Hi AbbyQ- Thanks for considering GE! "Lock Controls" locks out the control so that pressing the pads does not activate the controls. The burners cannot be locked. The gas control knobs on all our gas cooking products meet GE Appliances and third-party industry safety requirements as push-to-turn knobs. You must push the knob in and turn it to the LITE position. The electric spark igniters automatically light the surface burners, when the control knobs are turned to LITE. You may want to check with Perfectly Safe: 1-800-837-KIDS(5437) (M-F 8:00am - 5:00pm. EST). They offer locks for appliances, range knob covers, etc. Keep in touch! Sue
