• A:Answer I have used this adapter to update by Garmin GPS. I connect this adapter to the USB-C port on my MacBook Pro (2019), then the USB cable that came with the Garmin to the USB port, then to the Garmin. Keep in mind that not all USB cables are capable of carrying data, some are charge only cables.

Q: QuestionI have a Mac mini (m1, 2021 model) with 2 usb-a ports and 2 thunderbolt 3 ports. I need more usb-a ports. Can I use this to plug into one of the thunderbolt 3 ports and convert it to usb-a? or is the thunderbolt 3 ports just for charging?

• A:Answer Yes, you can use it with a thunderbolt 3. Thunderbolt 3 is not just for charging it is for connecting devices with the added feature that if it is a chargeable device it will do that also. If not a chargeable device that feature is just not used. I have 2 plugged into my 2 iMAC M1 USB 3 ports to power my USB A CD drive and my USB A hub for my SD card reader.
