  • QuestionI bought this air conditioner and it didn't come with any side curtain brackets to prevent the bottom of the side panel from moving. Why wouldn't it come with this?

    Asked by Guy.

    • Answer Hi Guy - Thanks for reaching out to us and for choosing GE! We are happy to help. After sliding left and right side curtain frames into top and bottom rails, make sure that side curtains snap into side of the frames. Next, extend the curtain panels and use 4 type B screws to secure the side panels in place. • QuestionCan it be used as an through the wall AC unit

    Asked by Toorch.

    • Answer Hi Toorch - Thanks for viewing GE Model AHP14LZ! Window AC units are portable, and are not installed into the structure of the home or building. GE window air conditioners are designed to fit traditional-style windows and come with our EZ-mount installation kit. Our Built-in models are designed to be built into the wall. These GE Air Conditioners do not have the side or top vents that are typical for window air conditioners. Built-in units offer a better weather barrier than standard window air conditioners and keep windows free of obstructions. • QuestionBought this AC unit in July. Has an Oder of a skunk since day 1. Thought it would go away. Haven’t used much in anticipation of waiting on new baby to arrive. We are needing to use this AC more now and the skunk smell is still there. Help??

    Asked by Odor.

    • Answer Oh goodness! We're truly sorry to hear that your air conditioner is producing a foul odor and definitely understand your frustration. A properly working unit by itself does not usually produce any form of odor. Smells generally come from a dirty unit or is something that is recycled from the room itself. To minimize odors: Keep the unit clean of any build-ups. If you have a window unit, make sure the unit is leveled properly so that it tilts about 1/4" back. The constant warming and cooling on these machines can build up moisture quickly. If it doesn't evaporate or drain properly, the stagnant water can lead to fungi, molds, and mildews and cause a musty odor. We do not recommend cleaning it yourself with a garden hose or pressure washer, since you are more likely to get water into electronic areas. Keep the filter cleaned; it is best to clean monthly. If this doesn't help and you are still within the return period of Best Buy, please make a warranty exchange. Otherwise, please call 866-907-1655. Reach out if you need any assistance. All the best! • QuestionIs there any way to block the fresh air intake to place the AC in recirculating mode? Can you send a picture of the air vent location in the event it needs to be blocked manually?

    Asked by Rob.

    • Answer Hello. We appreciate your interest in this Smart window air conditioner and are happy to assist. The unit does feature a fan only mode, with Low, Medium or High fan speeds. This mode provides air circulation and filtering without actually cooling, and may be what you're looking for. We would not recommend blocking the air vent, as that can reduce the performance of the unit. Pictures of the unit are available on the website, including a side view. We hope this information is helpful for you, and are available if you have further questions or concerns. Best wishes! -Sarah@GEA

  • Questioncan the GE 14000 btu model AHP14LZ be adapted to a slider window

    Asked by donr.

    • Answer If you have a way to cover the gap that will exist above the unit you install, I suppose it could, but the unit is really only made for your standard window that closes vertically. Consider that you'll have a gap as wide as the window unit, and as large as the top of the unit to the top of your window. I believe that the portable windows that sit on the floor in your house are better made for sliding windows.

  • QuestionWhat do you do when it rains with unit? Does manual say to remove it or dies it work.

    Asked by Rain.

    • Answer It is made for a window, so the back end sticks outside. It is weather resistant. If you use the accessories provided, you can seal the window around the unit from the inside. You should take them out over the winter, but I have left mine in year round. You can cover the outside of the unit during the winter months for extra protection from the elements.

    • Answer Either they have updated the listing since you posted this, or you didn't look far enough down in the DETAILED spec listing (not the "Key Specification" one that always show up. Scroll down to Voltage requirement, and it says 115VAC.
