Great comedy...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great comedy... especially for a vulgar comic-book geek, like myself! :) Plus, it has an awesome cameo by the great Stan Lee, who sadly passed away one day before my receiving this Blu-ray in the mail. :( Sad coincidence, but it will make my next viewing of this classic that much more meaningful. :)

90s Slacker Classic - Are You A Mallrat?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love comics? Pop culture? Have issues with communication and relationships? Still trying to find yourself and your true purpose? If you answered yes to more than one of those questions chances are you will get some enjoyment from this movie as long you enjoy absurdist comedy and Kevin Smith style dialogue and philosophizing. And while Mallrats covers all of the above questions there are obviously no firm answers but there is great exchange between comic book legend Stan Lee and Brodie (Jason Lee's character) that suggests that no matter how big your dreams are life still comes back to the basics: finding someone to love and being true to who you are Brodie seems to have a fascination with how "big" certain Superheros are that implies that he's got major insecurity issues...and all Lee can say is don't worry how "big" those heroes are...just be "big" enough to go after the things that really matter. A crazy cocktail of social satire, Jedi Mind tricks, love for Batman, and how guys really are jerks to their women and need to wake up...Mallrats is a rewarding film with many layers to consider. So next time you hit the Mall take some time to consider where you are in life and if you're really happy with where you are while browsing the latest video games, fitted ball caps, big clothing sales, or chowing down at the food court.

Classic Kevin Smith Comedy
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you loved Clerks, even with it's very basic look and feel, you'll also love Mallrats. It's classic Kevin Smith but with a budget to go with his hilarious dialogue. Lots of great extra features, including the full Extended version, are included so it's well worth adding to your collection. Granted, the initial opening sequence in the Extended version leaves a LOT to be desired. It expands on the overall storyline but honestly falls very flat and just not funny for more than a few quick lines. However, it doesn't take away from the rest of this movie, which is a modern classic just like Clerks.

Definitive Home Video Release For Mallrats Fans
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fantastic new scan and transfer of a fanboy classic. Never looked or sounded so good on home video and the bonus features are excellent. You get some new ones and some old ones that give you a lot of insight into the production, the zeitgeist around it, the thoughts that went into etc. Still a great, one-of-a-kind movie too. Bonus points for great packaging and presentation as well. Arrow always does a nice job.

Decent Follow Up
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While not as critically acclaimed as Clerks was, it was unique in its own way. Some good, some not-so-good. But overall, definitely a unique experience.

One of Kevin Smith's best
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."That kid...is back....on the ESCALATOR AGAIN!" As a big Kevin Smith fan and an even bigger comic book fan, this movie hits all the right notes for me. This is Smith's second movie in the "View-Askewnivere" with the first being "Clerks". An observant viewer will be able to see many concurrent story lines and themes that Smith likes to interweave into his movies. If you enjoy these 2 movies, I highly recommend finding "Chasing Amy", "Dogma", "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back", and "Clerks 2" as they all take place in the same universe. Also, be on the lookout for "Mallrats 2" and "Clerks 3" which the director is currently working on. Excelsior!!

ASKEWNIVERSE
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Kevin Smith, you either love his work or hate it, there's no middle ground. While I think Jay & Silent Bob is the best movie for the casual fan to start with, Mallrats comes close 2nd. This release by Arrow Video pulls all the stops and delivers the most complete Mallrats package yet (it even includes the censored TV version with its hilarious dubbing). Definitely worth checking it out!
