Good Film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Some may not agree with the approach Don Cheadle may have taken with making this film about the great jazz icon Miles Davis. We are so programmed to the thinking that every time a film is made regarding a music artist that it should be done in a bio-pic fashion, and that anything less is a bad film. Cheadle's approach was to focus on 2 periods of Miles Davis extraordinary career, then based on source materials and discussions with Miles family, he developed his own fantasized version of what Miles life was like during these 2 periods of his life. The result is a film representing his version of what he wanted to give to the film world of his take on Miles Davis. What little music there is in the film is great, the costumes very on point reflecting the period of those times, the acting by some of the actors should get some recognition during the upcoming awards season, and the look of the film is superb. It's a very enjoyable film.I would have given a the film a 5 star rating, but deep down inside I would have to admit also that I was expecting a bio-pic as well about the life and times of the great Miles Davis.

Cheadle delivers on Miles Davis biopic!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Prior to sitting down and watching this movie I caught another Don Cheadle movie called The Guard. Don Cheadle delivers in everything he is in and when this finally made its debut on blu ray I had to pick it up. Not knowing too much about Miles Davis I was familiar with some of his music. Not too sure on the accuracy of the movie but the time shifts, the acting and of course the music are top notch. And kudos to Don Cheadle for shooting the film in 16mm. The formats grain and vibrant color shine through giving the movie an extra layer of authenticity.

This Is A Cool One
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Miles Davis. Jazz. This is one of those movies where you think, this is the guy born to play Miles Davis. Don Cheadle pulls it off with style. Buy the soundtrack, listen to it at night, Jazz is best played at night. I can not claim this quote: Jazz is America's Music, America's Poetry.

If youre gonna tell a story....
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Come with some attitude. And Don Cheadle definitely brings a ton of attitude to this biopic of Miles Davis. This film does not stray away from showing how eccentric and even at times troubled the entertainer was. This is not a film you should allow to pass you buy.

Gangsta Miles?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Without giving up the storyline, this movie is not what I expected. Soundtrack of course is great. Fine performance by Don Cheadle. Bonus for the ending credits, performance by Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Gary Clark Jr., Antonio Sanchez. Worth checking out.

Great Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent concept to completion. Slick editing and awesome job capturing the essence of the era. Cheadle did great! Especially considering the time involved and the hurdles he had to maneuver to bring a Miles Davis story to the big screen. This was not a biop (so 'purist' can save their criticism) but a thoroughly entertaining version of the man and the myth of Miles Davis.

An eclectic icon
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You get a in depth, in your face look into the life of one the most charismatic and honest musician to ever take the stage. His thoughts, demons and his unique perspective on music made him a legendary music maker and an even more genuine human being.
