Great projector for movies
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great for bedroom wall. Sound is decent. Hooked it up to my Apple TV works perfect. Picture quality is great. I put it on a tripod so I can move it around. I’m glad I bought this instead of putting a TV on the wall.

Portable, Entry-Level – It Gets the Job Done
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Ematic LCD Projector is compact, portable, has a low price point (under $100), and is basic in function. Included in the package are the projector, remote, lens cover, AC power adapter, User Manual, and a Quick Start Guide. Be aware that the two AAA batteries required to power the remote are not included. The unit has a headphone jack, AV input, 2 HDMI Inputs, a VGA port, and can accommodate a Micro SD card or USB input. You can watch movies/television via connection with a TV, computer, streaming stick, or video player. You also have the capability to view content stored on USB or Micro SD cards. Approximate measurements of 8”x6”x3.5” make it very compact. It’s portability makes it perfect to take camping or for use in presentations. The remote is small but not tiny (slightly larger than 5.5”x 1.75”) and fits well in the palm. The addition of an area to attach/store the remote on the unit when not in use would be welcome. Both the projector and the remote are made of a white plastic and neither feels extremely durable. The buttons on both the remote and top of the unit are pretty self-explanatory but their functions are explained in both the Quick Start Guide & User Manual, as are the different ways to connect the projector to various input devices. Set up was very simple requiring only the installation of the batteries in the remote and the connection of the power adapter to the projector. I opted to attach the unit to my laptop. Prior to doing so I did read the instructions in the manual as well as watched a video online. I used a 15pin video cable for the connection and after adjusting the settings for my computer and the projector I was in business. It took me a few tries to fine tune the picture using the keystone and focus knobs. When the unit first powered on the fan noise was loud but became less pronounced over time. I did not purchase a screen to view on. I just used an empty wall. The picture was clear and bright in my living room after I dimmed the lights. When I moved the setup to a basement room with no windows the picture was much brighter and it remained clear when adjusted to the largest possible size (150 inches). Keep in mind this projector only increases the size of the image it’s projecting–it does not improve the clarity of the image. If your image is of poor quality to begin with, enlarging it will most likely emphasize this. The speakers are mediocre, especially in comparison to the stereo surround-sound that I am used to, but they serve their purpose and the volume level can get pretty loud. This projector delivers as promised-nothing spectacular but you definitely get your money’s worth.

Low Cost, High Value but know what you're buying
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There's zero question in my mind when it comes to watching movies - bigger is always better. There's just no substitution to watching you favorite actor on the big screen....a REAL big screen. At just $99 the Ematic EPJ590WH projector promises up to 150" of big screen action. Does it deliver? Well my answer is....kinda! PROS - Cost: At $99 you can't really get any less expensive and expect much. - Ease of Use: It really couldn't be any easier to set-up. There is a power cord in the box and a remote to control the input, menu, and power. I was able to plug in an AppleTV and the HDMI input recognized the source immediately. I even plugged in my iPad Pro using a USB-C to HDMI adapter and again, no issues. - Portability: The projector is light and seems durable enough. There is a dust cap to keep the lens clean while transporting. - Mounting screw: While any projector has screw holes designed for mounting, the Ematic has a central mounting screw hole that fits with most standard tripods. If you're not mounting on a ceiling I highly recommend using a tripod - more on that below. CONS - Picture Adjustment: There are two main adjustment rings on the top that control the focus and keystone. The size of your image is solely dependent on your distance from the screen. While most true theater purists would tell you that any digital adjustment to the picture size invites picture imperfections, this is just a case where the picture options are basic. My theater screen is 120" so I mounted the projector to a tripod and adjusted the height and distance to best shoot straight at my screen. I had initially attempted to use a table to set the projector on and use the single height foot to angle the image up and correct with keystone, but the image resulted in a focused top and blurry bottom. Even with the tripod, it was very difficult to level the image so it appeared straight. Sound Volume: Hey, what do you expect for a $99 projector? I fully expected the sound quality to be subpar, but my biggest concern was that there was very little volume. In my opinion there's no way you would want to watch a movie and listen through the projector. Fortunately, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack that easily connects to any portable speaker you may have. PICTURE QUALITY: Neither a pro nor a con. The picture quality is what it is. It's a 480P projector that accepts 1080P sources. In layman's terms it understands HD sources but projects DVD or standard def quality images. At 120" the projector was watchable, but any larger it started to be VERY blurry. Still, by moving in a bit and projecting a 90"-100" image it's kind of impressive how well this $99 projector works. You're there to watch a movie, get lost in a story, and you can certainly accomplish that with a DVD quality image. What did we do back when we only had VHS!? :) Would I recommend this? I would ....depending on what you're looking to use it for. This would be a great way to keep your kids entertained by hooking up a Wii or Switch. This would be an affordable outdoor projector that you could use without having a panic attach anytime you saw a cloud in the sky. It would even be a fun projector to take to that relative who still watches the news on a 24" TV and talks about what a hunk Sydney Poitier was. Just don't buy this and expect it to give you a high end home theater experience. Expect to spend $400-$500 on a budget HD projector if you want a real experience. Reminder: Get a tripod if you don't expect to mount this on the ceiling. A $20 investment will save you a LOT of heartache trying to get a straight picture.

Lightweight, compact and inexpensive but not great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ematic EPJ590WH LCD projector offers an inexpensive solution to users wanting an alternative to hauling around a large monitor or investing in a high-end video projection system. Keeping in mind that high resolution projectors cost between $1,000 and #2,000, this item at a fraction of that cost is exactly that – a low-cost alternative with corresponding features and resolution. PROS: - Weight: this unit is extremely lightweight. I would have no problem packing it in my suitcase for a longer trip or even packing it in a carry-on bag. - Aesthetics: It is simple in design and attractive enough for use just about anywhere. - Ease of set-up: take it out of the box, plug it in, connect an HDMI cable to the unit and a source, turn it on, select the source from the fairly-intuitive menu, and you are projecting CONS: - Resolution: the image is low resolution (800 x 480). Compare that to the typical mobile phone screen with 2436-x 1125 resolution at which people are staring most of the day and the lower resolution looks and feels like s step back in time. - Build: the inexpensive materials used are best detected in the lens and the adjustment wheels, They feel and sound clunky and inaccurate, causing you to wheel back-and-forth to try to get to the precise focus and corrections. This does not feel anything like adjusting a quality photographic camera lens. - Image: as my photos reveal, I was unable to get a square picture. Either it would skew to the bottom left or to the top right, never achieving a perfect square. - Bundle: besides the batteries for the remote not being included (who does that nowadays?), I believe the projector would benefit from being bundled with a screen. - Sound quality: in line with the cost and manufacturing materials of the rest of the unit, the speakers are underpowered and unrefined and offer a flat audio output BOTTOM LINE: “You get what you pay for” rings very true with this projector. If you want something for the kids to watch on a camping trip on while the adults are watching sports on the big screen TV, or to provide a large format picture on a screen, wall or even sheet where no other option exists, then this is a very inexpensive solution. Ten years ago, I would have said this is an excellent addition to a salesperson’s toolkit, but rare is the meeting room nowadays that does not offer a better option for connecting a laptop to a conference room monitor for full resolution. If your goal is to buy a video projector for a home theatre setup, you will be happier paying more for a better projector.

It's OK for night time viewing but day time beware
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ematic LCD Projector is an attractive product due to the low retail price . Some of the features you get are x2 HDMI ports, x1 VGA port, and AV input and headphone jack output. You also have a built in micro sd slot. The unit also comes with a remote control. There is no built in battery like other small projectors have. Now for the most important part picture quality. At a resolution of 800x480 with 45 lumens of brightness and contrast ratio of 300:1 keep those expectations low. On a very dark room the picture is decent but not razor sharp clear but with flat colors. Even if you change it to vivid you do get a brighter picture but end up sacrificing so much detail that the whites end up being patches of white with no detail. The only profile that ended up providing a decent picture was the default one. Keep in mind this was in a dark room with almost no light coming in. Even on a room with blinds closed and just natural light leaking in the picture quality takes a huge hit so you end up with dim picture. For viewing movies outside could pose a problem if you have some outdoor lights. For gaming you can do fine with most games except for FPS since detail takes hit due to the low resolution. As for sound you definitely will want to plug in some sort of external audio watching a movie with the built in speakers will leave you disappointed. For a presentation they should be fine. Overall it’s a fine projector if you use it on a dark room. Brightness is not bright enough to be used during the day even with dim light room. For $99 it does enough of a good job for what you're paying for.

Portable Home Theater System!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I LOVE the Ematic Home Theater Projector so much that I bought a second one so the kids will leave mine alone. I use mine for school such as reviewing notes and slides to even magnifying pictures. The Ematic Projector helps with my eye strain because a projector doesn't hurt your eyes like looking at a computer screen all day. This projector has been a big help in school and I would advise students and parents of students to consider buying an Ematic Projector. The kids soon found my Ematic Projector and realized with two HDMI ports, USB port, MicroSD card port, and a VGA port that they could do and play whatever they wanted on the projector. I came home and found my projector hooked up to a PS4, Nintendo Switch, and as Amazon Fire Stick all plugged in. The kids basically took over my projector so I had to go buy another one just for them. It was worth every penny to see how excited the kids were to get their own projector. I even caught them playing school and using it like they were in a classroom. I would recommend this product for students, families, or even those who conduct business. The quality of the picture is really good and the added speakers do their job right. I love how I am able to adjust the picture even if the unit is titling on a platform. If your considering a Home Projector, I would definitely go with the Ematic brand. I have been very impressed with their products.
