"You think when you die, you go to Heaven..."
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."...you come to US!" The Tall Man, played by the late, great Angus Scrimm, has all the best lines in Don Coscarelli's 1979 supernatural horror classic that sneakily boasts one of the decade's best soundtracks (by Fred Myrow and Malcolm Seagrave). What's going on at the local mortuary and crematorium? Is it really happening? Is it really a dream? Why are bodies disappearing right and left? Where do the lethal Silver Spheres that wield strange weaponry come from? (One grisly Sphere-effected kill is a famous one!) There really is no other film like PHANTASM (and the first 'Nightmare' famously ripped off its ending). The retro-cool SteelBook design proudly displays a brazen image of a lethal Silver Sphere with weapons deployed. I love the original film poster art, but this is a slick new design for a great presentation of a screen gem that deserved a remaster. Get one before The Tall Man takes the rest home with him! "BOY!!!"

Horror classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Many years ago, Don Cascorelli created a mind bending terror fest; he called it Phantasm. One of the most iconic horror film villains is The Tall Man. One of the most iconic horror film scores is the soundtrack to this film. And JJ Abrams and Bad Robot Productions brought us the Terror fest in one of the greatest remasters I've ever seen come to bluray! The features are great as well, with a pimp my ride-like tv show episode featuring The phantasm car, a lengthy vintage tv interview with Don and Angus Scrimm (r.i.p) and very informative commentary track giving the classic even more of a replay value! Highly recommend this 2 disc set! The slipcover/disc artwork alone is amazing. Get it

A true classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ahhh 1979, the year I gragitated High School. With the exception of maybe Romero's NofTLD, Laser Blast, and The Incredable Melting Man...possibly Scanners there was really nothing like this around. My friends and I used to watch these kinds of movies on some late night cable channel out of SF/Oakland, maybe KTVU...Bob Wilkens Creature Feature I think was the program. I was really surprised to see it in steel box, Blu-ray with lossless audio, so I grabbed it. JJ Abrams oversaw the resto, no wonder he makes movies like Cloverfield. This is a must have "reference" disc for any sci-fi horror fan who likes things like Event Horizon. As far as picture quality, I mean it's lo budget 1970's and this is as good as it's ever going to get...so basically DVD quality that's been cleaned-up. You watch movies like this and say...good luck getting anything like that made today.

Super Cool Steel Book Packaging!!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Steel book case with very cool representation of the 2 poles from the dimension portal on the back! couldn't see it when I purchased it due to the packaging, but after opening it up, I was pleasantry surprised! As for the film, J.J. Abrams' restoration is awesome - definitely doesn't feel as dated as the previous releases. Good thing he didn't get to add anything and screw it up like Star Wars!!!

Best presentation of a classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a horror fan, and you've never seen Phantasm, a film which has garnered a large cult following (along with its sequels) since its first release in 1979, it is a must-see. It hearkens back to an age when films tried to do something different than the last film out, not following a trend or copying an earlier popular film. Its originality, and its fun, non-CGI effects are the reason to see the film, which some may still find frightening because of its unpredictable nature. The bluray transfer makes the film look better than it ever has. The extras are good and its a perfect Halloweentime gift.

Classic Camp Horror on Clearer Blu-Ray
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will give five stars for the classic original '79 film starring Angus Scrimm, AKA "Tall Man;" rest in peace, mate! While I have the original Anchor Bay out of print 2007 DVD, that print's aud/vid quality pales in comparison to the new 2016 remastered, restored Blu-Ray version from acclaimed fanboy director J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Studios. It is worth getting this 2016 Blu-Ray for the Dolby 5.1 Surround Mix as well as optional Mono sound. The best parts of the movie are the campiness, suspense of "Tall Man" & his flying spheres of death that seek fresh brains!

Classic 70's horror, bad yes, but in a good way
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is truly a great, (in a campy way), bad horror movie from the 70's. Michael, our hero, slams a door on the hand of a tall dark figure who chases him. He slices off the tall mans fingers. and the hand spurts out yellow blood. He takes one of the severed fingers home, sticks it in a box. The next day, the box starts moving around, it seems the finger is alive. Michael explains this to his older brother, Jody, but his brother doesn't believe him, so Jody opens the box to show him. Inside is the severed finger squirming around in a pool of blood. Jody, closes the box with a casual, Oh. A flying stainless steel sphere with sharp hooks chases them around, as they investigate inside the funeral home and encounter the tall dark man, it goes, like that, until our hero's join forces and figure out how to stop the tall dark man who's ire they have raised who is now stalking them all.
