Yes, you need an antenna to watch over-the-air broadcasts from local channels. You don't need a Fire TV Stick because this TV has the Fire OS already built-in.

Basically it would be like having 2 firesticks installed in one tv. You can plug ethernet cable right into the back and you have internet access. You can install one of several browsers and stream live tv off of the internet. Also there are numerous apps you can install on these tvs and any movie or tv program is available on demand. If you want your local channels yes an outside antenna will pull in a lot of stations, depending on your location. Keep in mind these tvs and firesticks have unlimited capabilities when used to their full potential. Hope that helped, just a little bit at least.
