||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great transfer and great overall quality for the price paid! I'm a HUGE fan of these types of films (Godzilla; Mothra, etc.) so adding this to my collection was a no brainier YET had I of read the back cover just a BIT more thoroughly, I'd have discovered that the audio tracks are ALL in the original Japanese with no English dubbing. Granted their ARE English subtitles just not dubbed into English. Not a huge disappointment but....nonetheless.

Mill Creeks Gamera Volume 1
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review will compare the new Mill Creek Gamera Blu-ray collection against the 4 year old Shout Factory DVD collection. EQUIPMENT USED FOR COMPARISON Samsung BD-E5900 vs. Oppo 981HD up-conversion player. PQ - Millcreeks Blu-ray is considerably clearer and brighter than the Shout Factory DVD's regardless of the fact that Mill Creek crammed 4 films onto 1 Blu-ray it still comes out on top. Colors are deeper and subtitles are crisp and clear. I ran DVD vs. Blu-ray side by side and it was very clear to me that Mill Creeks Gamera collection is far superior to that of Shout Factory visually speaking of course. *** winner Mill Creek *** AQ - Shout Factory released all the English dubs that were used in the American versions and could be toggled back & forth between dubs while also offering a very clear mono Japanese soundtrack. Mill Creeks decision to only offer the original Japanese soundtrack without the English dubs falls back on their decision to cram 4 films onto 1 disc which is a shame. Japanese with English subtitles are the only option on Mill Creeks Gamera collection yet the mono track is very clear which is no surprise since the stock used in Mill Creeks release are the very same ones used in Shout Factories Gamera collection. Shout factory came out on top due to the english dubs offered. *** winner Shout Factory *** Extra's - very sparse on both releases only offering up film trailers. *** no winner *** If it were not for the fact that Mill Creeks Gamera collection was priced so cheaply I would recommend those of you that have the Shout Factory set to skip it altogether since I hate the double-dip.... Yet the picture quality is such a large step up on the Mill Creek set that I must recommend this product to those of you that already have a set of Gamera DVD's these Blu-rays trump them in video clarity, color & contrast. I will still keep my Shout Factory set since watching those English dubs bring back warm & fuzzy creature feature memories from my childhood. Mill Creek Gamera Volume 1 is thereby recommended!

Childhood memories
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I grew up in the 70s and every weekend there would be creature features on the local 3 stations. I remember Gamera fondly from those days. As an adult the films don't bring me as much joy as my childhood, but they are still a good romp. I have always wondered why Gamera did do as well as Godzilla. These movies do showcase the late 60s Japanese monster movie style, at its highlight. I really enjoy the fight scenes, about as funny as they are thrilling. Glad this came out in a set and at 7.99 how could I pass it up. Great Deal.

Gamera!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love kaiju films. While Godzilla may be King of the Monsters, Gamera is the Guardian of the Universe! These movies are just fun to watch, and worthy of being on the same level as... well, okay, right under Godzilla, but he's up there! Millcreek gets you nearly all of his movies in 3 easy and cheap sets, on Blu-ray, taking advantage of the space these discs have. These are fun movies and a great way to use up a weekend vegging out in front of the big screen. Thanks Millcreek. Now if Gamera the Brave was in print, I'd have the whole set.

A "blast from the past".
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.OK, here's the deal: Kick your "willing suspension of disbelief" into gear and just enjoy. This movie is from a time when fantasy not only had a "gutt" appeal, but tried to send a message as well. Here's a "monster" that not only wreaked havoc, but loved kids. What else is there to say?

Good movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this movie. The DVD came with 3 movies. I have been looking for a couple years for this at a reasonable price. This movie is like the original Godzilla movies. The actors mouth does not match the words you hear. You must like the Godzilla movies in order to like Gomera. My daughters ( 21 & 18) do not like this movie.

Thanks for bringing these movies!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am glad to see Gamera is getting more recogniton and am finally able his first movies on glorious HD! They do have odd rythms, the second movie looks too adult and the one with the American White kid is almost like a Chabelo movie. Still great stuff!
