Q: QuestionWill this work with optimum cable?
Asked by SLONAK5.
- A:Answer The CM500 is on the approved modem list for optimum. The "V" in this model is for voice and would only be needed if optimum would be providing home phone service as well.

Q: QuestionIs the Netgear CM500V compatible with Mediacom cable and phone service. Also I plan to use a Netgear N900 router with this modem
Asked by Beachdog.
- A:Answer Yes. Per the guidelines on there website it should work but you will want to call them as soon as you are ready to set it up just to make sure everything goes smoothly. They are going to ask for the MAC address which can be found on the box. Try and follow the directions as to avoid any issues with setup. Remember if you have voice service it wont work until you add the new equipment to your mediacom account. So if and when you do call them use your cell phone. Also make sure they add the correct model since the same model is available without the V or voice option. When I added the cm500v tp my parents account the xfinity rep forgot the "V" which was frustrating to get fixed. Overall it's a great inexpensive device that gets rid of the monthly fee that you have to pay your provider. Good luck and it's really easy to setup so you shouldn't have any issues.

Q: Questionwill this work with Comcast xfinity internet?
Asked by Tresa.
- A:Answer Yes. This is what I purchased. It is a DOCSIS 3.0 (not 3.1) so it won't support the highest Xfinity rate available. (It can support the 600Mbs, not 1000Mbs or 1 Gb) but it is much faster than most any device you can stream with wirelessly. It was well worth the $100 I paid for it and will pay for itself in a year rental fees. My old 5 year Arris modem topped out at 130Mbs. It also is one of the few that support voice - if you use Xfinity for your home phone.

Q: QuestionThis modem does not come with a SSID and password ( atleast the one I bought did not have one ), so how I connect it to my computer after I hook it up, if I am not using a router ?
Asked by Maddy23.
- A:Answer If your PC has a network port, then you could plug the supplied network cable in to Ethernet port. But if your intentions are for more that one computer that are wireless like phone/Tables/Laptops, then you need to purchase a separate wireless router to plug into the Ethernet port.

Q: QuestionWill this modem WiFi capable and will it work with Direct tv satellite and Centurylink internet service provider.?
Asked by Centurylink.
- A:Answer Huh? This is a cable modem. Meaning you ISP have to provide cable service to your modem for internet. Centurylink is DSL uses phoneline. I don't know about Direct TV satellite internet service. Never heard of it. There is Hugo? Satellite internet service, which uses downstream satellite feed but need phone line for upstream connection. DSL uses a modem that is wired via telephone line.

Q: QuestionWould this modem/phone work for the phone service from RCN in chicago? RCN says that I would need to use the existing modem/phone to get phone service because of the EMTA and just get a modem and splitter for internet service.
Asked by hank.
- A:Answer I had a modem/phone combo also. I decided to split them and get a separate modem to get a faster down and upload speed. I checked with my cable company and they said I had to use a splitter also(they gave me the splitter and cable). It was easy to change over and it works great.

Q: QuestionWill this modem work with verizon cable ?
Asked by rena.
- A:Answer The answer is probably no as it specifies that this modem only for Xfinity for Comcast. Most all new internet devices such as modems, cell phones, apple products, etc. are made for just one direct service provider plan. You will have to find a modem that is compatible with Verizon services. Check on Verizon's website. They will give you a list of modems that are compatible with their Services.

Q: Questionis this a dual band router/modem??
Asked by buds.
- A:Answer No. This doesn't not provide wifi - so therefore it isn't single/dual/or tri-band. You would still want another router with it to provide wireless access . I prefer this so I can mix and match what equipment I want. For example I had a very old Asus router. While it worked fine - I decided to add an Asus AI Mesh capable router to it. If you have a single device you can't do that. (Some people prefer that however).
