Ultimate compliment for Life/Blue Planet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This IS my reference documentary for all biology and evolution along with Life/Blue Planet also from BBC. BBC covers everything except outter space (astronomy documentaries elsewhere). It presents some of the coolest, most dangerous to capture ever camera shots in amazing 1080p [ how on Earth do you film hi def cameras in the Antarctic UNDERWATER?!?!? BTW it tells you in special features ;) ]. If you have a regular small TV or a giant setup like me with Marantz receivers and 7.1 Axiom speakers you won't be let down. The DTS Hi Res track is to my audiophile ears, indistinguishable from the lossless DTS HD MA. The entire gamut of animals is covered too, with none of the boring African Safari ONLY animals countless of other documentaries covered. Whether you're a Biology major like me or just a neophyte and curious about animals, this IS the piece for you. Oh, and David Attenborough''s narration is dead on, his voice is calming and clear like a Morgan Freeman...the perfect British compliment for this educational video. All in all 5/5 presentation, and I am picky when it comes to my blu ray reviews. Best purchase of the year from BestBuy for this price!

Still a Great Series, Years Later
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Full disclosure - I waited eagerly for each new episode of Planet Earth when it was first broadcast in the US on Discovery 10 years ago. And when it came out on DVD, I picked it up right away. And now I've finally gotten around to upgrading to the blu-ray version. But do I still think it's absolutely worth owning? You bet - read on to see why. When Planet Earth first came out, it was a visual tour de force - the best way to show off your shiny new HDTV. That piece has aged just "ok" - it's still a pretty picture and sharp enough but certainly not something to awe us in the era of streaming 4K. The piece that hasn't changed a bit though is the masterful coverage of places, plants and animals that most of us would never otherwise see, certainly not in their native environments. And with these environments disappearing every day, it becomes even that much more important to preserve them in any way possible - including film. So I will buy Planet Earth in the best format I can, not to showcase my TV's prowess, but to save to show those in the future the awe of the natural world.

Brilliant
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sights and sounds are brilliant! The image and audio quality of this 6-disc Blu-ray set are exemplary. The 1080i image is flicker free and everything looks great. the DTS 5.1 is stellar. The content is jaw-dropping great. The set contains a plethora of extras. This title has been released several times. My favorite is the globe packaging. This physical package is pretty good *except* for the cardboard sleeves for the individual discs. Cardboard sleeves are *not* a good idea as they can scratch the surface of the disc which in turn can result in play disruption. That happened on one of the discs on first play. Cardboard sleeve (and staggered hub) packaging should be banned. Big mistake. That being said, "Planet Earth" on Blu-ray is, again, brilliant and I'm delighted to have it in my collection.

Excellent
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just an amazing, amazing series. The visuals alone are gorgeous, often mesmerizing, and sometimes hard to believe. Planet Earth deserves all the acclaim it's gotten. I still haven't watched even half of it yet! This blu-ray package seems to have everything anybody could want, with the original narrator, the super cool making-of features, and an option to play it without the narration if you just want to watch (and listen to the excellent soundtrack).

Stunning- EVERYONE should own this on blu Ray!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a fan of Planet Earth since it first aired on the BBC. I owned a dvd copy, then a blu ray. When I was online to buy the blu ray for season two, I noticed a great price on the original Planet Earth. This version has bonus content which I had never seen before. Now I'm glad that my original was stolen, it gave me an excuse to upgrade to this version!

After years, still breath taking.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I remember purchasing this years ago when Blu-ray was first adopted, and my jaw was left on the ground. Nothing has changed, and with this Special Edition you get a ton of bonus content. Now, having said that....the bonus content is on DVD and I'm not sure of the resolution but it isn't HD, so that's a negative. Doubly so since this may be a re-buy or double dip for a lot of people. Keep that in mind. If you have NEVER watched or owned this...please buy this. It is on sale for $14.99 and worth every penny.

Planet Earth BD Set
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a great buy for this remastered BlueRay set of BBC programs. The set includes the entire original programs plus a set of video diaries that explain what the photographers and videographers had to go through to get these incredible videos. This set takes nature videos to a level unmatched by anything other than the newest Planet Earth II releases. If you like or enjoy these type of videos don't miss this set. It's worth buying a BlueRay player if you don't already have one.
