A:Answer The silver cap is technically removable, but you've gotta force it. I installed some new hoses in this model of kegerator, and in order to get inside the top column, I had to stick a screwdriver in there and hit it with a rubber mallet to get it to come off.
So the short answer is "No, they don't want you to", but the longer answer is "Yes, you can if you force it". I haven't had any ill effects from prying off the top of the column, either. So if you feel like that's something you wouldn't mind doing, go for it.
