    No Live Traffic information

I was very excited about my new GPS but unfortunately I'm really disappointed today after using my device first time. I bought this device mainly for live traffic information as my previous garmin GPS did not have that feature. I prefer not using my cell phone and network data for navigation which drains phone battery as well especially on long routes. The reason I am very hurt today is that the only way I can get live traffic information in my new GPS is by using smartlink app through my phone.... then what is the meaning of publicizing that garmin can also provide live traffic updates and we have HD traffic receivers etc etc etc. When I tried to get live traffic information the following window popped up as shown in the image. My device says LMT which according to some reviewers mean that I don't need an extra reciever or special cable to get traffic information but contrary my device is found to be unable to get ang kind of traffic information without traffic receiver. Whats the point of having traffic enabled gps device if it actually extracts traffic information from your cellphone and display on its screen, Interesting fact??? I looked everywhere on you tube, best buy and garmin website but could not find any specific answers. Perhaps I also did not search well enough as well. But I believe it is also unfair that a product is being sold with the tag of live traffic information but in reality it might need an extra 70$ -100$ to serve that purpose in buying traffic reciever. I read in multiple reviews before buying, that LMT device means that it has internal traffic reciever so it doesn't need an extra reciever or cable. Perhaps my research was not good enough. But I hope my review will help other buyers to know this before purchasing this product as I couldn't find this information before buying and garmin product description and information is very vague about this feature.... On one page GPS 61 is enlisted in the device list of HD traffic capable devices but there is no clear information in product details that you have to buy extra cable or receiver to get that feature which means spending of 70-100$ extra after spending 300$, otherwise be ready to use your phone. What's the point of spending 300$ for dedicated new gps device with live traffic tag while it actually depends on your phone for navigation????

I’m sorry about you’re disappointed with the Live Traffic option. Vehicle power cables with built-in traffic receivers are available for purchase as optional accessories for your device, should you prefer to use this method over the default traffic solution. A GTM 36 cable, which offers standard Garmin traffic, can be found with part number 010-01009-02. A GTM 60, which provides HD Digital Traffic, can be found with part number 010-01031-00. An explanation of the differences between the two services can be found in the following Support Center FAQ: https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch/en-US/faq/content/i34WV8maJa11t7iwvYnz18 Garmin

Maps are Outdated and Incomplete, Wrong Speed Limi

I had high hopes for this navigation unit, but i am really disappointed, I spent $269 on this unit and it is certainly not worth it, When i got it, I updated it as soon as possible and it took 3.5 hours to download the update. I had really hope that it would have updated maps but, I did not notice any updates to maps but, maybe it added a couple of software updates, I do not know how Garmin their maps but, unless they have a car out here like Google does to drive around and constantly update maps then it is pretty much useless for me, I drove out to West Texas and outside the major freeways the car, which is shows most of the time in an open field and these are on roads that have been in existence for a long time. NOT ENOUGH INFORMATION SHOWING ABOUT ROADS AHEAD. If you are driving down the freeway and are curious about the roads coming up, forget about seeing it on this Garmin, All itg does is show the freeway and if you zoom in, there is not much difference. If you search for an address and start to navigate, it seems to be that Garmin would remember that address when you start typing it in again. It does not remember what you typed before and to me this is useless. Sometimes after you search for an address and then stop navigating, if you go back and search for the address again, Garmin cannot find the address again,. When trying to navigate to a city, you have to go into the categories and scroll down through all of the bs before finally getting to the intersections and cities., This should be at the top not at the bottom. ALSO, YOU WILL BE CAUGHT SPEEDING IF YOU RELY ON THIS GARMIN FOR CORRECT SPEED LIMITS, SPEED LIMIT IS WRONG MOST OF THE TIME. GARMIN DOES NOT RECOGNIZE CONSTRUCTION ZONES ON INTERSTATES THAT HAVE BEEN THERE FOR A LONG TIME. Sure there is a nice big screen but, unless it can navigate and recognize where you are instead of not knowing at all as to where you are then it is pretty much worthless as a navigation unit. I would think that it would be adaptive and learn new routes. It does not seem to do this., I believe it says that there is a 2 hour battery life, THIS IS A COMPLETE MISREPRESENTATION , as soon as you unplug the unit, it immediately within 10 seconds powers down. I WILL RETURN THIS UNIT AND I MAY AS WELL USE MY OLD MAGELLAN THAT IS 5 OR 6 YEARS OLD BECAUSE THIS UNIT IS NOT MUCH BETTER. VERY DISAPPOINTED AND I DO NOT KNOW HOW IN THE WORLD THAT THIS UNIT HAS SUCH HIGH REVIEWS ON BEST BUY UNLESS MAYBE THE BEST BUY EMPLOYEES ARE THE ONES WRITING THE REVIEWS

ok so...1st review! hope it helps! This Garmin (61 LMT) finally came to my local BB and was up there before they even opened the doors to get my hands on it!! (just from the pics alone! and BB web site said less than 3 in stock) I previously owned the Garmin Nuvi for about 2 years (wife uses it now and loves it) and then the Garmin 60 LMT But exchanged the 60 for the 61 (only had it for 8 days.. come on, gotta have the new one!?) anyway, as usual easy transaction and great customer service! Ok so the screen is big! and beautiful! easy to read and follow the directions ...voice and route guidance Typing addresses and using all the setting's is very easy! (like all there products) So is using device during travel stop route / change route / route traveling / traffic updates / looking for just an Intersection!? ect... many options! So far the only 2 differences I personally have noticed between the 60 and 61 is that the 61 comes with WIFI to connect to your personal WIFI and you can do all your system and map updates if you don't wanna plug directly into your computer for everything. And obviously the screen, not as much as a "border" around the device as you can see, Which I love! Again the 2 things I've noticed so far! only had a few hours Bluetooth works great Phone calls / voicemal / texts / email / Etc ..EVERY notification you get on your phone will go right to device. But can be changed in the settings (within the GPS) to which notifications YOU prefer. All in All GREAT product(s) Can do A-Z! then Z-A Too much to list! Very user friendly and a must have for GPS users you won't be disappointed! Keep up the GREAT work Garmin!:) ohh and I am a truck driver so I really know these products! I use them at least 8-14 hrs a day 5-6 days a week anddd then in my personal vehicle when not working!

Good product - User Interface needs help

As a long time Garmin GPS user, This model is a step backward due to the change in user interface. Entering an address is complicated by the auto complete feature. It sucks. Until you learn how to bypass the auto complete feature, you will likely never find the location you are trying to find. While the display is truly amazing, the requirement to bypass the auto complete is irritating inefficient and Wastes time. More on the new UI, I don’t mind giving up the change in the right side menu, the reduced number of options is not a game changer. I personally like the old UI better, period. Next: The local traffic info interface is much less usable than my old Nuvi. I have used it locally where my old Nuvi worked just fine. I have not got the new unit to display traffic yet. Now I know one of the stated features is the phone app. I don’t use or want a GPS with a phone interface and purchased the traffic antenna which is not as integrated or usable as my old Nuvi traffic and route display. In summary, this purchase was a huge step backward. The upgrade in display quality is really a great feature, but the downside is the UI. At the end of the day, I can’t return the unit. All I can do is share my experience and continue to use this GPS. With time I hope to figure out how to get all the pieces working together. Of note: Outside of my local area, I have only used the unit on a trip to Pensacola FL. I don’t know if traffic info is available there. So the jury is still out on the real-time traffic info integration. The UI still sucks. As to the future, I still need to transfer the POIs to the new unit. I have many years stored in my old unit, copied from each old unit as it was replaced. Some positives: I have found the utility of a windshield mount GPS invaluable, both on my personal vehicle and in rental cars. Traveling alone while using rental cars in a new city is much less stressful with a GPS.

    270$ or 370$ :-)

Traveling east coast US and Canada for 7-8 months yearly for last 7 years I owed all GPS. Last one Garmin Nuvi 3597 LM which was top of the line model. First thing I like to warn people, there is two options for live traffic. First that come with GPS is conect your phone and from there you can access traffic. This may be great option for some folks. But if you prefer conect your phone to BT device as I do a lot my Bose BT you are out of luck unless you buy additional cable that cost 100$ extra. So to enjoy this GPS you will need spend 100$ Or if you already have Garmin cable as i do from Nuvi 3597 you can use it. BUT if you decide to do that will be worth the money. This GPS is much much better in any aspect comparing to my Nuvi 3597. Screen is gorgeous, POI is much improved and most importantly traffic update is just amazing I took trip to DC with GPS and can't complain about anything.... I don't use voice command as you can notice English is my second language. On the end build is cheaper than my 3597 and miss conection from 3597 much better in my opinion. With 61 LMT is plastic very cheap. But screen and ability to browse through map, POI, Live Traffic that work great are enough for me to keep this GPS. I didn't go through every detail about GPS every person has diferent preferences and like and dislike about item. I know one thing when I get lost and GPS brings me to my Hotel or destination I don't care which way is went :-) All I know I am at destination..... That is why I think every GPS deserve at least 3 stars...

I'm not a fan of built-ins, so when I got my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited a couple of years ago, I opted to stay with the basic non-nav entertainment system. Since then I had been using a combination of Apple Maps and Waze, but when you start venturing into unconnected territory, Apple Maps is useless, Waze and Google Maps have generic base maps unless I think ahead and download the maps ahead of time. Unfortunately, when you're in a hotel with really crappy wifi and flip-flopping 2G/3G/4G wireless connectivity, that goal is impossible to accomplish. In comes DriveSmart 61 - with detailed maps and pre-loaded destinations, I don't need to worry about having any sort of connectivity to navigate the back roads of Arizona. Because it has built in wifi connectivity, I can get maps and destinations without plugging it into a computer to update. As an added bonus, when tethered to your smartphone running the Garmin smartphone link, I can get real time weather and traffic alerts and re-routing. The only complaint I have is with Bluetooth tethering - my Jeep sometimes goes crazy when answering calls using uConnect - with the GPS unit trying to take control of the call... sometimes. When it does, the quality of the calls are terrible. After using it to navigate the streets of Los Angeles, and later the backroads of Arizona, I'm extremely happy with this purchase. Note: If you decide to go with this unit, just be warned the initial map download will take a long time to complete including some firmware updates.

After 8 years my 2595 began to give out giving strange directions and recalculating often. I read many reviews and found these new models. My main issue with the 2595 was taking me through city streets with many lights rather than a highway because it is closer in distance but would take more time especially at rush hour. I don't use the bluetooth or voice but the bluetooth wasnt great on 2595. Improvements I've noticed compared to 2595. 1. Uses landmarks such as next light and the light after car wash rather than and in addition to streets. Especially great at night. 2.when coming to toll will take you to the right immediately as opposed to taking you to express ez pass and forcing you to cut across lanes of traffic. 3.very specific in telling you and showing you the lane you should be in 4.many options for alerts especially curves and speed changes 5.when going to an address this gaps took me to the highway while 2595 took me via streets 6.screen is big and easy to read I am using the old 2595 cable for traffic. Im sure app would work better but I don't have a smartphone. I don't know if these changes are due to gps or garmin but Im thinking gps cause my 2595 was not taking me via these improved routes. If my issue of the gps taking me through streets with many lights instead of highway ill add s sixth star. Overall I use on highway as well as local and am pleased so far.

    Lifetime traffic not included

I purchased this unit to replace a nuvi 3590 LMT that died. The "T" Drivesmart 61 LMT is a little deceptive as the unit itself does not receive traffic updates out of the box as the 3590 did. You have to either purchase a separate cable for $70, only to find out that the cable only works in "major metropolitan areas" and not on the open highway (that fact is not listed anywhere on Garmin's site regarding the cable), or use the Smartphone Link app, turn on GPS/location services, and use your data on your phone. So, it order to utilize the "Lifetime Traffic", the Garmin device is basically just a big screen sitting on your dash/windshield displaying information received via your cell phone. The whole point of purchasing the device was so I didn't have to use the GPS and data on my cell phone. If I had know that the only highway traffic option was using the cell app, I would have saved the $300+ that I spent on the new unit & cable and used the free mapping which includes traffic updates already included on my cell phone!
