Thankfully in no way resembles a Disney Mo
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Years ago when this was released in France/Germany, I purchased it through the Fr Amazon for my daughter. Though neither of us speak or understand French it's been one of our favorite movies? She is now 17 years old...came out of her room the other day so excited that they were selling this in the states now dubbed in English. Without hesitation... I took a quick look online to see if it was in stock at my local Best Buy...yes!!! I got right in my truck without delay....thank you BestBuy :) We stayed up until 4am watching it together. Surprisingly we were pretty on target with what we though was going on in the French version. Anyone who is a Beauty and The Beast fan will absolutely love this movie. The French need to remake every fairytale as they have done Beauty and the Beast. I must also add that if you are not into fairytales as represented by American films for toddler/child/family genre this IS the film for you :) It truly is an adult/pg13 film with a great story to tell. The Beast will frighten a toddler and most children under 8-10 depending on your child in a part or two. Either way, it wouldn't hold a very young child's attention for very long at all anyway. They're not going to see a Mother turned into a teapot lol.... This is pure drama, a fantastic plot, wonderful acting....The only thing I can say negative which is really a compliment is, I wish the movie was longer.....not because I felt it wasn't finished but because I felt I didn't want it to end :) Enjoy buy it!!!

Better than the 2017 Disney film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Vincent Cassel (Oceans 12) and Lea Seydoux (SPECTRE) were solid casting choices. While Christophe Gans' 2014 French film isn't quite as magical as Jean Cocteau's 1946 classic, it's visually stunning and an interesting departure in plot from the two Disney adaptations. Like the earlier Cocteau film, Belle has multiple siblings here, one of whom see a potential financial windfall after hearing their sister's tales of Beast's castle they suffer from the loss of their father's fortune. There's also a rather interesting subplot in flashback dreams which explains a different origin story for the castle's curse from other film adaptations. Also worth checking out from director Gans is the period French martial arts cult classic THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF.

Faithful and Imaginative
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A really cool re-imagining of the classic fairy tale (Note: This isn't an adaptation of the Disney movie) that brings really interesting concepts and visuals to an audience that may not have known the true Beauty and the Beast story. If you've only seen the Disney versions I'd happily recommend this as it adds new elements from the original story that makes this *ahem* tale as old as time feel fresh again. Worth a watch.

Great Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was blown away by this movie! The whole vibe was deep, right from the beginning, and you get pulled into this retelling of the fairy tale that is a modern day classic in it's adherence to the original motifs. There were no singing and dancing inanimate objects, Belle did not burst into song, Beast was definitely beastly, but overall, this is hands down the best rendition that I have seen because it sticks very close to the original. Yes, it is originally a French movie that is dubbed in English, but that detail becomes unnoticeable as you fall deeper into this beautiful story.

Stunning version of Beauty and the Beast
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A version one of my kid's really prefers so we got a copy of it. The visuals are stunning and defiantly worth a watch. It is not like the Disney one though so if your kid is as huge fan of that they might not like this. If you are into classic fairy tales though this is for you.

Another Look at Beauty and the Beast
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beauty and the Beast is one of the world's most beloved fairy tales, and over the years, it has been memorable films, television series, and, of course, read by millions. This is another beautiful adaptation you will enjoy, and it obviously will not be competition for the soon to be released Disney live action adaptation of its classic animated masterpiece and stage musical.

Another good version of this story
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although Beauty & the Beast has been done many times, this is another good version to add to your library. You will recognize some familiar pieces from other versions, but this one has new twists & added characters. It is visually awesome, & I enjoyed watching the blu ray disc on a large screen 4K upscale. This one has more story than music & was a pleasure to watch.

Olde World Charm
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Many of our beloved fairy-tales are European, so when Europeans get to present their version of a story, it's always worthy of consideration. Vincent as Beast is authentic and this more realistic (if that's possible in a fantasy) take on the tale is engrossing, if not all sweetness and (Disney) light.
