Almost perfect bluray
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The quality of the TODD-AO presentation was stellar. That disc alone was worth the price of purchase. However, i was disappointed the only audio track available on that disc was the DTS HD Master 7.1 - the sound was highly compressed sounding (in relation to the 4.0 soundtrack on the Cinemascope Disc.) Had there been an option to use the 4.0 audio with the TODD AO video, this would have mirrored the original presentation and would have garnered a 5.0 for this disc set. The Cinemascope was faithful to the 2.55;1 ratio. That was the only positive about the disc image. Could be me, but there appeared to be no effort whatsoever to clean it up to reference quality as was done with "The King and I" and the TODD_AO version. To me it looked like an early DVD pressing which was at some point 'restored' from the film master. However, no further work was done - extremely grainy, red/green/blue color fringing almost 60% of the film; details were hard to see. No; i suspect they didn't bother to try and clean it up. But hey, maybe the Cinemascope film masters were so bad that this was restored and it was the best that could be done. Either way, it's pretty bad. However, and this one is a big positive, the original 4.0 Stereo track was present in all its glory on this Cinemascope version. The sound was so expansive, and it sounded as if the players were immediately in front of you. When it came to the musicals, the instruments were so present and well defined! The bottom end had my subwoofer working consistently. This was the bright spot for the Cinemascope version on the Bluray. It alone was worth the price of the disc. I hope a 4k version comes out with special edition (like the 50th Anniv Sound of music package). I'd buy it - as long it was confirmed the 4.0 soundtrack was available on the TODD AO disc, and the Cinemascope version was -re-mastered. i'd recommend this however for anyone who enjoys musicals regardless of the shortcomings. (As long as the price was eqivalent or lower than a standard bluray disc.)

Beautiful!

As a very young child I can recall listening to the soundtrack on my grandmother's stereo and this film brings that and more back to life. It comes in both widescreen version and I watched the Todd AO (American Optical) version first. If memory serves me, this version was shown on a huge, wide, curved screen that wrapped around the front part of the theater. Of course it does not do that on my TV (A 3D 48" HD model) but the picture is nonetheless stunning. Fantastic in presentation and almost 3D in looks (it is a 2D film) and the singing and dancing are superb! Highly recommended!

Amazing on Blu!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have loved this film since I first saw it airing on TNT in the early 1990s - I was just a kid, but it's been one of my favorite classic musicals of all time. I purchased the remastered DVD anniversary set awhile back, and I was stunned by the quality. Now, again, seeing this remastering in HD on my big TV, the bluray is even more stunning! I'm pleased with owning multiple formats of this film, even if I DO now own two copies now on DVD. It's impressive of this BLU release to include the DVDs as well. LOTS of special features, BOTH filmed versions (Filmed twice: In 70mm Todd-AO at 30fps and in 35mm CinemaScope at 24fps), and plenty to keep you busy. Love it!

Great Blu-ray.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the best looking blu-rays I have ever bought. If you want to see how nice your tv picture is this is the demo for you. It has two versions of the movies as it was filmed twice with two different camera systems. Watch the Todd A O version. It will blow your mine how great it looks. The sound is also quite good which is good since it is a musical.

Stunning presentation of good movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."Oklahoma" has its dull stretches, but it looks and sounds so good in the Blu-ray version that fans of the show will definitely be happy. MacRae and Jones are perfect in the leading roles, and Steiger makes you actually sympathize with Judd. Lots of extras and an extra copy of the film on DVD make this a no-brainer for the $10 I paid for it at Best Buy.
