often have mine on my lap, too, and I have no problem with it. Though, this laptop has week speakers. I suggest you get a bluetooth speaker. The Insignia one ($25) is good and affordable.
