Get it on sale
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've done a review of the other advantage G15, but i finally got my hands on this one. Okay, 2 differences between the AMD Advantage Edition Strix laptops. One is 1080p with 300hz refresh rate, this one is 1440p with a refresh rate of 165hz This model has the Ryzen 9 5980HX CPU, the other one has the Ryzen 9 5900HX Theres really only one negative about this laptop. It has a slow, 512GB SSD. Which just isnt enough storage for anyone. This laptop uses gen 3 SSDs, gen 4 does work, but you wont get the full potential of them, so save your money and get a gen 3. Very upgradable, with 2 m.2 slots, 2 slots for DDR4 RAM, wifi adapter located under the SSD, and the battery can be replaced fairly easily. Cooling is top of the line, dual fan, with 4 exhaust vents towards the back, and a vapor chamber. When not gaming and using battery, this laptop can get well over 8 hours from just browsing the web, and watching videos. Aside from that, the GPU is a RX6800M, which as far as performance goes, falls in-between the Nvidia RTX 3070 and 3080. I should also mention that this thing is a fingerprint magnet. Get a microfiber cloth. Lastly, as the title of this review says, get this on a sale, and do it soon! I bought this laptop while it was on sale for $1099 (October 2022) Just over 1200 after taxes. Its very possible that this laptop will be discontinued soon, so the next sale could be the last one. The 1080p model is no longer listed, so its a matter of time now. 9.5/10

Better options available for its price range
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Build quality is good. Despite the power it packs it is not a heavy laptop. Sound wise Asus did a great job much more dynamic and vibrant sound effects. Laptop doesn’t heat up much. Cons: Graphics card can’t compete with rtx 3060 even at a higher capacity. Lags in games and has a huge performance drop when ray tracing enabled. Laptop does not have a webcam, bothered me from the start. Some buttons are squeaky since day one. Too noisy in performance mod.

ROG Strix G15 is the best BANG FOR YOUR BUCK
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has been great so far. I have been using it almost daily for about a month now and got it on the sale price $1099. PROS: - Very fast and responsive - Keyboard feels satisfying to use and the RGB customization is really good and looks amazing - Charging speeds are really good (I have it set to charge to 80% so the battery health is better over time) - Display is really good, the colours and refresh rate make it fun to use. The viewing angles are also really good. I have not used the display outside under direct sunlight so I cannot comment on the outside visibility. - Battery life is great for a gaming laptop, I tend to always have the RGB on (on static mode) with 75% brightness on, and it can get you through the day without a problem. CONS: - Device can be pretty hefty to carry around especially in a bag because the charger it comes with is really heavy (Although you can charge the laptop via USB C using any charger which is convenient) - There is no numpad which can be an issue for people that do work with a lot of numbers, but a bluetooth numpad can be purchased to make up for that - Easily picks up sweat/grease marks so if your hands/fingers/wrists tend to get sweaty it will show up on the keyboard and surrounding areas NOTE: This is the newer model manufactured Feb 2022, so I haven't faced any issues with wi-fi, or the ram and ssd being slow. Also I have upgraded from a laptop that I was using for around 6 years so my experience will feel much different than someone upgrading from a recent laptop purchase.

A Solid Laptop with a few imperfections
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.NOTE: I BOUGHT THIS RENEWED! This laptop is very energy efficient when tuned. Turning on battery saver and setting the panel to 60hz in windows, I can get 6-8 hours of web browsing with twitch streams in the background (with uBO installed ofc) and slicing g code files for 3D printing, which is rather heavy on resources in bursts. The frame consists of metal in some parts and plastic in others and feels rather durable albeit heavy. The lack of a MUX switch is upsetting to some but not a dealbreaker for me. The RGB is cool I guess. Thankfully, you can turn it off if you'd like to save battery or hate "rainbow puke". The plastic trim on the back left is a cool touch as well. I wish ASUS supplied a 3D file for this trim somewhere as I'd love to print some of my own in other colors. The media controls are in decent locations and I appreciate their inclusion, but a lack of numpad will be a deal breaker for some. After buying I upgraded the RAM to 64GB and the SSD to a 2TB one and installed my homemade Windows 10 install to it and benchmarked it. The hardware when pushed to it's limits is on par to a 3700X and 2060S when plugged in, and 2700X and 1660 when running on battery (at the cost of significantly shorter battery life). Raytracing is horrible on this tho as it is a 6800M which is AMD, so avoid if you want good RT (but frankly, RT is a gimmick). The 12GB of VRAM is total overkill, but frankly, that's not a bad thing (take notes NVIDIA). Thermals aren't exceptional when maxed out (low 90s and upper 80s), but I've never seen any heavy power throttling or 100C temps so the cooling system is good enough by my standards. This hardware is rock solid for the $1100 I paid for it. The USBC charging is amazing and should be a standard for all laptops. It can also have USBC-DP out and HDMI out. The IO ports on the laptop are shockingly decent for an ASUS let alone a gaming laptop. Contrary to many, I never had any WiFi issues over many hours of wireless storage network file transfers and my ram issues couldn't be replicated as I upgraded the ram from the get-go. Cons: I do not like the fact that the screen part of the laptop frame protrudes ever so slightly when closed. Not a dealbreaker, but show's that Best Buy's and/or ASUS' QC could be a little better on refurbs. I tried bending the frame back but cracked the screen as a result. After replacing the screen, the protrusion came back so I'm just gonna leave it as is. Another thing I dislike is how they push Armory Crate for their laptop. I like to keep as little bloat on my laptop as possible. Unfortunately, customizing the RGB also requires this for some reason. Disassembly is also annoying as you have to carefully remove two ribbon cables when opening up the back panel. I tore one of the ribbon cable sockets off as I wasn't careful enough. A little glue fixed this but a "lego connector" or some other connection type instead of a ribbon latch would be smarter. Lastly, There's a lighting feature on the ROG logo on the back of the laptop that I wished was configurable, but isn't. 8/10; a steal for $1100, but would look elsewhere at MSRP ($1550-1800)

Best laptop for the price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a refreshed model that has a better processor and other changes compared to the previous version. It no longer has the cooling issue that earlier versions had. They've appeared to have resolved the liquid metal issues. For the price I paid (on sale), this is an incredible value. It goes toe to toe with full powered RTX 3080 laptops but has an 8 core/16 thread processor. The build quality is really high end, the keyboard feels great, the cooling is good, the speakers have good detail and the screen is much nicer (QHD). Only recommendation I have is to upgrade the storage because 512GB is kind of light. The RGB lighting is very awesome. I prefer this to the Legion 5 Pro. Those laptops feel very basic and their keyboards don't feel too premium compared to this. It also has, most importantly, a USB-C port that's DisplayPort compatible.

Literally one of the best deals you can get
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item has been on sale for $1099.99. My laptop arrived with no issues detected so far! It came with two 8gb sticks of ram onto the motherboard which is way better than the single 16gb stick of ram they were adding before. I still plan to upgrade to 32gb down the line however, this laptop is POWERFUL. What is even more amazing is how cool this laptop stays! I made adjustments such as disabling turbo boost and it stays around 70-76c in temps. Speakers aregreat as well although i wish the treble/highs were a bit better. It has no issues in the bass category. The chassis of the laptop is on the thicker side, however as stated before the laptop runs very cool! Overall a really good deal considering its Qhd at 165hz panel! GOW4 and Spider-Man look amazing on this laptop and can run on ultra qhd but again i do plan on upgrading the ram.

Great machine at the (sale) price.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great little machine, for the price, at least. I got this on sale for $1100. The Ryzen 9 5900 cpu flies through everything from spreadsheets to development and database queries, and so far, it runs my current gaming obsession (Valheim) with aplomb at ultra settings. While the 6800M is at this writing AMDs top mobile gpu, there are a few Radeon mobile gpus that best it (3070s and 3080s). The QHD display is beautiful (imh0). The machine is smaller and lighter than my previous laptop (a 6 year old Lenovo Edge 15) with the same size screen. Some may miss the numeric keypad, but I find it to be quite usable. A couple notes: I said I like the keyboard and the display, and I do, but I have ordered a 38" UWQHD monitor (Alienware AW3821DW) so I can put two FHD windows side by side, as I find that ability handy for my development work. When using that configuration, I will close the laptop and use my newly acquired mechanical keyboard (Glorious GMMK2), which is delightful to type on. (I am using it to type this review.) If Best Buy allows editing of reviews, I will update this review with information on how the 6800M handles the the higher resolution.

Q: QuestionNo mux switch means around a 15% loss in gaming average fps when not connected to external monitor correct? So this is a pass for me if I don't intend to use an external monitor?
Asked by Yoda.
- A:Answer The percentage you mention really only applies to esports games. The difference gets much smaller with more GPU demanding titles. Ultra settings in a AAA with the 2K screen, you’re talking about only a handful of FPS, basically negligible.
Answered by Mark
Q: QuestionDoes it still have the bad ram and the lack of mux switch?
Asked by Jj.
- A:Answer No Mux switch and Ram is fixed with new batch
Answered by Bruh
Q: QuestionIs it still going to be liquid metal for the CPU cooling? Also, will you be able to change to DISCRETE only graphics in the motherboard BIOS to bypass CPU graphics?
Asked by Yoda.
- A:Answer Yes, CPU has liquid metal cooling and so does the GPU. No, u can't do that directly as it doesn't have a mux switch. But connecting to an external monitor will allow direct access to the dedicated GPU.
Answered by passerby
Q: QuestionHey ASUS, Will the HDMI port bypass the igpu? Or is the type C/DP port required to bypass it (also finding a DP to Type C cable is kind of hard, is this a normal cable or is one included)? I know this laptop has no MUX switch, will HDMI work to bypass?
Asked by Yoda.
- A:Answer Various reviews from what Ive seen have said that the HDMI port does not connect directly to the dedicated GPU, but the USB-C (DP 1.4 spec) does.

Q: QuestionWhat is the maximum RAM the laptop can use: 32GB or 644GB?
Asked by nick.
- A:Answer It supports up to 2 x 32gb 3200mhz laptop ram, I am pretty sure it only has two ram slots, so you have to use two 32 gb strips, it will not go higher than a total of 64gb though, because that’s all the ryzen 9 5980hx allows.

Q: QuestionIs this a real laptop that's actually coming out?
Asked by Zergleb.
- A:Answer its in stock today, grab it while you can!

Q: QuestionCan local geek squad upgrade with additional memory and hard drive when order comes in?
Asked by Knull.
- A:Answer I believe the answer to that would be yes. But they will probably charge a fee. Its actually pretty simple to upgrade the RAM and storage on the ROG Strix G15. I did it for mine. Just remove the screws from the bottom of the panel (there are 11 of them). Carefully remove the panel, don't force it open. Be careful when removing it since the light bar is connected to the motherboard. Once removed you will see 2 black heat pads. The memory is underneath. The SSD is located to the left of that. For the memory just make sure you buy DDR4-3200MHz (thats the memory for the Ryzen 9 5900HX). You can also watch several videos on YouTube showing how to do it. Hope this helps.

Q: QuestionCan a Gen 4 2 tb nvme be install? What about 4tb gen 3 nvme? Is replacing the original nvme a good idea? Reinstall the window os on 2 new nvme drive?
Asked by BushyAsian.
- A:Answer Its highly recommended to upgrade the SSD. Gen 4 will work, but if its cheaper, just get a gen 3, as youll only see gen 3 speeds if you use a gen 4. This laptpp supports up to 4Tb of storage
