      Favorite keyboard since 1990

I was about to buy this exact model when my brother and mother gave me the same model. As my brother buys his keyboards from Best Buy, I know that this is where it came from. I chose this keyboard for various reasons. I tried it in store on the display when it was available. The little right shift key does not bother me and I type over 60 words a minute. I have been known to literally wear out keyboards. Within a month to three months (this keyboard is not following the usual pattern - see below), my letters usually wear off the keys and I have grooves where my thumb hits the spacebar and my fore fingers hit the rfuj keys. Sometimes my other vowels have the grooves too. I've had this computer keyboard for about six months now and I have not worn it out, nor do I have missing letters or those telltale grooves in the keys. I do have areas on the keyboard where things are smoothed, but there are no grooves. The shift key would drive some people bonkers but it just takes a little to get used to. After you are used to it, you should have no issue. Most smaller keyboards are actually built with these smaller shift keys. If you want a full size shift key on the right, buy a full size keyboard. If you're willing to get used to the smaller shift key, then this should be a good keyboard. Out of all the keyboards I've had, this is the one I've had the least problems with that has held up the best. I also haven't had to change batteries yet and I'm the world's worst with turning it off! I tell everyone, if you're going to buy a keyboard, buy it in person and try out the store display where you are buying it, before you buy it... and there are some good reasons for it!

When it comes to most keyboards, this keyboard is by far one of the most user friendly keyboards to begin with. The unifying usb device not only helps in the long run with compatibility support, but it also allows you to see what other Logitech products are compatible with the unifying software. The keyboard itself is simple, neat, and gives a nice sleek design for such an affordable and inexpensive keyboard. One of the most useful aspects of the keyboard are the gestures that the keyboard posses within the mouse pad. It's the little things that a small, yet extremely useful keyboard can truly do. I would HIGHLY recommend this keyboard to anyone that possess a Windows based PC product, mainly for the dedicated controls and functions that Windows based dedicated devices are used for. The range and distance between the receiver and keyboard works incredibly well without even a notion of worrying in a loss of connection/communication. *Side note: MAKE SURE the next 'unifying software' from Logitech IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE USB RECEIVER; not all products, especially older products are compatible. So be sure to double check!* (You can flat out see the icon on the back and front of the box or product that you're buying. My only main concern with the keyboard is that it can sound a little bit flimsy at times; but I'm telling you, the keyboard does it's job 10X better than most people truly would or could imagine. For beginners, I would recommend this keyboard in a heartbeat without a hesitation.

So I bought the Logitech K400 keyboard because I needed something for my TV (let's face it, typing using a remote just plain sucks). Not wanting to break the bank on something fancy, I went with the budget friendly "old model on sale to make room for new model" item priced at a 33% discount (woohoo!). As a keyboard, it functioned just fine. It felt pretty cheap and flimsy, but that's because it is (cheap materials). So why the 5-star rating? Well, despite is look and feel, it functions 100% and can take a beating! I have two little ones, and let's just say they're not very delicate with inanimate objects... This keyboard has taken more abuse than a bad comedian has taken rotten tomatoes (ok, bad analogy, no one really throws rotten tomatoes anymore, but you get the point), and this thing just keeps on ticking! The durability was a pleasant surprise (not that there is much sensitive electronics in a keyboard, but the wireless transmitter is definitely well protected and the relays (between the keys and the transmitter) are top notch in my books! For the price, you can't go wrong! Do not get this mixed up with the newer model: K400 Plus. I can't vouch for that one, but I liked this one so much I purchased another one for my other TV.

Love this keyboard! My first and only complaint is that the touchpad doesn't have side scrolling capability. Going to write Logitech about it and suggest an update in the software to correct this. Other than that, installation was a breeze. Takes longer to open the box than to get up and running. Do install the optional software from Logitech mentioned in the instructions. It allows you to set up any additional wireless devices and to change touchpad settings, etc. I agree with the other commenter that the keys are placed such that they would drive a touch typist mad at first, but it gets easier. I typed all this from my LazyBoy. Also great to know that this keyboard will wake the computer, so that I don't ever have to touch the computer except to put in a DVD. Great product! Great shipping service from BestBuy. 3 days and it was at my doorstep. :-)

      One "deal breaking" flaw...

The price, at $20 on Black Friday, was great. The reduced size makes taking in the computer backpack easier -- the full size keyboard just barely fits and keys fall off occasionally. I do take my whole laptop and external keyboard with me everywhere -- all my paying work comes and goes on the internet and typing is a huge part of my work. It may even fit with its original box, which will give it almost complete protection. BUT....the right shift key is in the wrong place! Deal breaker! This might work for a hunt and peck typist but for a "real typist" it's terrible! I started typing on it, checking out the feel, the responsiveness, etc., good except that I noticed I kept going up to the line above, causing corrections and delays. A real pain. It's because they put the up arrow button where the shift key is supposed to be! Add to it that the shift key is not oversize like it should be, but a normal key size. And it's one key too far to the right. Terrible, terrible, terrible! Designs by engineers without a real typist as a consultant? Contact me, I'll be reasonably priced. Sheesh, what a potentially great keyboard that flopped! Please swap the position of those two keys and send me a new one and I'll switch my review to five stars!

      Keyboard for use with Chromebox

I needed a keyboard to use with my HP Chromebox. The Chromebox is used in my living room as an entertainment center. I will stream movies in HD, videos, pictures and music from it. The Chromebox came with a key board and mouse. But this combo was lacking as you had to have somewhere to use the mouse. In comes the Logitech keyboard mouse combo. This is a much better solution. I can now lounge on the couch with this keyboard on my lap. No need to have a table nearby or a magazine jammed up next to me for a place to roll a mouse around. For use to control a home entertainment computer this keyboard is awesome. Also the keyboard itself has a much better feel to the buttons when pressed than the cheaper feeling Chromebox keyboard. It synced with my Chromebox without issue. Plug in the wireless adapter into the Chromebox and the first time I used the keyboard it worked perfectly. The only downside I can say is that the Chromebox keyboard had some dedicated buttons such as playing and pausing video and other Chromebox specific tasks that this keyboard does not have. But for me that is not that big of a deal. Heres to using my new keyboard to entertain myself while being a lazy bum on my couch!

Received this as a gift to pair with my Samsung UN46F6300AFXZA. Although it handles basic functions like directing the pointer, accessing TV menu functions and typing URLs into the browser text windows, the keyboard apparently doesn't allow for password entry on sites like Facebook or Gmail. I could watch as extra characters were added to my text entries when the shift key was used. Everything worked fine using the TV remote and the set's on screen keyboard, so the fault appears to be with the K400R or the sites not being fully compatible with Logitech's drivers. Maybe it's Samsung's on-board browser - who knows, but it's a major fail on somebody's part. In summary, if you want to simply browse the web and not access email or anything else with a password, the K400R will work. For more advanced input, I guess you're stuck with Samsung's own bluetooth keyboard, but based on Best Buy reviews (I haven't tried it), it has its own issues and isn't worth the extra $80 to even consider fiddling around with. Samsung, please get your act together. WebTV figured out how to make IR keyboards operate effectively via a TV interface two decades ago.

i was looking for something smaller intended to a one of those mini keyboards like the ones fro RII but figured i would try this. positives are: if you already have a current driver for any logitech keyboards ther is no need to install it again. just plug and play. it is much smaller than most full size boards, and also very light there is a left click button on the left side and does just that left clicks. a on/off switch is also available to save battery life when not being used. the item does come with an adapter if you have a problem with fitting the small transceiver. negatives: if you are not used to 2 finger scrolling and dont like touchpads to begin with you may want to skip this all together. there is no function lock for a number pad and a total absence of a number pad hence it is a smal keyboard. this is a great keyboard for "couch surfing" and MAY even work good on some smart tv's. i would recommend it if you like touchpads i did not care for it thought it would be more responsive.
